- Scotland is an area I have always wanted to visit & I finally got the opportunity to take a camera up there and shoot it.
I used my micro four thirds Olympus E-M1 Mark 2 for the photos in this video, the video itself was filmed on my Sony A7r.

My name is Chris and I am a landscape photographer from East Yorkshire focussing on coastal long exposures using my micro four thirds Olympus cameras.

I used to be one of those people that were "oh, never a MFT camera. The photos will look just like some 2005 mobile phone". Recently, I was on a quest to look for a new camera to try out and one that really caught my eye with its style was the Lumix GX80/85. I saw it was MFT and said nope! After a few months of going back and forth on it, I decided to cave in since there was a solid deal for the Kit that includes the camera and 2 lenses. I figured worst to worst I can always return it back. I added a Lumix 20mm 1.7 to the order since I read great things about it and I mostly shoot primes. My biggest regret about this camera and MFT system is that I didn't get involved with it sooner! I've had everything from Nikon to Pentax to Leica, etc and I have to say that this camera is right up there with my all time favorites I've ever owned. Which is crazy because the price of the cameras and lenses in the MFT are extremely affordable when compared to many other options out there. Since I've gotten the Lumix, my Leica has literally just sat in its bag and gets no use because I enjoy the Lumix that much. Now I know the camera isn't an Olympus/OM but I posted about it because that camera has garnered my interest in all other aspects of MFT and especially about OM cameras. If there's anyone else out there on the fence about MFT and unsure about giving it a go, I say to you don't hold back. The pictures do NOT look like old mobile phone photos, they're top notch! I really enjoyed your video and your photos, thanks for sharing it with us!
I think that a lot of nonsense has been propagated by armchair photographers about MFT and other cropped sensor cameras. A couple of weeks ago, I resurrected my twenty year old Nikon D70, put a 24~85 VR lens on it and I can't remember that last time that I enjoyed photography so much, perhaps with the exception of when I use my Leica M. Yes, above iso 400 the photos show noise, it is only a 6 MP CCD sensor, It has no live view, it is as basic as they come, but because I had to be careful and treat it like a film camera, I have actually produced quite a few really good photos with it. I really rate both my EM5 MKII and EM 1 MKII very highly, BTW.
GX80 was my first and still my favourite of the three MFT cameras I own ☺️
@@lensman5762still my favourite camera is the lumix L1 (Leica digilux 3). Only 6 mp but the images are stunning (except when it's dark). I also shoot lumix gx9 and g9. All good tools.
Your pre morning image on day three using your phone light was just an incredible image. Totally blew me away. Thanks for all of your great videos.
Thanks Thomas. That one will be getting printed if my wall tomorrow 🤘🏻
Like this "road trip" format" and all the problem solving, very interesting and great pics.
Thanks Simon. I’ll try the format again.
Great video! Thoroughly enjoyed all the photos. The Milky Way with rock in the foreground was absolutely fantastic. Really superb! Scotland has such beautiful landscapes.
Wow absolutely amazing trip Chris. Some of the nicest photos I’ve seen in a long time. Who says micro 4/3 is no good for taking seriously good photos. So long as there is a seriously good photographer behind it. Fantastic 👍🏻👏🏻
Thank you 🙏🏻
I'm far from being a photographer Chris but always enjoy your videos. It sounds like Scotlands got you like its always got me. I could go on with endless lists of places to visit but I'm aware this is only a "comment".
It doesn't sound like you will anyway, but if I could give you one piece of advice, it would be, don't go in the summer. The clouds of midges are ferocious.
I have heard about the midges up there. They’re bad enough where I live in the summer months. If I head back up it’ll be towards the back end of the year I think.
Another awesome video Chris! Makes me want to go to Scotland even more....
I liked the one with the sky and the lit forground. Great job.
Really great video the Astro section was brilliant.
Thank you!
You’re welcome.
Marvelous images and a great video.
Thank you my friend.
Great video Chris, your Milky Way shot at Bow Fiddle Rock is mesmerising. Good to see you got some clear skies. Thanks for posting 👍👍
Thanks John. I was so pleased with how that one came out. I’ve never seen so many stars in the night sky as I have at that location.
Amazing shots, nicely presented, someone would want pics like them for cards ,calendars ect , well done Chris 👏
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Nice--I have been looking for a video like this. I hope to go to Scotland next October with my own E-M1 mkii!
Thank you. I’d advise you to check out the west coast. That’s the more impressive.
Great video and superb images Chris, really enjoyed this ! Nice one 👌🏻

Hi Chris, astrophotography, is very inspiring! will try that myself, keep up the good work....
Thank you! I plan to do more of it this year 😁
Cracking video, that astro shot was🔥, I'm yet to use my mft system for astro usually stick with my trusty canon 6d. Glencoe is definitely on my bucket list. Cracking video.
That astrophotography was 🔥. I'm going to Colorado for the first time and will be going to hit up the Red Rocks at night, along with doing snake photos. Your Scotland work's got me inspired.
Welcome to Scotland! Great shots btw!!😊
Thank you. I’ll be back up in a few months. It’s another world from what I’m used to seeing.
@@ChrisBaitson it is indeed. I live in the eastern-central part of Scotland, and that is totally different again! Even for someone from Scotland, the Highlands is like another world.
I have not seen the video yet and I know I will like the em1 mark ii is my camera also your videos helped me decide to buy it and I am very happy since 5 months ago I have it still has a lot to give to the em1 mark ii
Well, it took me more than a week before I could watch this video but I am glad I did. Took quite some useful tips and thoughts from it. And what an adventure and what a photos!

Hi chris I live up here in the highlands . also do photography . if you go to glen coe early in the morning or late evening is best as it gets packed with tourists these days at all these popular locations so be aware ,also lots of photographers . Rannoch moor is spectacular anywhere on the west coast near isle of sky or the isle of skye itsself will blow you away with the views and potential photographs. good luck and always check the weather before you venture up here again . Good luck and keep up the good work.
Thank you for the info. I plan on heading up again in a few months to that area. What’s the rules on camping/overnighting in a car around there? It’s absolutely stunning I was blown away.

@@ChrisBaitson Also you might be lucky enough to get some aroura shots at night if dark enough .

I drove though it on the way back, that’s where the last bunch of images were from.

West coast is where it’s at.
Could list many a place to view not just Glencoe for Rannoch Moor or Glen Etive, Killin and the falls of Dochart, kilchurn Castle, wailing widows falls, grey mares tails
