When he threw the five instead of putting it in Electric Shock+ I yelled "No!" but he didn't listen.

Didn't think it would be that bad since i expected it but it slipped out of me too
I think he forgot that the upgraded spell could use any number, not just evens. But I still winced hard when it happened.

Tip for the witch, you want to get a lot of dice because more dice always results in more DMG because you aren't limited by your equipment for how many attacks you can do
TWICE. THE EGG WASTES A 5 ON NOT THE ELECTRIC SHOCK+ NOT ONCE BUT TWICE IN THE SPACE OF 4 MINUTES.

I dont think its appreciated what nudge actually does - it turns every even into an odd and every odd into an even (except 1 of course). If your deck is based on cards like magic missiles and magic shields it always gives you exactly the dice you want. In that way it's just a better cauldron if you dont mind losing 1 damage for always having the dice you want.
It does that until there are more impactful spells.
Your disdain for hall of mirrors will be your downfall.
Especially when it's on an upgraded slot and you can get up to 3-4 extra dice on tough fights.

Egg complains about damage and ignores magic missile and magic spear.
He doesn't see it. He just doesn't see it.
Then gets duplicate so he could get probably 20 damage at least if duplicating six or if the magic spear is in the upgraded slot
And he wasn't really using inferno which seemed really good. He never put it on the upgrade slot at all.
Magic spear just isn't that good.

Use Hall of Mirrors. More dice means more spells. It's worth the investment.
you have to use 2 dice to get 1 extra dice per turn. So only after 3 more turns is it worth the investment. Using hall of mirrors on any turn after 1 is usually not worth it, and fights often don't even last 4 turns.
You can drag out fights though with the right equipment, like any healing
Eh it's not that great, too slow in my opinion.
The harder enemies get in later episodes make that much more difficult to attempt.
Also, consider changing your prepared spells depending on the enemy you are fighting!
I think you overvalue shock. It's good, but situationally so. A lot of enemies seem to either have extra dice to undo the shock or extra equipment such that it doesnt matter that much if some of it is shocked.
IMO, the status that's most consistently useful is weaken

NL I feel like you really undervalue freeze. In terms of shutdown potential, it effects far more enemies than shock due to them having spare dice/equipment. While it doesnt downright negate damage, frost turns tough enemies into wet noodles.
It definitely does devastate some enemies, but I think that, when you run freeze, you need to also have a backup means of fighting. Some enemies get stronger when frozen (like the yeti)
Freeze is super good. Had a run today where I used glacial shroud + an upgraded one, magic shield, and hall of mirrors to make enemies do tiny damage while I shielded and stalled to get more dice. I hard 18 extra when fighting the boss and like 20 shield.
Totally agree with you. Freeze plus weeken is the best combo for shutdown. Fire and shock, on the other hand, feels a bit underwhelming as effective status effects (well except countering particular enemies) and locking dice still has 1/6 chanse to work. Also I wonder if someone actually managed to make poison build work, 'cause even with upgraded skills it seems too slow for me.
@@johnrembo6055 Poison needle build on thief is pretty good, but for the most part yeah, the game seems to overvalue poison as a status effect so its equipment is weak. Poison is only good if you can establish a good foundation, but many poison effects only apply 1 or 2, which will fall off rapidly
hard counters sneezy, but if you get a yeti then good luck
This is such a refreshing game. Love the variety NL, and especially love this game.

I think you way, way, way overthink Witch. You're tripping yourself up with possibilities that may or may not exist instead of playing what you actually have correctly.
NL skipping out on the Magic Spear wasnt the way to go. You upgrade that bad boy and it will carry your witch game. Place it on your prepared slot and boom. Get a fury attack spell and a duplicate and you do near 15 damage per turn on average.

Seeing NL cast the same spell multiple times but not putting it on the upgrade slot was agonizing because I want the egg to win. But it was pretty funny though

