Random dude Wow you really can't say anything without offending or triggering anyone in 2017 it seems like.. I am not the type of person to always change his diet and that was a big move of mine personally. I eat a ton of fruits, veggies and legumes and I do feel better (it's just logic) as of right now, I don't know why you can't see the positive in this as you are vegan too.. Anyways, I don't care what you think to be honest.

Almost 3 months weed free too :) I feel great, but of course, to each there own. He said it perfectly, and I feel the exact same way: It used to serve me, (and i'll always appreciate those times, look back in fondness) but it no longer serves me!

I was on the keto diet and never was comfortable with letting fruit out of the diet. Then I found your channel and changed to a vegan diet. It feels so natural now. I never struggled with animal products, but I’m trying to reduce the amount of procced food like cookies.

I've been vegan for 3 years now and last summer I tried the fruitarian lifestyle for 60 days and WOW you feel amazing! I kept training very hard while keeping my calorie intake from 3000 to 4000 calories per day in order to keep packing muscle. I grew muscle and burnt fat like crazy! Oranges, watermelon, bananas and avocados was all I ate during the 60 days. I now returned to a whole food vegan lifestyle since here In Montreal, Canada it is definitely hard to have great quality fruits during the winter... I feel amazingly alive on this lifestyle as well and my body is thankful everyday for this shift I made 3 years back :)
Keep up the divine work Derek!
    Much love

    Hey Derek (:
For the Fruitarian Lifestyle: I was eating Raw till 4 for a year or so and I can totally subscribe to what you say:
Yes, I was feeling good, had lots of energy and I got good progress at my sport BUT damn, this lifestyle was so extravagant in everyday life it's not even funny!! Buying all this fruits all the time, keeping an eye that you never run out of ripe ones, calling friends a week before that they have to buy a box of bananas (!!!) when I want to stay there for a weekend - and last but not least: being so far away from society that even all my vegan friends thought I am kinda crazy^^
So long story short: I dropped it and changed back to a "normal" vegan diet (means mostly whole foods and some vegan fastfood here and there).
But the funny thing is when you come back from a fruitarian lifestyle, the "normal" vegan lifestyle feels like the most easiest thing on earth :D

i tried Fruitarian was far too hungry i think it's hard to get in the calories. Also smoked pot for the last 14 years on and off having breaks. When i was eating bad and unaware with cannabis combined i binged on rubbish and had a negative out look on life. Now i eat good and am aware of nutrition still smoke but the anxiety is gone and i have a positive out look on life. also the weed helps me lock into focus during a work out then a muscle relaxant after, i love it. Glad you covered it tbh and i think i will move away from it one day again.

I find it hard to believe that claim how whole foods vegan diet is bad for pregnancy... I’m not even vegan., are they saying consuming alcohol (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome), meats, mcdonald’s, poison is good then? lol. Maybe they know you’re doing the right thing!!! I feel like it’s not logical to say whole foods vegan diet is bad for pregnancy. You get protein, carbs, fiber, calcium, veggies.. so it’s weird :)

I'm not vegan, (might try some day soon) but yeah, that makes sense. What does meat contain that's so special? Well as far as I know, it has a complete amino acid profile. So what we DO need is: Amino acids, essential vitamins, minerals, fibre and our macros (protein, carbs, fat).
From what I'm starting to understand, there are several plants that have the full profile (spirulina, Hemp). I'm getting more and more curious by the day, to try it out. If it really makes a difference, i'll stick to it!

+Simnett Nutrition The other day I talked to someone who recently went vegan. I told her what I wish I did when I first went vegan 13 and a 1/2 yrs ago (and 4yrs vegetarian before that). First I wish I went straight to vegan, then I wish I would have been eating less process stuff back then. And eat more like I try to now, whole foods with no oil..like you. I told her about your channel, she subscribed right then and there, lol. Seriously one of the best vegan channels. much 💜 and ✌ everyone.

I am not a vegetarian, vegan or any label. I just eat what my body is asking for (usually is mostly vegan) and I eat slowly enough and mindfully enough to know if what I am eating isn't "jiving" - because I am human and sometimes I am so hungry that I would eat anything! I LOVE your videos as you are so fun to listen to. I love that you are so easy-going about people's choices and just sharing from your perspective without being preachy. Congrats on all your awesome accomplishments (book, etc..!).

