I love his little close mouthed laugh/giggle in this! It's as if he's both joking around with you (leaning in towards you like that with that mischievous smile), but also not cause he obviously means it. One of my favorite lines of his for sure...if you could call it that.😂
Astarion's lines here are amusing, but... don't think for a moment that bunnies can't kill you. Real-life history lesson. Napoleon Bonaparte wanted to hunt some rabbits, but the guy he sent to purchase them didn't know the difference between wild rabbits and tame pet rabbits (he purchased 3000). They were somewhat starved by the time they were released for the hunt. Unlike wild rabbits that would flee, these rabbits charged right at Napoleon and his troops injuring many while looking for food, they bit the troops all over! This is why you have jokes about bunnies being terrible creatures in some media, like the man eating rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Buffy the Vampire Slayer ("I have a theory, it could be bunnies"), Re: Zero (The Hunger) and various others. Bunnies are not to be underestimated. 😨
Sounds like fiction (propagated by Napoleon's enemies - he made a bunch of those over the years). People keep rabbits for food in many parts of the world. The bunnies don't typically attempt to fight. They have sharp teeth, but they are still prey animals.
My aunt had a big female rabbit that acted worse than a dog. She used to pounce forward to bite you and made some scary growling sounds. My aunt was scared to feed her, she just opened the door to her enclosure enough to throw in her food.
I sincerely think he was no goody-Santa-Claus magistrate at all. The sphere is corrupt through and through almost in any country and that's why I love the EA version of his lore, that he really was quite a devil's advocate, taking bribes, making and using connections and trying to please the higher authorities. It just makes him a real living being and his two endings, about coming back to greater power or choosing a path of redemtion, even more fulfilling :)

You have your magistrate who are sticklers for the rules, then you have those who couldn’t care less about them. Who knows which one Astarion was? I like that Larian leaves that up for the viewers and players to decide.

I don't know, why they cut it, but they cut a lot of things (like Kirlach/Dammon romance, possibility to take Ketherick Thorm as a companion, a werewolf companion, maps of Hells, Candlekeep and upper city).
this is why i feel like he and Gale would be either the most toxic relationship ever or fantastic for each other. power hungry as fuck. either they help each other see they don't need that, or they make each other worse. (god Gale and Ascended Astarion the number one toxic powercouple lmao.) between the sarcasm and quips, and the need for power, i swear the reason Astarion seems to dislike Gale (at least at first), is because he's reminded of himself. and he obviously doesn't entirely like himself.
I know spawn astarion is the better ending for his character especially with ending the cycle of abuse, however i fully support giving this man infinite power
One doesn't need to be kind to pet animals. Think of all the villains in media who are shown to have a soft spot for their pets. On a more serious note, this is a good example of what I meant when I said the spawn route moved a little too fast with changing his character into a somewhat better person. I could believe it after the six month timeskip in the epilogue but immediately after losing/giving up everything he hoped to gain from the ritual (being alive again with a beating heart, the lusts and apptites of man returned to him, being able to walk in the sun without a tadpole, all the cool.powers that come with being a vampire lord) is a bit unbelievable. There are still a lot of threats to his life out there in both routes. For example, should Astarion run afoul of monster hunters that don't know him and are unwavering in their beliefs that all vampires are abominable creatures that should be destroyed find out what he is, even that small window of true freedom in the spawn path will be closed again as he would be forced to evade persistant enemies. At least as a vampire lord he would be able to pretend to be normal better along with having minions to help him out. If romanced, he would have his lover to aid him as well as both spawn and lord.

I mean. He's kinda both of those descriptions, in different ways. He loves killing and power, yeah, but the way he treats his loved ones is kind-hearted and righteous. Maybe not so much humble considering his take away was "I'm already powerful as fuck" though lmao.
I mean nobody says he's a goody two shoes, hell he's literally racist. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't get to experience some form of positive character development
Well, he's a quite layered deep character, and corresponds a lot to SA victims profile, balancing between unleashing the hell on anyone who's an easy target and breaking the cycle of violence by licking his own wounds and learning at least a tiny bit of compassion. His personal development depends so much on how compassionate Tav to him. Also some tiniest details, like, him being flirty, playful and not that serious are good portrayal of coping mechanisms as well as survival. I've seen a lot of similar features in some friends of mine who used to be involved with s*x-work. They're not evil, they didn't see any better at all and they don't to full extent believe that kindness exist. Actually I think if Larian added another layer of self-harm and compulsive behaviours beyond his control, it would be almost full depiction of SA and slavery survivor. But Astarion is already perfect as he is.
and whats great is this remains true in his good ending where he doesn't ascend, he is still the one who obliterates cazador. or rather he was always strong enough, he just needed a little nudge in the right direction
He still needed the player's help to get that far since without them he would be captured/killed and used in the ritual. That's the main reason I plan to have him in my party in each playthrough I do. Call me silly but I can't bear to have my favorite character face that terrible end.
This whole conversation was all well done by Neil Newbon! Certainly, a deep Astarion character. Not to mention, the way the animators made him look at Tav in this scene. Transfixing! Then, you as Tav start to worry about where Astarion is taking these options. 🤔 Could we persuade this lovely man not to grasp that corruption? I think we can, with confidence! ❤😊😊😊👍👍👍

