If you started watch UFC becouse of Connor, you are not a casual at all. I started watch on Anderson Silva era, Silva on that time here on Brasil was like 2016 Mcgregor
Believe it or not (you might believe it), but by virtue of me being a massive pro wrestling fan, CM Punk actually got me into MMA. Well not HIM necessarily, but rather his fight card. I was interested in seeing him fight and ended up watching a significant chunk of the ppv where he fought Mike Jackson or whatever. Then eventually, I got a random recommendation of McGregor v Diaz 1 on TH-cam and never looked back
I've been watching since 2006 at age 15. I would say the biggest change to the UFC as an organization has been the increased depth of the divisions. Fighters at the top are obviously getting better, but I would say a lot of ranked guys welterweight and up in 2012 would still be ranked in today's UFC (probably not far back as 2010 though).
Have been waiting for this type of video for years and have had conversations with people about which era was the best for a while. The Golden era of the UFC was what you branded as the Hardcore era 2007-2010 although add a couple years to it, 2007-2014ish. You hit the nail on the head with GSP destroying the welterweight weight division, Silva dominating the middle weight, the talk of their super fight, ufc 100, WEC roster entering the UFC etc. One thing that needed to be added is during this era, was using every aspect of martial arts rightfully so, MMA was complete. We saw every fighter during this era bring out every aspect of what makes mma, mma and not just a single aspect. This era was the absolute best

2008 to about mid 2013 is peak UFC. Before the Rousey/McGregor Era came and made the sport feel all corporate and attracted casuals that want unwanted or unnecessary drama just to make a fight feel important This era still had an underground fight club type of vibe and you had badasses like Rampage, Cain, Brock, Silva, GSP, Aldo, JDS, Shogun, Hendo etc. Those guys meant business and there was little to no trash talk because it wasn’t needed. If you were the best you would prove it in the octagon. I miss that era so much
There was always trash taking in the sport and when we were long and dead there will be trash talking. And a sport like this will have bad ass fighters whether they are the wrong silent type or load and abrasive

As a hardcore fan, I say that because GSP, Brock, and Ronda Rousey were PPV stars, the golden age was between 2011-2019.That was the golden age because the casuals in the west were the most engaged with the sport during this time period. So many people who no longer watch it today watched some events during that period and knew about Khabib, Ronda, Brock, GSP, Diaz bros, and Masvidal. So many casuals knew about these guys, but they unfortunately don't care anymore.
Early 2000s was the best, the vibe was just different and infectious. I miss Liddell being a bogeyman and he’s the first fighter that unanimously every fan loved. I miss TUF back when it actually mattered and gave good insight into the fighters personalities and training. Also I miss some of the freaks that are largely forgotten like Gabriel Gonzaga, Shane Carwin and Matt Mitrione

Silva, Aldo and ol boi that lost the belt to dillashaw was a good era too. I can’t think of his name but he was the champ for a minute and had a huge fall from grace
Wanderlei wasnt a star in the ufc when you said he was. He was in Pride during that time destroying everyone. He had one fight in the ufc during the time you said and he got demolished by TRTitor Belfort and left
Unpopular take but I don’t it’s even happened yet, mma is still a very new sport for the golden age to have happened it would have been an early peak for a sport that’s going to last so it’s either going to start to die out, or barely even reached its start, and with mainstream attention only rising and boxing dying off relatively.