I've been eating a fruitarian diet since 2010. It's definitely a 180 paradigm shift from the standard american lifestyle. Unlike you, I don't desire to assimilate with society at large and may even use modern society as a barometer or what NOT to do! haha. But really, anything is as hard or as easy as you make. Where there is desire, education, and motivation there is a very clear way. My passion is growing the best food I can as well as seeking out the highest vibration alive juicy fresh fruits and veg. Lots of dark left greens and spouts are also a key component when fruits aren't at their peak season. I have found my physical and mental energy/stamina/clarity ever improving and certainly the best it has been in my whole life. (at 30 years old now) I don't think any particular diet is for anyone but I always speak the good word gospel of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole plant foods... hallelujah! :)

I'm always tweaking it and trying out new things to see what works best for me, but so far it's been a great decision to make the switch. Just thought I'd say how much i enjoyed watching your video! Very informative!!!!! longest I tried was 2 weeks fully fruitarian. I was trying a deep cleanse that was strickly just berries and melons, by week 2 I was so unhappy and unsatisfied and I felt really sick. Really didn't understand how anyone could go strickly raw for a period of time until I incorporated raw greens and salads back into my diet. It's hard eating strickly fruit on a raw diet and greens are actually super important!!

Ive been vegan for 17 years, raw for about 10 of them primarily fruit based but I also would recommend people eat leafy green vegetables every single day and varied greens. But I’m vegan for ethical reasons (obv) so I don’t really talk about raw too much. When I go out to eat I get salads w whatever raw fruit and veg they have. No social problems at all. People admire it.

I discovered you about two weeks ago after reading “The China Study” by Dr. T Colin Campbell that inspired me to change my life. I didn’t know where to start, and your videos have really helped me! I also checked out a ton of plant based -whole food books for recipes, but your way of eating is easier. These books/recipes call for a lot of things I don’t have such as nutritional yeast, and different kinds of flours. I’m a mom with two teenagers and trying to feed a family and change is the most difficult. I’d like them to easily get on board to, it’s been a challenge. Anyways, keep up the good work! You have helped me so much as I try to change my life. God Bless!

I like these q&as. It's like visiting with you. You seem so honest, intelligent, and thoughtful. The concept of "cheat" meals and days; everything you say is true. It sets back the palate changing, and the transition away from salt, sugar, and processed food and animal products if the person is going plant based for health instead of vegan for the animals.
That being said if someone is really craving something unhealthy and nothing satisfies I think it's better to eat a small portion of the forbidden than give up the whole thing (which many do).
Often when a newbie does that they are surprised that their treat is ickier than they remember,
So no scheduled cheat meals but a slip now and then and back on track is a realistic approach.
Love you and Crystal. Happy holidays. If you celebrate. And that leads me to a question I can't remember you talking about. Do you follow any spiritual belief or practice?

  • @GeneMoves
    @GeneMoves 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Derek, awesome vid, so I've been vegan for a year and a half, but these past few weeks, I made a shift to become about 80-90% raw, with at least a week worth of days totally raw, mostly fruit based (fruitarian and Low fat), which focuses on the 80-10-10 macros, and I find that eating fruit in the quantity I need to train one or two times a day really made my senses sharper, my hormones in balance, my mood constantly happy, much more focused, more aware of other people's emotions and intentions, and actually much more durable, flexible and stronger in the gym for calisthenics, lifting, and on my parkour runs/trail runs. I'm curious to see someone be on these macros as a vegan without the fruit so I've been having somewhat of a daytime fruitarian diet with grains, potatoes or other carbs in the evening, with little adverse affects. I did find oils mixed with cooked grains and veggies messed me up digestively when I added them back in this mostly- fruitarian diet. Physiologically, it makes sense we need this lower ratio of proteins or fats because carbs are by far the most efficient fuel source for intense and endurance training exercise. With too few carbohydrates, we break down more muscle than we would with plenty of carbs fueling our activity. The question of which carbs are most efficient remains, but from this experience, I believe it is the fruit sugar (of course eaten with the whole fruit). It is hard to buy and eat the quantity of the high water content fruits Arnstein proposes as best for the athlete (especially in cold-winter areas like NJ where I am), which are the best for hydration and made me feel best, but I'm stubborn and I want to eat the bulk of my calories from fruits, so I'll be eating lots of bananas for now. Have you ever tried a high carb low fat diet in any form? I'm curious to see what it would be like for a fellow calisthenics athlete, thanks :) - @grantbigcat on instagram

I have been fruitarian for 9 months before...now I just eat 90% raw from about April-September/October. I know its definitely possible to maintain a raw diet during the cold months but for my body, there isn't enough variety and I crave warmer foods...and I mean, right now my diet is probably pretty much raw til 4. I went to the Woodstock Fruit Festival this past August...I can't recommend it enough. Tons of different fruits available 24/7, inspirational talks by raw foodists including Mike Arnstein, activities and swimming!