I've seen so many Astarion fans say "he's not evil, he's Traumatized" but evil people can be Traumatized all the same & he understands & accepts that he's not a good person because he doesn't want to be (which is kind of based 😂). I've found it immensely difficult to have him on my team during a good playthrough because he doesn't approve of anything good you do (at least, in act 1 & 2) unless for example you save Karlach from Wyll or Minthara from the Absolute.
There is another version of the last line. He says "Maybe some coffins too" and then laughs in a cliché nerdy way 😂 I have never seen any video of it so far, but I saw it in my own playthrough
I love how everyone wants to pretend that spawn is innocent and not power hungry like his ascension form , when this here is proof that he is no matter what
@@ladylunara5 You can still be a good influence on Astarion to the point that he changes these views later on, however - much like with Shadowheart in regards to Shar, and Lae'zel with Vlaakith. By the end, he can go from saying, "I can be better than him - more powerful than he ever was!" to saying, "You're right... I CAN be better than him... than this." And he can make the decision to change for the better. It all really depends on how you influence the characters through your gameplay.
Lol - hang on... but that is a clip not after defeating Cazador, but quite a way BEFORE, when he's still growing and changing and his path is uncertain. Like... what's the point of "ha, spawn is the same as AA!" by bringing up a moment from the middle of the story???

He is also still very much a murder husband even as spawn he just is carefully selective in who he kills. people don't care as long as you kill the right people or something like that he says.

This is a scene from a period when his fate was undecided and both his good and bad side were bundled together. And this is a moment in story where we see his AA side. Also - not being a "perfect little boy scout" doesn't mean that he still isn't leagues better than AA. Because at least in spawn ending (and that dialogue comes from ending when he's unromanced) he chooses to kill the bad guys when they're a threat to good people - you know: people like Cazador. Or Gortash. Or people we ourselves murder during the campaign, even with goody-two-shoes Tavs. AA, on the other hand, will murder anyone who stands on his path to ultimate domination - good or bad; it doesn't matter. There's a significant difference here.

Познаю инглиш с Астарионом. Играя с русскими субтитрами я прежде не замечала жирной отсылки Астариона к своему прошлому, что ГГ говорит "Power corrupts" - сила развращает. А Астарион отвечает "a litle corruption sounds fun" немного коррупции - звучит хорошо. А Стари был коррумпированным судьей))) А коррупция на инглише это - "развращение" Во теперь и думай в каком плане он был "коррумпированным"😄
Он ещё и как декадант был описан🤔 помню карточки с персонажами были, с ним была «astarion, the decadent», а уж учитывая, каким течением из 18 века он вдохновлен, то видимо на все и сразу отсылка 😭 кудааааа они там повернули, что из него сделали жертву со стертым прошлом
Нет, это версия с ea, о том, что он был коррумпированным судьей. Теперь это убрали из его истории. Кроме того, corrupt judge звучит кривовато, скорее скажут crooked judge или corrupt court.

Я уже дошла до замка казадора, но пока зависла в спальне Рафика, в раздумьях, как вообще пройти его, и до казадора всё никак не доберусь 😂
Более того, так и не могу решить, возвышать или нет.. Возможно, это будет единственный выбор в игре, который я всё-таки полностью доверю кубику, без ожиданий "хоть бы выпало столько-то"
П.с. Хотя это не до казадора ли вообще, я тут подумала. Меня смутило про "ходить под солнцем", но это ему и личинка позволяет. А тут, похоже, это после разговора с Рафиком или с вампирами.. Тк из начала его реплик следует, что Казадора он ещё не убил. Надо сохранения пошерстить.

@@kkotova1 да про власть я знаю, просто почему-то я тот разговор помню только как "он пустил немного моей крови, а я всю его выпил" и "кажется это был медведь" и всё. А про казадора реплик совсем не помню(((

Познаю инглиш с Астарионом. Играя с русскими субтитрами я прежде не замечала жирной отсылки Астариона к своему прошлому, что ГГ говорит "Power corrupts" - сила развращает. А Астарион отвечает "a litle corruption sounds fun" немного коррупции - звучит хорошо. А Стари был коррумпированным судьей))) А коррупция на инглише это - "развращение" Во теперь и думай в каком плане он был "коррумпированным"😄

Он ещё и как декадант был описан🤔 помню карточки с персонажами были, с ним была «astarion, the decadent», а уж учитывая, каким течением из 18 века он вдохновлен, то видимо на все и сразу отсылка 😭 кудааааа они там повернули, что из него сделали жертву со стертым прошлом
Нет, это версия с ea, о том, что он был коррумпированным судьей. Теперь это убрали из его истории.
Кроме того, corrupt judge звучит кривовато, скорее скажут crooked judge или corrupt court.
