This was a school project where I made a montage of the best pitchers in baseball throwing curveballs. I do not own any of the footage or any of the music.
Great video. Facing a 90 mph fastball followed by a 65-75 mph curve is the toughest thing in sports to do. If you've ever played at a high level, you know why I say that.
Out of every pitcher on here, Justin Verlanders for some reason just looked the most precise, like , the Cather will put the glove where he wants it and justin does it, it truly is a thing of beauty
One thing I have learned is that as you progress through the levels of baseball it is less about the "big break" but more of the deception and the ability to make a pitch look and see like a fastball from delivery to release point. Your ball could break 2 feet or 4 inches in the majors, if you throw it properly the movement will do its work but the hitter will be thrown off by timing and balance. Through the younger levels of baseball though you see kids injuring their arms to get these massive Klayton Kershaw like breaks by derailing their mechanics and arm action. This video was fun to watch though, all of these guys shown have plus fastballs and throw their curveballs hard as well with the exception of a little more occasional slower bloopy curve by Kershaw or the Yu Darvish 60mph curve/ephus.
+Ashton Fronsoe I know the difference between a slider and curve. I was just discussing in general, not many people can really throw a curve like Kershaw's and at that level it is less about the movement and more about the deception of timing. Then with some of the wipeout sliders it's the same effect but many kids try too hard to get big breaks on either pitch and often they are doing it at the cost of healthy arm mechanics...
It's a damned shame that MLB doesn't encourage more camera angles from behind the catcher where the movement of the ball can really be appreciated. During the 60's and 70's that's where most camera views were shown from.
Kerhsaw has the best curve I've ever seen. IN the 1970's and 1980's you had guys like Bert Blyleven, Nolan Ryan(yes a blistering curve) and Mike Witt who had incredible curves . I also remember Greg Harris having a great one too
I always wonder how can people tell what type of pitches are being thrown soon as it leaves the pitchers hand? I guess it's experience. I thought Kershaw was throwing a slurve.
+Adam Franklin definitely not defiantly. And only a couple of them were curves. The first one was a curve. Most of the others were sliders. You can tell by the break but also the speed. Anything in the upper 80's is a slider. They were all around 86 miles per hour.
Seeing this on the screen doesn’t do it justice, 2014 Early in the season YovAni Gallardo pitched in Fenway vs The Red Sox and I was sitting 3rd row behind home plate, He wasn’t dominant as far as strikeout but my god his breaking stuff was really going that day. The bite his deuce had was incredible, right handed batters didn’t stand a chance that day, his pitches would start belly button high and drop into the dirt. He prolly got 20 ground outs that day, allowed no runs and got the win. I went home and traded for him in both my fantasy leagues.
I used to have a pretty nice curve in sixth grade little league when baseball was all about fun but watching this shit amazes me especially Kershaw's first pitch
I've played baseball until high school ended but I'm not a pitcher . But I know this will sound kinda dumb but what is the difference between a curve and a change up ? If they both go down ? Also the difference between a sinker and a splitter ?
Watch the hitter at 0:32 seconds... After he swings and misses, he turns and looks at the catcher to confirm that the ball didn't just disappear into thin air. The pitcher pulled some black magic.
It's still a strike, unless the batter was on 2 strikes, in which he wasn't. If you have 2 strikes and its another one but the catcher drops it, you can try and run to first base but if you get tagged or the ball gets to first you're out
Im a football fan and ex player but im much more afraid of baseball because of the curve ball! Much respect to all the batters who fearlessly stand in the box against these great pitchers!
im not the biggest baseball fan, but i have trouble identifying different pitches while watching the games. the curves looks like a slider imo... the ball seems to drop down more than "curves"
Most of the pitches looked like they sank down when they got close to the plate, instead of curved left or right. One that curves from right to left, is called a what?
+Crafted YT Second pitcher was using a sweeping curve (rapid drop with horizontal movement) Some of Cain's were changeups As I'm typing this, a right-hander threw a pitch that dropped and curved back to his throwing side (right), which is a Circle-Changeup The author of this video should have just said the video was filled with breaking balls, and not curveballs
Depends on whether its a right-hander or southpaw pitching. Aright-hander can direct the pitch from right to left by throwinga curve ball, a cutter fast ball, or a slider. A southpaw throws a screw-ball or tailing fastball to move the ball from right to left.
