This may sound strange but one of my top comfort videos on TH-cam is your mythology videos & your bookshelf tour!!! Can’t wait to watch this with a cuppa ✨😌😌
These retelling stacks are EPIC Ashleigh- great collection of stories. 👍📚❤ I must admit that I gravitate more towards mythology retellings as opposed to fairytale retellings.
Am I HAPPY I found you!!!!! Seems like most of the retelling fans I seem to bump into online nowadays just go on and on about the extremely popular stuff, very smutty, or extremely Disneyfied stuff, and I wanna talk about the less popular retellings!! And meet other people who know of other less popular retellings I haven't read / don’t know about!! [Random shriek of either annoyance or excitement, who the fudge knows??]
I just found this video soo not sure if you will still see this, but I absolutely adore folklore and fairytales, it’s my favorite! I love the darker and/or more poetic writing style of the genre… Soo anything by Brom, he is a folklore king… and since you read till we have faces, there is a fairytale retelling of Eros and Psyche called Echo North, one of my favorite fairytales… andI would recommend her into the heartless woods by the same author too.. Becoming Leidah is another great Norwegian folklore that isn’t your typical. Deathless is a beautifully written, Russian folklore… The House of rust is a great African folklore!
Definitely adding some of these to my TBR. I don't read a lot of retellings (mythology or otherwise) since I don't know a lot about the source material, but you have me intrigued!
I spotted my favorite book of all time, Daughter of the Forest! 🥰 And some anticipated releases that will hopefully arrive on my doorstep soon (Sistersong, Ariadne, The Wolf and the Woodsman,...)
i’m in love with alice and wonderland things and my fav retelling is Heartless!! it’s the queen of hearts pov and the telling of the villains side of the story, and its so good!!! cannot sya that enough!! i def cried tho…
The Finnish epic myth called The Kalevala has been an inspiration to many musicians over the past century or so. You might wiki it and youtube some of the results. I recommend Silelius's symphonies. But there are several Metal renderings of the poem as well. And have you ever seen any of the fairytale artwork made by John Bauer for Swedish fairy tale collections? Amazing!
I loved Silver in the Woods ❤️ my all time favorite retelling is Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly which is a Cinderella retelling in the stepsister's point of view, set right after the events of the Cinderella fairytale
@@AFrolicThroughFiction oooh yes...I found her through tracking down retellings of Beauty and the Beast, so started with Bryony and Roses... but went sideways from there into her fantasy books and I loved them, particularly Clockwork Boys and Paladin’s Grace.
I know I'm commenting on a video that's like two-ish years old now and I am new to this channel so hopefully I'm not repeating something already mentioned more recently. But have you read/heard of the book Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust? It's a sapphic Snow White retelling and it's amazing and super underrated!!! Thanks for all of the amazing recs!
Not me just writing down all of these.... I mostly prefer fairytale tellings but I also pick up some Greek Myth retellings. You should try Lost Boy by Christina Henry. Peter pan retelling
LOVE re-tellings so I love that you made this video! the TBR just gets longer and longer 😅
I’m glad you like it! Ahaha they’re hard to resist
