This is Danny Greenspoon. This performance is from the CBC radio show Swinging On A Star hosted by Murray McLauchlan. It aired in March of 1993. As Kit Johnson said before, it is technically not The Hip as it was me on electric guitar and Kit Johnson on bass along with Paul and Gord. Great memories.
thx for sharing that... i always wondered about this performance of get back again as the electric guitar style seemed different than bobbys and know i know why... you guys did a fantastic job, must be a real highlight to have been a part of such a special performance of this song that will live on forever
Get Back Again: Gorgeous ballad written by Gord Sinclair, played often in 1990. It was eventually recorded for Road Apples, but never released. A fan favorite, it was brought back every once in a while, and even played live on the radio in 1992. Last played in Kingston in February, 1995. Among diehard Hip Heads, it remains the most requested of the unreleased material, and is perhaps the most deserving of a release.
MatthewGoodRox I agree. My husbands favourite song, it makes me think of when we were first dating. He was diagnosed with a GBM tumour ( like Gord has) in 2014 and it has torn our life apart. Makes me think, what if I never met him and also, I'm so thankful I did.
During the Fully Completely tour, I saw the Hip live at Massey Hall. Chest pressed against the stage, I remember Gord clowning with some Groucho glasses that had been thrown onstage. I remember screaming "Get Back Again!" at the top of my lungs during every lull in the music... Later, at the first night of Another Roadside Attraction in Markham Fairgrounds, I hollered "Get Back Again" over and over, this time from about 30m from the stage. The next day, 2nd night of Roadside, When The Hip broke into Get Back Again, I swear, in my heart, they were playing it for me. I'll never forget singing and dancing to this song in the pit surrounded by thousands of revelling Hip fans. I just want to thank the band for that. For that moment. For that song. It's etched in my memory. Thanks Gord (the good Gord up above), Paul, Gord, Bobby and Johnny. Effing brilliant, guys.
I was there in Markham. Didn't know what this song was but hearing it now, it's quite good. thanks for being the impetus to me hearing it live that night 🙂
I’ve been a Hip fan since the beginning. Thanks to Bill Baker, I now know I was at the last show this song was performed. I was at the Kingston 95 show. For some reason I took the sweatshirt I bought at the show and had “Kingston 95” embroidered 0n it. It now has more meaning for me. Thanks Bill
Amazing that this quality of recording is out there! I’d love a digitally remastered version of the early early stuff. All the tracks from the Vancouver ‘86 recording. Anyway, you uploaded a gem. Thanks
Links? I’d love to share it with my son. He was born 2 months after this recording. Our FAVE Hip song. Or, Gordo song. Man, I miss Gordon Downiest soooo much!
My thoughts are that it's because Gord Downie didn't write the lyrics. Gord Sinclair wrote the song. Maybe he wanted to hang on to it for a solo project. Who knows.
Rob Baker told a story once about why. When they were recording it for Up to here I believe they had one perfect take and looked at each other knowing they were nailing it and this was the one that would make it on the album. When they were done their sound engineer maybe, whoever was in charge of recording said " Okay play it again just like that and we're going to record it this time" . They never could get it just right again so it never made it on an album.
i have this version..any idea on when / where this was performed? i have always wished they would release this...but the rumour is they never will due to some personal reasons? can anyone clarify? anywho, amazing song and it would be a hit if they wanted to release...cheers, BB
This is from the CBC radio show "Swinging on a Star" hosted by Murray McLauchlan and is not technically the Hip since the bass and electric guitar are me and Danny Greenspoon, along with Paul and Gord of course.
Lyrics: What's the deal with your dad? He don't even know my name Didn't know he'd be back Didn't know he'd be mad No one stayed to share the blame I didn't mean to do that She won't even come around Every time I look back Didn't realize that I was better off than now Mothers came and cried for Abel Brother Cain survived the century's end All the time that I thought was my friend Be all right till we get back again Heaven knows you are right (and they will never drag you down) And they will never drag you down (there ain't time to lose sight) There ain't time to lose sight Getting lost in the light Is more than never being found Mothers came and cried for Abel Brother Cain survived the century's end All the time that I thought was my friend Be all right till we get back again I never could go back (and I could never leave my home) And I could never leave my home (and why'd they change a face like that?) And why'd they change a face like that? If I'd never seen ya I could always dream that I'd be better off alone Mothers came and cried for Abel Brother Cain survived the century's end All the time that I thought was my friend Be all right till we get back again Be all right till we get back again Be all right till we get back again

