As soon as I saw the video about Michael Alig being a murderer, I immediately thought, "I bet Nelson had footage of him in his vlog," and he ends up being the birthday boy in this video. Unreal. Well, at least Nelson didn't live to see what became of his friend or the death of the Club Kid scene. Rest in Peace to Angel Melendez.

World of Wonder also had access to the videos at one time too, but I think they are now archived in the NYU library like you said. And Retro room is a pretty good source for facts so if he said it I wouldn't doubt they are there.

This one offers a great insight into Alig's character. Both the awkward situation with the room and him running around telling everyone how empty Mars is. Everyone who wasn't there sure as hell wasn't at your party Michael.

Go back and watch the Geraldo videos with all the club kids, it was obvious that Michael Musto was nothing like the rest of the them, and was usually the only one who could form a complete sentence. I think him and Nelson were good friends, but obviously Nelson wasn't outrageous like the club kids either.

He was always needing to be the center of attention, even when he was showing off the new room he designed. Heaven forbid the room get all the attention, Michael is there... he should be getting the attention: enter the "all eyes on me" comment of "you don't like the room", "It's beautiful.", "Yeah, whatever." ALL EYES ON ME!

In any big city-- it was VERY common to see a "mixed bag" of people w/ different careers ( there was ALWAYS one guy / girl that was ALWAYS unemployed and looking, as well as "boring office cube jobs" . I knew people that were doormen in apartment buildings , people that worked in the TV and Movie costume industry, and people who worked for United Cerebal Palsy . So yeah- REAL mixed bag. The 80s were very much about individualism, greed, success at any price, and judging by appearance rather than merit or values. It wasn't just these people. Read Bret Easton Ellis or watch 80s films. It was a wonderful time to be a child which I was but a cutthroat time in business.
