Absolutely should have laid out for it. However, miss or catch the game was lost. Even if he catches it on a dive though smith likely would have tagged and scored.
Didn’t really matter if he dove and caught it the runner at third would have still went scored the winning run regardless. Wouldn’t have been enough time after the catch to get up and make a throw.
ngl during the swing i was mad that he expanded the zone with risp again but watching it back that was a nasty change. how the hell did he make good contact there?!

Hahaha, love the OW when Shohei's Head of Marble hit the 1st Base Coach's - and that grin by Pages - he knew what the pitcher was going to do and he's like "oh, okayyyy"
Well, a team still has to do something with an extra chance. Freddy dropped a foul popup for an error, giving that Brave another chance. It didn’t lead to a run. Pages still had to actually put the ball in play. He did. The Dodgers won.
@@cyrusvirus6928he could’ve slid and made the catch, Will Smith was not waiting to tag, meaning if caught he would’ve had to go back to 3rd base to tag up.
The tv camera compresses the depth of field from that angle. The CF was not close enough to make a diving catch. He played the odds that the runner was tagging up as they would about 99% of the time and then he could throw him out (easily) from that shallow. The runner, though, made his own smart play recognizing he could not tag from the shallow if the ball was caught. So he went 3rd of the way and stopped to see what transpired. If it was caught, he was close enough to return to 3rd and hope the next batter could get a 2 out hit. Once he recognized it wasn’t going to get caught, he ran home leaving the fielder no chance to throw him out. You can see that Smith started home before the ball hit the grass…which means he, without a compressed tv view, recognized the CF could not get to the ball in the air. The bigger mistake that was made is the Braves, with only one out and the winning run on third didn’t pull their outfield in a bit more shallow. They were too deep for the situation and were protecting against balls hit deep. That is worthless as the runner will tag and score. Play up specifically to protect against bloops and line drives. You will normally still have a chance to make a play at the plate on those type hits. By playing modestly deep, they lost the ability to protect against the bloop.
@@ajalvarez3111 Compressed depth or not it's where the ball landed 4:11 which took the CF exactly one step to reach it which means he was very close, had he not eased up might have reached it. Just seemed like a lack luster effort with the game on the line.
Time the CF went back to the minors to work on his hustle. That was a very piss poor effort on his part. I'm just wondering why he pulled up short????? I understand they're playing under the lights but that didn't look like the lights were affecting him at all. It looks like he just gave up on the play.
Doesn’t really matter it’s not the postseason and that’s where we get the terrible calls from the umpires year after year after year goes all the way back to Bumgardner and Kershaw
Everytime ohtani slumps hitting, the pitching becomes very simpler and location is fixed (this time same velocity of pitching and outside only, nothing going to be in low or high, though pitching freeman to all corners). all home runs this year are same. ops with or without base runners is also so different. is ohtani really a good baseball player?
after dive for the ball, will unable to have enough time to get up and pass back to home to tag out the runner. ( dive may have chance cause injury, not worth it )
You and 23 upvoters are living in clown world. The camera compresses the the picture from the head on angle. The CF was not nearly as close to the ball as you think it was. You guys also missed two really heads up baseball plays right in front of your face made by the CF and the runner on 3rd on that play. Doubt you’ll ever figure it out. Baseball doesn’t need better players. Baseball needs more educated fans.
yes pages hit the game winner BUT he needs to have more discipline in his at bat. the moment got too big for him. that is why he keeps swingning pitches way out of strike zone. he just got lucky tonight that those balls he hit were fouls.
Pages is here to stay. Dude can hit and he will end CT3 career. CT3 cannot hit and even though he can play different positions, hes a liability at the plate. Lux is starting to hit but Outman needs to go to the minors
What an ignorant comment. The check swing is, by far, the hardest call in baseball to make. To make matters worse for the umps, THERE IS NO DEFINITIVE DESCRIPTION IN THE RULES OF WHAT ENTAILS A CHECK SWING STRIKE. It’s really left up to the judgement of each umpire if they saw a swinging strike. There is no “his bat crossed the plate” or “he broke his wrists” or any of that crap. Read the rule yourself. It’s so hard to make the right call, especially for the home plate ump, that umpires REGULARLY turn to each other for help on the call. That rarely happens for any other call. In this instance, the home plate ump conferred with the 1st base ump at the catcher’s request because he wasn’t sure (if the batter was left handed the home plate ump would check with the 3B ump). At that point the responsibility for the call shifts to the 1B ump. He is the sole judge in the world if the swing went far enough to be called a strike. NY cannot overrule on replay because THERE IS NO OBJECTIVE description in the rules. There is no measurement to use. It is what the ump says it is. End of story. Go cry elsewhere.
Anyone else think the center fielder should have dove at least? Seemed catchable
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Why not? If he misses it, so what. It’s a run either way. I think he realized that once the ball dropped.
Absolutely should have laid out for it. However, miss or catch the game was lost. Even if he catches it on a dive though smith likely would have tagged and scored.
No really. Smith was 1/3 down the line when the ball landed.
As a dodger fan I kinda feel like that was a Mickey Mouse walk off since the dude kinda hesitated to catch it
Didn’t really matter if he dove and caught it the runner at third would have still went scored the winning run regardless. Wouldn’t have been enough time after the catch to get up and make a throw.
CFer is just like yeah im not diving for it or anything. Lol

Dodgers fans gonna have alot to cheer about this year
is that a ws perdiction
Tie & walk-off hit were both on really good pitches.
Center fielder BLEW it. Legit stopped short had no urge to get that ball lol.
I think he forgot the situation. That was a mental error. Doesn’t show up in the box score, but mental error noted, and I think he knew it.

The first time watching Page. I didn't watch his first four at bats. I like his approach at this pressure at bat.
This could be the most stressful at bat for the pitcher. Why didn’t he bunt though, isn’t a bunt guarantees that win too.
@@Ohtani9999 no because it's to risky to bunt. With 1 out runners on the corners a hard hit sac fly is the approach
Harris should’ve slid or dove. Why the hell did let it drop like that?
that pitch he threw to ohtani was amazing.. nothing you can do there..
Yep, great piece of hitting. A defensive swing with 2 strikes but has enough strength to get it through the infield. Very old school at bat.
Pages is fearless. Dodgers have another unanticipated weapon.
And thats why he makes the big bucks,

Piss poor effort by center fielder on that last at bat
For some odd reason, we feel everybody wins when Ohtani does well.

He should have dove , that was too close to him.😢
No one gonna say anything about how that at bat would’ve been over if the ump just made the right call and said that was a swing when it clearly was
