Or grabbing a spring leg to put it a post...this tool is designed well for gun maintenance. A small 2mm hex bit would be useful to add for some grips and a small punch to push pins through instead of a serradded edge would make it ideal.
They certainly didn't "just throw them in there" Guns don't typically use Phillips head screws or require scissors. It's a Gun Maintenance Tool, made by a gun company.
By walther for walther pistols. I would have put a dedicated slide release key on there because walthers require a key to unlock the slide to take it off. My buddy had one that he got on the private sell market and it didnt have a key so i had to rig up one out of other things to turn the pivot in the frame to let the slide come off. I believe Ruger uses the same thing or type but their own key has to be used. I know the LC series does anyway.
You can tell whose EDC includes a firearm and whose doesn't. This tool would be nice to have in the range bag or in the field. I probably won't be getting one because I already have a bunch of tools in the range bag.
Looks like those are all tools for weapons maintenance. It’s very specific to gunsmith’s. That multitool will NOT be for most people’s needs. But I like it and will use one as an armorer. I didn’t even know about that tool so thank you
I was wondering if it was produced by the Walter firearms company. I guess that would explain it. I do love the size and shape, but as he says. I don’t really need it.
I looked at the GMT 150 because I'm writing a book on MTs and other pocket tools, even telephoned with the responsible product manager (here in Germany). The file may not be the greatest, but particularly that "weird thing" you didn't understand is very helpful to push an pull springs in weapons. So, as a lot of others correctly stated before, it's a specialized tool. On the one hand it is just that. On the other hand, as you stated yourself, it has got a very interesting form factor for the pliers. As I have commented several times, in comparison to small pliers from Knipex (and also some other companies) EVERY MT pliers fail to help to cope with medium jobs. Even a LM Surge pliers will fail to move a nut of 1/2 or 3/4", or get a grip on something of 20mm or more in width/thickness - which is no problem for a Cobra 150. But a small pair could complement those nicely. The Nextool Sailor and also the SOG power pint are pretty OK in that regard, but on very heavy, clumsy frames. So if you want a size between a real pair of pliers and the Victorinox pliers on SAKs, this fits perfectly... plus all the specific stuff.
It has the weird tool set because it is a firearms maintenance multitool. Which it actually has a pretty decent tool set for. But from an edc perspective most of the tools are useless
It's because that is made for a gun specifically Walthers line of pistols. That's what GMT stands for. Gun Maintenance Tool. That injection molded plastic is called polymer and it's what they make their pistol frames out of. I would also say your gauges are for barrel sizes. If you are going to review things know what they are for.
@@SgtDuster exactly! Now usually this guy is spot on for the most part but that was not in this video. I bet if he looked up gun multitool he would see a lot more similar to this one. This one isn't a good one in my opinion either. Half that stuff you don't really need to work on a pistol. What you do need is punches to get roll pins out and precision drivers maybe a sight pusher, scraper, etc.
@@Woowoo88The tip of the file tool is sufficient for poking a roll pin out enough to pull it the rest of the way out with the pliers. Alternatively, just do what I do and keep an equivalent size hex key in your kit.
Not sure what the diameter gauges are for, too small for barrels. But they look good for me for measuring pins etc that you will find holding firearm, parts together.

I know this is a tool made for guns by a gun company, but it is legitimately an awesome design and form factor. I would love to see them expand this tool into a line with more widely usable toolkits, better tool steel and quality control, and even larger versions keeping the same slim gun-grip-textured poly scales but with the slim form factor
Victorinox makes the Victorinox FASS 90 for the StGw-90 (Sig 550) and it is mostly to adjust the sight. To my knowledge that is the only gun tool they make. Honestly, I would look at Real Avid, they have quite the selection of Gun-Multitools and they seem to be of decent/good quality.
Nice multi tool, great for a range bag for sure. Now modifying it was my first thought and the possibilities are endless. I see a whole future of vids. Thanks for your time
The SOG powerpint for the win! I ordered thumb studs for it, made the bottle opener into a flathead, filed the scissors to a point and rearranged the tools so the most useful ones are on one side and all one handed opening and closing. It's an excellent compact tool.
You know some gun maintenance tools can be used for EDC or more importantly, other maintenance fields than just guns. I don't how this tool translates into a walther pistol, but I've seen more general purpose multitools from walther.
When I'm not carrying my surge i tend to carry a triple blade friction folder because most edc tasks are to cut something open or shorter if i require anything else in never more than a few steps away from a screw driver or some type of pliers unless i leave the house without the car and I'm not at work.
Glad to see more use of polymers in multitools. Below certain sizes you don't really need the strength of a steel frame anyway (mostly... I know some do). I'm aspleasantly surprised as I was back in the day by the Benchmade Bugout. Trimming excess weight.
I used to love their guns, then they went all in on PDP... I still have my q5 Match SF, just bought a threaded barrel for it and a tungsten recoil rod, and put the aluminum grips on it, since I loved them on my black daimond q5. Need to figure out how to put the blue mag well on it.