I don't really understand NL's love of shock. It's good, but it's probably the second worst elemental effect. Freeze is worse, but burn, weaken, and poison all seem much better. His barrier always seems to be damage, and shock helps zero in terms of dealing damage and only helps minimally in terms of preventing it (because the AI seems to heavily prioritize damage-dealing). Like he cakewalks through the robot, the warrior, and the inventor runs because he ends up doing SO much damage but seems to do SO little damage on witch runs. Also magic mirror is probably the best spell in the game. Any turn that you can't lethal magic mirror should be used. SO many extra dice and SO much extra damage.
ThatOneGuy8305 idk about burn but freeze is better, most of the time a 1 dice will do a lot less than having to spend one dice to open an equipment slot especially on the enemies
Freeze is probably the best elemental effect in the game. The majority of enemies do damage based on dice value or prefer higher dice values. Very few benefit from having all 1's, and for the ones that do you can always just use a different elemental effect or none at all for those fights.
The other thing is that half the benefit from freeze comes from being able to dictate the CPU's turn. It's much easier to predict what they'll do if you know they're gonna get all 1's or mostly 1's. This means you know how much shield you need to put up.
@@johnrozewicki7132 I feel like enough enemies do fixed damage based on rolls and/or have enough dice that freeze isn't all that helpful. Burn is great because it totally trivializes several of the more annoying enemies. Cactus man in particular can hurt real bad if you rely on freeze but is made impotent by burn.
@@ThatOneGuy8305 Fixed damage isn't really that common, but it does depend a little bit on the RNG which enemies you fight. You also don't have to only use one type of elemental effect. You should have multiple available or otherwise you will most likely die to something that hard counters that strategy. My advice wasn't to use freeze only, and that's why I recommended using a different elemental effect for the small number of fights that hard counter freeze.
As a status effect I don't think burn is that good, but it's not the worst. The trouble is that burn does a very small amount of damage, and you can have bad luck where the enemy just never touches the burned dice at all. This means that you also need a way to stack it. Freeze is more consistent than most of the other status effects. It doesn't freeze a random die. It freezes dice in descending order by dice value. So a single cast of freeze is more consistent than a single cast of burn (better dice economy), and it's useful even without casting it multiple times on a turn.
I tend to pair freeze with shock

... There a 3 parts of the electric shock spell : requires even, does [dice] damage and shock. NL constantly forgets about the middle one, and then says "Makes you long for the days where you play dice that are like 'deal 6 damage' but we're past those days now".

I was playing the Thief, on the second floor I fought an alchemist and it gave me the option to transform into a bear because she could do that. I thought it would just do some damage or something, so I turned into a bear. It gave me new equipment, change the character model into a fuzzy bear looking dice, I stayed a bear after the fight, the game offered me bear-centric equipment, everyone after the transformation referred to me as a bear, and I couldn't buy items in shops because they said they didn't have anything my size. I finished the game as a bear, the character is super powerful by the way. I love games that shove in small details like that, makes it feel more real. Love this game, and I look forward to finding other cool stuff like the bear transformation

You were mentioning the shut down potential of shock: don't underestimate the shut down potential of frost either. Forcing the enemy to convert their high rolls into 1s means A LOT less damage coming in. A lot of freeze with a small shield can mean little to no damage on tough fights.

Witch only really has the power of hall of mirrors and technically infinite equipment as long as you have dice. The attacks though? Usually much lower value than what other classes can do.
NL, love the series! I think Freeze is generally superior to Shock except with bosses with low dice pools and low cards
I like Nudge because it can turn any odd (except 1) into an even number and vice versa which can be pretty helpful for the witch character. I also understand tho that it takes up a slot which you could choose to put an odd or even spell in there anyways.

I mean this in the best way, but nl has so many "interesting" plays that it is easier to not pay attention to the game when watching this.

NL, I feel you overvalued shock and undervalue freeze. Shock is more of a gamble, if the enemy has many equipment, you have to hope that the equipment you shocked is relevant. If you shock an equipment that takes odd, and the opponent only rolls evens, shock is literally useless. Whereas frost will ALWAYS help. It will always lower the highest dice. Needless to say, it decreases the damage you take. Additionally, this is especially useful on equipment that needs build up, especially when a six gets turned into a one, which happens very often. Freeze is a lot more consistent, shock is a gamble.
Technically freeze isn't always good. Certain enemies who benefit from 1's or odds get really strong from freeze (such as yeti).
But in general it's definitely more consistent.
Actually in the situation where an opponent rolls all evens but only has equipment that takes odds shock may be useless but freeze is even worse as it would allow them to play a dice

NL, if you have a blind dice and anything that does x + x damage, when you put the blind dice into one of the slots it shows you the value in the bottom where the damage calculation occurs.

I loved the first episode so much I bought the game and I can say it took the most tries before I got a win for the witch. And I can also say the synergy it took to win left me untouched in the last four fights including the boss. I think the witch is a character where you need to find a synergy or she just flops

Is it a guaranteed drop? I've always got it and I can't imagine not using it as much as you can. Unless you can lethal in 3 turns (very unlikely) it's worth feeding it a bunch. Plus you can stall with freeze and magic shield.

Bought this game based on the 5 episodes and two streams that NL has done.
This game is reallllly great, hoping it continues to be great as I work through the episodes.
And really really hoping that the developers make some more cards/iterations on the cards in future DLC
The way I won my first witch run was an Ice Shard, Blizzard, Magic Missile Based run. All dice would be frozen and I'd be doing massive damage
Haven't been watching NL cause of the egg cam tbh. But hey, the narrower cam helps out a lot less distracting.

He’s a build for the witch. Stack heal, shields and hall of mirrors until you get enough dice to kill them in one go. Each turn takes forever.

Yo NL, just learned something from your vid, you can find out the value of a blind die by putting it in inferno (or any other two dice needing damage one) because it will say the value for the damage underneath
