I'm glad I caught this. A year ago, I changed the ring & pinion gears in my '83 cj7. We disconnected the brake lines, and when I tried to bleed the brakes, I couldn't get the brake pedal back up. Had to replace the master cylinder. Still no pedal. I left it alone for the winter because of high cost garage heat. Just started working on it again, and replaced the proportioning valve. The brake pedal sits ,2 inches higher than the clutch. Now that saw your podcast, I can feel & hear the rod hitting inside the m.c.. I loosened up the steering column to try to get the switch out. I'm going to weld a better spot for it. Thanks for the insight.
I still have my old M C. . I'm going to take it apart again. The Clymer's book says it's only supposed to have 1/16 to 1/8 inches of Freeplay. Looks like you have new pedals and bracket. Looks too hard to pull them out. If I can just get the wires off, I'LL make a new bracket a lot lower. You can feel the rod going in the MC a whole inch before it hits the Piston.
Yeah, they didnt really plan for the ability to make any adjustments. And still confused about why my push rod doesnt have a retainer ring to act as a back stop, but I guess with the setup of my brake switch, it works for now.