+Rob Gronkowski #Yeet #GronkSpike A curveball typically breaks top to bottom (the 12-6 curve got its name because it breaks as if it were going from the 12 o clock position to the 6 o clock position), a slider breaks away from the point of release, so it would move to the left coming out of a right handed pitcher's hand and vice versa. Breaking ball is just a general term for any off speed pitch (slider, curveball, sinker, etc.)
Adam wainwright was throwing all curveballs and he doesn't have a slider. Clayton Kershaw was mostly throwing sliders, fastballs, and changups In this video.
No Kerry Wood ? His curveball in his 20 strike out game was nuts. Also Mike Mussina deserves alot more credit when it comes to curveballs. According to David Ortiz prime Mike Mussina was the toughest pitcher he faced because he had a number of curves and breaking pitches that all broke slightly differently. Knuckle curves and the like. Took the guessing many hitters resort to in order to hit a really good curveball to a whole other level of difficulty. El Duque probably deserves a mention as well
Awesome vid - I love to see MLB hitters baffled and overmatched 🤓 There's a bunch of Change-ups in there though - still, incredible vid! Thx for posting!
Best curve was from darvish. A lot of sinkers, forkballs and sliders in this montage too. All breaking balls but definitely different than the curve ball.
push mute now before it's too late...they used to call a guy's curveball 'Uncle Charlie'. Dwight Gooden in 86 and 87 had one so good, they used to refer to it as 'Lord Charles'...pretty cool
Im a softball player(pitcher)but i dont know how to throw curveball but the funfact is when u are in the batter box and the pitcher throw a curve ball u as the batter will though that the ball will come to you and hit you but no its not it will go to the strike zone or the ball will go to the other way thats why it isnt easy to bat the curve ball
the last 2 pitchers to throw very good 12-6 curves in this game that I've witnessed are Tommy Hunter of Baltimore and Colby Lewis of Texas Rangers. Their curves are 73-76mph and go way up (18"-24" break) and down as much as 4ft when buried. Colby Lewis's curve looks like a Knuckleball without the erratic direction.
Most of Kershaw's pitches in this video didn't even look like his curveball? That pitch, especially from him, is easy to distinguish. A lot of the pitches shown after Kershaw's segment also weren't curveballs, otherwise the video was still cool to watch.
The way to judge if a pitcher has a great curve ball is watching him freeze the hitter. Another way is to watch a great hitter look bad with a weak swing. Sandy Koufax was great at this.
Sounds like Kershaw. Jose Fernandez has developed a curve this year that is constantly locking hitters up or making them look like high schoolers. That's part of why those 2 guys are the 2 best strikeout pitchers in baseball this year. Jose throwing that 98 MPH heat, then an 80 MPH curve has just been killer on hitters this year.
Kershaw's pitch reptaraire is Four-seam fastball, two-seam fastball, change-up from the four-seam to two-seam like a sinker... 12-6 curveball and slider... Kershaw doesn't have a standard curveball. He has a 12-6 curveball or AKA a frontdoor/backdoor curveball.
They dont look like they curve much to me. Maybe curve down. I thought one that dropped down would be called a sinker, and a curve ball would curve left or right. About the only pitch i know is the fastball. Well, I guess it goes fast over the plate, but hell, that may not be right either.
Great video. Facing a 90 mph fastball followed by a 65-75 mph curve is the toughest thing in sports to do. If you've ever played at a high level, you know why I say that.
Whoa doctor...
🧢
Out of every pitcher on here, Justin Verlanders for some reason just looked the most precise, like , the Cather will put the glove where he wants it and justin does it, it truly is a thing of beauty
You showed Kershaw throwing fastballs and changeups also.
Sliders *
yep
+- Franklin According to Brooksbaseball.net he does have a 89 mph Change.
True but they all nasty!
The teachers wouldn't know
One thing I have learned is that as you progress through the levels of baseball it is less about the "big break" but more of the deception and the ability to make a pitch look and see like a fastball from delivery to release point. +MaxL14 you know those "hard curveballs" or balls that break 4 inches are called sliders right lol... that "slower bloopy curve" *is* his curveball
Half of Clayton kershaw's pitches were fastballs and sliders
Exactly what I was thinking haha I saw a lot of sliders lol
John Winters I was about to comment this exact same thing until i scrolled down and saw yours haha
John Winters yeah
@dave a slider can be a slurve and usually is
My slider looks like a slurve too
It's a damned shame that MLB doesn't encourage more camera angles from behind the catcher where the movement of the ball can really be appreciated. During the 60's and 70's that's where most camera views were shown from.
