പണ്ട് ബ്രഹ്മാവിനെ സ്വാധീനിച്ച് അസുരസഹോദരങ്ങളായ ചന്തനും മുണ്ടനും ഒരു വരം ലഭിച്ചു .ആണിനും പെണ്ണിനും രണ്ടുപേരെയും കൊല്ലാന് കഴിയ്ല്ല എന്നാണ് വരം .അതിനു ശേഷം അവർ നാട്ടുകാരെ ഉപദ്രപിക്കാന് തുടങ്ങി .പ്രശ്നം വീണ്ടും ബ്രഹ്മാന്പടി എത്തി.ആണെന്നോ പെണ്ണെന്നോ തിരിച്ചറിയാന് കഴിയാത്ത മഹാദേവി പ്രശ്നം ഏറ്റെടുത്തു.ചന്തനും മുണ്ടനും മുട്ടു മടക്കി.ഗത്യന്തരമില്ലാതെ വന്നപ്പോള് രണ്ടുപേരും കൈതയുടെ വേഷത്തില് ഒളിച്ചിരിപ്പായി .മഹാദേവി കൈതവരമ്പിലൂടെ നടക്കുന്നു. നല്ല കാറ്റ് .രണ്ടു കൈതക്ക് കാറ്റില് ഇളകാതെ നല്ക്കുന്നു .മഹാദേവിക്കു ബോധ്യമായി, അത് ചന്തനും മുണ്ടനും തന്നെ .മഹാദേവി വാൾ വീശി രണ്ടുപേരെയും കൊന്നു .ഇതാണത്രേ കൈതച്ചാമുണ്ടി .ചാമുണ്ടി ഉറഞ്ഞു തുള്ളി കൈത അറുത്തെടുത്തു വരുന്നതാണ് പ്രധാനം.പോകുന്നതുപോലെയല്ല തിരുച്ചുവരവ് .ശരീരത്തില് ചോരമയമുണ്ടാക്ണമല്ല .പോകുമ്പോള് ഒരു കോഴിയേയും കരുതിയിട്ടുണ്ടാകും .കോഴിയെ കടിച്ചു കീറി ശരീരമാസകലം ചോരപുണ്ടാണ് തിരിച്ചുലരവ്.

@Informatics ok everybody's believes are different, i didn't get inspired by the movie... even be4 i watched the movie i knew about this ritual which was practiced in manglore city since i was a kid... if u have any questions regarding ur future which u ask during the kola, trust me or not the answers which u get seek from there becomes true mostly all the tym when ur future approaches... even i didn't believe in all these i thought it was all coincidence and superstitious but later when i got my answers all the tym i started believing in it... "again" believes differ from person to person.

I am from Himachal. After watching this movie I can easily relate it with our culture because in old Himachal there is rituals to carry deo(means devta) on their shoulders and a gur (a person whom devta chosen)to answer the questions Sometimes devta becomes unhappy with the locals and even govt for misusing jungle and mountains
It's in every part of India, but in different form, traditions. In my region its Gramadevta function.
In Odisha we have Debta (Devta/deo/deha) and same rituals also happens here. and the person that posses the Debta is known as Sira. we celebrate Debta Puja in every Dusshera and Chaitra Parba(basically during the month of april)

ഇത് കൈത ചാമുണ്ഡി എന്ന തെയ്യം ആണ്. ചന്തനും മുണ്ടനും എന്ന അസുരന്മാരെ വധിച്ച മഹാദേവിയാണ് ഈ തെയ്യം. രൗദ്ര ഭാവത്തിൽ ആണ് ഈ തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടുന്നത്. അസുരന്മാരെ വധിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ പ്രതീകമായാണ് കൈത ചെടി വെട്ടുന്നത്. കൈത ചെടി വെട്ടാൻ പോകുമ്പോൾ കൂടെ കുറേ പേർ അകമ്പടിയായി പോകാറുണ്ട്. ആ സമയം ആരും തെയ്യത്തിന്റെ അടുത്തേക്ക് പോകരുത് എന്ന്‌ പറയാറുണ്ട്. അടുത്തേക് പോകുന്നവരുടെ തെയ്യം തന്നെ ദൂരേക്ക്‌ പോകാൻ പറയും. ആരെയും ഉപദ്രവിക്കാറൊന്നുമില്ല :)
