I first want to to thank you Scott for recording this but allowing us privacy in that moment. Our son kayaked this lake often, stayed close to shore, and in the shallower parts. I do want to clear up a few things for everyone. He was not heard screaming. That is a false narrative that someone put out. He was a great swimmer and had his life jacket, he just never put it on. The kayak hit him in the head while he was in the water and he went unconscious. We will be starting a foundation for life jacket awareness and much more. Please stay tuned as we want to do it in a way that will honor him, but in a away that will catch the attention of a teenager
Reading this absolutely breaks my ❤️ It breaks thinking how scared he was screaming for help,it breaks for what he'll never experience in life all the firsts the rest of us get to experience,it breaks for those poor ppl who heard him screaming but couldn't get to him in time and for the first responders who did find him and lastly it breaks for his family and what their experiencing now. Seventeen years , I can't and don't want to ever know the agony of losing someone that young. Sorry just isn't enough...God be with you
Heard this on the scanner.. couldn’t believe someone was in the water. My condolences to the family and those involved, my husband works at April Sound Country Club on the Lake.
At that temperature he should have had almost an hour to save himself. I think they should teach side-stroke in schools, b/c you can swim for hours fully clothed which would reduce the chances of 'shock'(low brain oxygen from fright/flight responses forcing blood to places it isn't needed).