Haha the ump dropping some serious moves on the breakdown at 1:52!
+TheSeabornel Definitely a big time punch out.
The best curveball I've ever seen was koufax.Combine his curveball with that awesome fastball, and it was lights out all game long.Simply the best.
Blyleven had better curveball
Kerhsaw has the best curve I've ever seen. IN the 1970's and 1980's you had guys like Bert Blyleven, Nolan Ryan(yes a blistering curve) and Mike Witt who had incredible curves . I also remember Greg Harris having a great one too
I’d have to say Zito’s
You basically showed Kershaw throwing all sliders...its a nasty nasty pitch but its not a curveball...although his curve is nasty too
Ethan Jonas First one was nice tho.
I always wonder how can people tell what type of pitches are being thrown soon as it leaves the pitchers hand? I guess it's experience. I thought Kershaw was throwing a slurve.
You're an idiot. That most defiantly was a curveball, it's called 12-6 curve.
Adam Franklin not all of them...some of them were curves others were hard sliders. You should watch some baseball ;)
+Adam Franklin definitely not defiantly. And only a couple of them were curves. The first one was a curve. Most of the others were sliders. You can tell by the break but also the speed. Anything in the upper 80's is a slider. They were all around 86 miles per hour.
Where is Barry Zito ? The dude had a filthy curveball
clayton kershaw has a 94mph curveball?
most of those arent curve balls and he probably does to hes the best pitcher in the WORLD!
the video is meant to show the effectiveness of the curveball
You do realize you showed a ton of KC's change-up, right.....? Bc you did. His curve is incredibly distinctly 12-to-6.
Also showed a Clayton K on a fastball at 94. Not even kind of sure why tf it's in here. 2:26
@@michaeliii6250 I don’t think it’s intended for only curves. The title is just for views I think
@@zassassin4950 it says it was for a school project in the description...
@@TheMW2informer ok
May I ask what bgmusuc in this video?
Great as these great Pictures.
Animals -Martin Garrix
I think you meant to say pitchers there?
Seeing this on the screen doesn’t do it justice, 2014 Early in the season YovAni Gallardo pitched in Fenway vs The Red Sox and I was sitting 3rd row behind home plate, He wasn’t dominant as far as strikeout but my god his breaking stuff was really going that day. I always enjoyed watching Dave Stieb's nasty slider when he was on back in the 80s
The Curve or Slider are nasties pitches, but you need at least two(2) other great pitches in your repertoire to set them up.
Where is the wainwright curve from game 7 of the 2006 nlcs vs the Mets? That was one of the greatest curves ever
Watch the hitter at 0:32 seconds...
After he swings and misses, he turns and looks at the catcher to confirm that the ball didn't just disappear into thin air. The pitcher pulled some black magic.
Is the music by Markus Schulz? i've heard him play this track regularly in his set.
How about Bert Blyleven? He had one of the nastiest right-hand curve balls in the history of the game. That's why they called him " Dr. Hook".
0:25 - what's the umpire's or referee's call?? (sorry, don't know much about baseball)
+Jerome Tiemsim (Chim) Strike, also it's umpire for future refrence and it's ok not knowing much about baseball
Nicholas Jones But I thought the catcher dropped the ball??
It's still a strike, unless the batter was on 2 strikes, in which he wasn't. If you have 2 strikes and its another one but the catcher drops it, you can try and run to first base but if you get tagged or the ball gets to first you're out
Oh, I only watch baseball on anime.. Haha. Thanks
Welcome, fellow diamond no ace fan
this music reminded me of an abortion of my ears.
there is something called a slurve which is a slider mixed with a curve I've seen it before on tv
You need to learn the difference between a curveball and a slider.. smh
also fastballs, cause no one throws a 94mph curve...
+Chuck Norris except for Noah Syndergaard...
Ikr XD
+Melissa Winters some of them freakin forkballs too. throwing at 60mph?! slow asf.
Darvish actually pitches 2 curveballs, one slow and one fast. His slow one looks like a forkball, but it just curves that much.
Im a football fan and ex player but im much more afraid of baseball because of the curve ball! Much respect to all the batters who fearlessly stand in the box against these great pitchers!
why did you put sliders and fastballs for kershaw
How do you have a video on the”killer curveball” and not include Doc Gooden?
im not the biggest baseball fan, but i have trouble identifying different pitches while watching the games. the curves looks like a slider imo... the ball seems to drop down more than "curves"
Most of the pitches looked like they sank down when they got close to the plate, instead of curved left or right. One that curves from right to left, is called a what?