Hey Derek! You might wanna try the Indian 'Dal' with rice if u want to. Its basically something like a vegetable soup with lentils and it tastes great in the winter, as like u said it feels good to eat cooked food in the season. Definitely try it out and I want to hear your views on that. Thank you!

It would be amazing to me if someone faulted you for smoking weed in the past.
What I love about your channel is that it never uses shame or pressure, or guilt. In short, you are a good man. You promote what science now recognizes as the healthiest diet possible, and you do so in a constructive and inspiring way.
Keep them coming! I find your videos do a credit to veganism.

I’m currently doing a 20 day raw vegan diet. I will say I feel pretty good. I’m fuller longer and eat less. It’s the first time I feel confident I won’t get sick being around everyone at work that have gotten sick. But to adopt a raw vegan lifestyle??? Hmmm, it’s not for me but, I did enjoy it.

    Hi Derek.
I have 3 questions for you. The first one is whether or not meal preping for 2 or 3 days ahead is more convenient than making your meals right away and any tips you can give. Second one is about your food staples and what we should always have in stock. Thirdly i am interested in intermittent fasting and want to know more about the way you fast.
P.S. No worries if you can't pronounce my name right.. Bulgarian is hard. :D

I am currently fruitarian, have been for the past 6 months. I feel much more satisfied, the only downside is losing muscle mass. (Very low protein, most fruitarians will nit be abke to get as big as with more protein.) I became vegan due to health purposes. Ive experience many symptoms of health that i wasnt getting in a vegan diet.

My wife and I were influence by a book called '80/10/10' by Dr Douglas N. Graham which is focused around a mainly fruit diet with the inclusion of leafy greens and some other vegetables while getting a ratio of 80% carbs 10% protein and 10% fats, which is fairly easy to get when consuming majority fruits. It's argued in the book that this ratio is optimal for fueling cells and body as well as going on the say humans are by design 'Frugivorous'.
I can't say I follow it to the letter but fruit makes up the majority of my diet now and I have managed to put on a fair amount of muscle while staying fairly lean in the last 6 months since trying it, I also have a lot more energy than previous versions of our plant based diet. My two cents anyway :)

I naturally prefer a Whole Foods, plant based diet but have frequently been pulled off track in the quest to build more muscle with protein supplements and meat. You have encouraged me to never look back again and to just enjoy the process of building my calisthenics and eating more simply. I feel better about this world knowing you are out there promoting the full package of health and humanity. FYI, I found you through Plant Pure Nation documentary and then through the Diary of a Fat Man. Have you considered facilitating a plant pure nation pod in your area? Do you know anyone who has?

As a smoker, I am the kind of person who gets high and gets productive (I only smoke sativa dominant strains). I work out or clean or write or paint or some other creative or productive thing. I don't rely on it how I used to for mental health, and I'm not saying anyone should be dependent on it, but it got me through really rough times while I figured out how to cope with life on my own. Now I just partake a few times a week for the fun/inspiration/motivation it gives me. My only complaint is that I have to smoke it. I have tried edibles and as you said, it makes me feel unproductive and lazy. And vaping just isn't the same. Maybe one day I will cut it out so I'm not adding smoke to my lungs. But as far as how it affects me mentally...it's fun and I believe beneficial to my life haha
I know many people who don't get the same affect from weed that I do, though. I'd say a good majority of the smokers I know smoke and then sit on the couch in a daze for a bit. If that was my reaction, I def wouldn't smoke anymore.
Just thought I'd put in a little of my experience on the topic :)

It's hard man. I totally understand. Took me a few tries and many years. I found telling people what I was (wasn't) doing helped me be accountable. Owning up to my problem with it and explaining where I wanted to be. I still think about it, but I know that it won't any value to my life at this point. Everything is just as good sober. Best of luck brother.
