Some people think that this boat is too big for a couple to operate. You would be surprised how easy it is when you have a Yacht Master controller with a bit of practice.. It just becomes a big model boat and you can control it from the swim platform when going in stern to. I know an owner operator who runs a Montefino 86 with him and his wife.

It's not about piloting the boat. Put enough cameras on the thing and someone with enough experience could probably berth an oil tanker solo. What makes boats of this size just about the limit for a couple to crew on charter is just how much work the operators need to do to maintain the boat and keep the guests happy. Washing down the boat every day, preparing all the toys and washing them down, ferrying guests from the yacht to shore and back, cooking, cleaning...it's easily a 14-16 hour day for both of them. If you're stressed out or having a marital dispute, you have to suppress it around your guests, and you and your spouse still have to share the same small cabin at night. It's no surprise that once you get to the 30-40m range you begin to see vessels with quarters for 4-6 crew, since it really takes that many people to do all the work.
I know that yacht crews are well-compensated, particularly considering that they've got practically zero living expense while aboard their vessels, but they endure a lot for it. I don't envy that life.

The skill comes in berthing in strong wind and currents. But yes, this is definitely within the remit of a skilled owner/operator. Lets face it, the captain is just one guy too. It's not like he has a massive crew of deck hands.
But it's probably a bit much for someone's first-ever boat too.

That's the only reason 70ft boats exist; even if you have the money, you don't want the hassle of maintaing/operating a 70ft boat. 70ft are too big to be managed by a couple (and you could argue that 70ft are a bit too small for having crew on board). Even if Volvo made bigger boats manageable through IPS, my hair stands up thinking about all the work by operating 70ft by myself. That would be my perfect idea of enjoying a boat-holiday; not caring about anything. Who, with the right mind would owner-operate such a vessel? I could never understand the 65-80ft market; but in this "charter-case" it seems to make sense. My idea of a perfect boat-holiday!

okumonux well where you live is incredibly different that here in Cancun Mexico from 40 feet every boat has at least 2 cpeople on crew and in 60-80 feet yachts their are at least 4 or 5 people on crew

only people who buy outside their means worry about doing all the work themselves ,, people who truly can afford this size yacht just pay others to do all the maintenance & upkeep ,, buying a toy to create a job for yourself is retarded