A curveball goes gloveside and down, in case you didn't know. Just right to left is a cutter. Im pretty sure.
+Crafted YT Second pitcher was using a sweeping curve (rapid drop with horizontal movement)

That first curve by Darvish was nasty. Slow pitch, nasty 12-6 break. That’s a curveball
Best curve was from darvish. A lot of sinkers, forkballs and sliders in this montage too. All breaking balls but definitely different than the curve ball.
Strasburg's throw @ 4:40 was a change-up. 89mph one at that.
You showed only two curves from Kershaw. The rest were fastballs, change ups, and a few slider/cutter
There was like 2 curveballs in kershaws ?
Everytime I watch games on TV I really hardly differentiate pitches due to angle.
I like the beat Dropping when Clayton Kershaw threw the curveball
Most of the highlights for Clayton Kershaw was his fastball except for the first highlight
do a video on the top 10 Best MLB Starting Pitcher's
José Fernandez... he's also got an insane slider and slurve
Like the song, Martin is my favourite music producer and DJ!😝
Dutch music FTW
there are a couple of changeups in this video...Strasburg threw a 89 mph changeup. the one before last.

what is the title of the song?
Knucklecurve Steven Wright?
Kershaws first curve in this video was probably the best ive ever seen
It was absolute filth. No chance for any hitter.
That was the only curve in the video for him the other was changeup and fastball
+Voodoo yeah, mostly change up and nobody throws a curve at that speed.
can we invent this on futsal?
what kind of music is this.
It's gotta be tough being a catcher for these and of course Knuckle balls.
what is the second song
+MrGreenHat what about Cole Hamels sweeping curve it is a very nasty pitch
These guys are so hard to hit because all of these pitchers have a great fastball and command and once they throw a curveball it's lights out

YU DARVISH is my FAVORITE baseball player
This didnt age well
Boy I just love it when someone points something out and then 20 people fucking repeat it
wtf, you only showed 1 kerveball, the rest were fbs and c-u's. His curve's pretty distinct, dunno how you could miss it.
So, did you fail the project given that most of these are sliders?
That was amazing
Podrías decirme como se llama esa pista por fa
would be better without curve just original sound
what is that music cold
Valerie Morales animals
Music?
That Adam Wainright Curveball from 1:00-1:02 was just FILTHY. They were all nasty, but that one really stood out to me.
Nolan ryan had one of the best curve balls in history
What a lovely ump
he cleaned the catcher's mask 4:28
Oh, you're also forgetting Madison Bumgardner... He can also throw a curveball which acts like a slider, it's more of a sweeping-curveball.
It's not that good. Which is why it's not shown.
You ever seen Darryl Kile throw a curveball before he died? Now that's a curveball...
The way to judge if a pitcher has a great curve ball is watching him freeze the hitter. Another way is to watch a great hitter look bad with a weak swing. Sandy Koufax was great at this.

What is the song name
What the song name?
Lovely sliders.
No, classic Barry Zito with his killer curveball.
+Sean B Zito has a great curve
Matthew Hudachek for sure, it's crazy how the curve ball bites these days.
Volquez has a pretty nast curve as well

The batter after a Strasburg curve "Jesus Christ"
Jesus "I couldn't do that"
Yu Darvish has a awesome arm.
Hey js but most of those "curve balls" were sliders especially Kershaw his curve is 70 to 74 mph which curves are usually mid 70's
This is the Magnus effect being used in sports.
I looked this up and saw that I had watched this before but couldn't remember then I saw all of Clayton's pitches were sliders and cutters lol
like 3 or 4 of those Kershaw clips were sliders
Like 2 of those Kersh strikeouts were actually with a curve...
You know you throw a good curve when even the catcher - who just told you to throw it probably and is expecting it - even has trouble getting to it :D
Gio Gonzalez has a pretty nice curveball I must say
They dont look like they curve much to me. Maybe curve down. I thought one that dropped down would be called a sinker, and a curve ball would curve left or right. About the only pitch i know is the fastball. Well, I guess it goes fast over the plate, but hell, that may not be right either.
There was a lot of sliders and change ups more than half weren't even curveballs
2:00 song??
Animals btw this song sucks
Kershaw was throwing mostly sliders and changeups
Your right.. Mostly sliders
why you be pounding quarter notes in the music ?
in litterally all the songs man