Thanks for the air date, but do you have any specifics on the CBC studio recording date, by any chance? Been trying to nail this down for a while...
@@andrewleccese2880 It was recorded on Jan. 12, 1993 at CBC Studio 4S in Toronto, and aired on March 13, 1993.
Joe Blow beautiful! Great work friend.
DannyG that was 2 months b4 I gave birth to my youngest son. We both adore this piece. Thank you for that. 💚💚💚
This song is magic. I have been a lifelong Hip fan, but have only started really appreciating this song recently.

My favourite!
Bill Barker I thought I knew everything about the hip, thanks for this
Such a brilliant song.. I am 27 and from Australia, found this song about 4 years ago..
I still sing it all the time..
@@hannahhoppe8377 I hope it inspired you to explore more of what The Tragically Hip has to offer!
Blonde solid is another great song that I don't think made it on a Hip album.
This is such a great hip song - one of the most underrated bands ever
And where did you really read that the Hip were underrated ?
Where did you see that rating. ?
This is one of the most beautiful songs! How could anyone have given it a thumbs down?
It was probably a joke
It just didn't fit the with the sound of Road Apples. But I agree, it's a great song.
I don't trust anyone that doesn't The Hip! 😁🤟🇨🇦
Greatest song never to have been released. Love it, I use to go for pre-game walks and listen to this song and lost it years ago...Thanks.
One of their very best. Thanks Gord
"If I'd never seen ya I could always dream that I'd be better off alone".
I hate and love that this line applies to my life.

Kris Jo i hope everything is well. Sending love and well wishes tonight
Such a humble, self effacing line..Typical i suppose ;)
Love his passion for music, life, and CANADA

As one that was “never being found...” I’m ever so grateful for this morsel of goodness & truth. Thank you Gords- Sinclair & Downie. 🥰
I am a HUGE hip fan, i am so sad this song isnt on an album. Could be one of the best songs they wrote! Absolutely love this gem!!

Be happy you found this gem! It should be on regular rotation for true Hip fans.
Thanks for the music Gord!

Just heard this on the radio at work, and my radio was loud, I like the song!

Love the The Hip
R.I.P
i'm thinking that this song was taken from a CBC radio show called Command Performance.I saw them play it at the Misty Moon in 1989. My idea of heaven
They only today actually release this song
such a beauty...... and always a head scratcher that it was never released formally...only they know why I guess.
My thoughts are that it's because Gord Downie didn't write the lyrics. Gord Sinclair wrote the song. Maybe he wanted to hang on to it for a solo project. Who knows.

Best song

Someone please release this song. I was soooo disappointed when it did not make Road Apples
GORD SINCLAIR JUST DID.
"No one stayed to share the blame"..Poignant, but i think that's the point..Most people did the best that they could at the time ;)
Groovy

Why I hope I go to his heaven.........it so doesn't have loss!!!
What did you do?
Lyrics:
What's the deal with your dad?
He don't even know my name
Didn't know he'd be back
Didn't know he'd be mad
No one stayed to share the blame
I didn't mean to do that
She won't even come around
Every time I look back
Didn't realize that
I was better off than now
Mothers came and cried for Abel
Brother Cain survived the century's end
All the time that I thought was my friend
Be all right till we get back again
Heaven knows you are right (and they will never drag you down)
And they will never drag you down (there ain't time to lose sight)
There ain't time to lose sight
Getting lost in the light
Is more than never being found
Mothers came and cried for Abel
Brother Cain survived the century's end
All the time that I thought was my friend
Be all right till we get back again
I never could go back (and I could never leave my home)
And I could never leave my home (and why'd they change a face like that?)
And why'd they change a face like that?
If I'd never seen ya
I could always dream that
I'd be better off alone
Mothers came and cried for Abel
Brother Cain survived the century's end
All the time that I thought was my friend
Be all right till we get back again
Be all right till we get back again
Be all right till we get back again
his hats are the best
Miss Gord
I kind of prefer the softer vocal tone on this one
And the guitar tone
But the officially released one is pretty good as well
TiTs.
Only Canadians could sound like the hip.
I from Buffalo and I still play the hip with my band
American, but Hip loving American here.
