Diving my way around ICELAND - Silfra & ICEBERGS !

- For my 30th Birthday in January this year I went to Iceland to dive the clearest water in the world. A place called Silfra which has up to 100m visibility. Also found the icebergs in the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon which were way too spectacularly not to dive! We also visited the famous black beach near Vik & the Skaftafell glacier which had some ridiculous ice formations. I didn't get a chance to go spearfishing this time but plan to head back and try that. Also massive thanks to Stu K for letting me borrow the GH5 & Nauticam rig for this trip!

I went to silfra too with my own wetsuite and I had a blast ! However I stumbled across the same guy you had as a freediving guide while putting my fins and mask on next to the water and he immediatly told me to get out saying I wasn't allowed to dive unless I had a wildlife national guard authorisation as well as a certified guide with me. I was really disappointed, got out of the water and asked again to another dive instructor who suprisingly told me that I could enter the water discretely if I had the patience to wait until the diving club closed.
That's what I did and had a blast although it's very dangerous to dive alone.
I know what I did is wrong, but these clubs charge you a shitload amount of cash in order to let you dive (~100$).
If I had to do it again the right and legal way, I would go get the wildlife parc authorisation ticket which I heard cost 10 bucks and is being sold in a shed 100m away which allows you to dive in silfra and that's it ! If you are an experienced freediver and respect your surroundings you don't have to pay for those guides, its a scam to ensure that the silfra crack isn't overcrowded by wannabe divers.

I think for 99% of people that go they would need a guide. Not a lot of experienced cold water freedivers getting around but it was pretty expensive like you say. I could see people who are inexperienced getting into a lot of trouble. In saying that my wife & dad had to use kit provided so it didn’t seem so bad. Glad I did it and would recommend it for anyone.

Amazing video Daniel, been in Iceland in 2017 when I was 29, for a complete 2000 km coast tour, and will never forget the landscape and the emotions. I didn't even know somebody is freediving there!

I remember well that my lipps swelled quite abit xD
My diving guide there told me that they were making fun of her after dives there because her lipps swelled abit more than the others, they called her Kardashian or something.

It wasn’t all sunshine and lollipops, I had hotdogs for dinner! Quite the difficult thing to cook on a bbq when it was blowing 50 knots outside. Literally blew over the champagne glasses in the spa!