There's a reason I don't carry folding pliers in my pocket anymore, and this video explains it perfectly. Once I can get a strong set of pliers plus Phillips plus scissors, it will live on me for the rest of my life. I probably grind the tip of the pliers to a little bit more of a point.
The best small multitool I have and often carry on the weekend is the leatherman juice xe6 and its only ok. Would love something that size that you could pick and choose your tools.
For a gun specific tool, it needs a small punch (1/16"), a medium punch (1/8"), a flat head, a Phillips head, a 1/4" drive, a micro "pry bar" made of something softer than steel (e.g. polymer, brass, etc.), and parallel pliers. If you are specific to a model (AR, shotgun, etc.), then you may want to add a front sight tool, choke wrench, or something along those lines. It doesn't need a knife blade at all. (How many people are there who carries guns and don't also have a pocketknife already on them?)
Looks like a very light tool for scraping your AR bolt and doing other cleaning/maintenance tasks. Considering how heavy a military loadout is: it need to be as light as possible.
Looks cool! I love the powerlitre and it replaced the skeletool cx in my pocket...but then I got the power access and it's all I carry. The one handed pliers are where it's at! Any other lightweight one handed options? I prefer pliers, file, knife, and drivers.....
Did you try the Walther MTK Multi Tac Knife 440A? I have it in my glove compartment. Also have some 'real' screwdrivers and pliers etc in the trunk, but the MTK does 50% of the jobs.
Hi, I just purchased the 150 while visiting Portugal, I liked the size of it. I agree some of the tools are useless, which is where I would like to ask about the modifications you mentioned. Where can I find those mods, many thanks,
I got mine today, unfortunately when it is closed, the handles do not align and they rub / move left/right a bit. I wish it had a phillips head too. It is nice, small and light thou. Smaller than you would expect :)
Maybe it fits in a gun case, for regular use there's nothing better than the Leatherman Wave. Full steel, several screwdrivers, a scissor, a very good diamond file, sharp blades and an amazingly sharp saw.
Pliers/wire cutter, main blade, straight slot, phillips, can opener/cap lifter, awl, scissors, wood saw and metal saw/file in that slim form factor would be great.
For EDC, nah im good. But to keep in a range bag, hell yeah! Also this is not meant to just carry, its for taking apart and cleaning guns. Maybe they should make an EDC version.
Looks like a pretty neat and lightweight option. When you said that basically you need only a blade, Phillips head and flathead on the pliers, my question is, doesn't it make more sense to replace the flathead and Phillips head by a hexbit driver, as in the GOAT tool? I'm curious if you'll mod it that way :)
@@maxlvledc what do you think about a combination with a Leatherman bitholder plus the extender? could that be worth a try? I mean, you're a fantastic modder with an incredible knowledge and skills. do you think it could be worth a try?
"in addition to the pliers, all you really need in this tool are 3 things. A blade, a flat head, and a Phillips head".... And that's why i happily edc a skeletool cx
I like the slim profile but I don't own a firearm. If they would make one with a main straight blade, double sided file, 3d philips head screwdriver and a strong flat head screwdriver I would be interested.
This does look like an interesting platform for customizing. I don't pocket a multitool because most are heavy, but I'd pocket this if the tools could get dialed in. I don't EDC a firearm, so some of this stuff I don't care about. I'm not even that keen on a blade at all given that I'd still carry a knife. But this would be a cool platform to make an ultimate TSA friendly bladeless tool. I'm thinking adding a phillips, improving the flat, and getting a beefier file. I'd be interested to see what you come up with on customizing.
As a guitar tech and work on bikes there are many times very small hex drivers are needed and as many different metric and standard sizes from .050 " to 5mm and also string spacing and nut sizing from 42mm to 45 and other sizes from 2 1/4 to 54 mm. i actually would appreciate the guages and rulers. Kind of a pain to constantly have to have at hand or reach for calipers in either fractional or decimal inches or mm. If the scale could double as a depth guage that would be even better. Have seen some bike specufic MT and one for casual guitar players but nothing as extensive as this one for pistol owners. This video points out a major for me problem with MT tools and reviews. The real quality in hardness and longevity of the incuded files whether diamond or otherwise never seems to be really tested ditto for some of the other tools. The scissor quality's are tested well and sometimes the knife blades and steels but rarely tbe main tool the pliers/ cutters. Where is the Rockwell hardness tests and such , german knife makers use to include the RH mark ON THE BLADE. The " it wont even file my nails" test I find totaly inadequate and is the sort of test that reminds me of US car reviewers basing a major time of their review to how many cup holders and interior gadgets the car " has" . I seriously doubt if any of the MT have a great file as even Victorianox only incuded a nail file as they knew that a real file that thin at RH 62 would just snap with the slightest consumer style mis use. So how about at least a diamond dust file review of how it cuts/ lasts in knife steel. Presumably that would be the primary use in EDC and outdoor use, but I see nothing about this. As guitar fret filer in an ever increasing use of hard SS fret use amoung even Chinese makers this is a critical tool.
Hi! Great video, I really like the foundations of the tool as well and I was curious if you were planning on making an update video for when you mod it?
Would be cool if they emptied one side and put in a driver with interchangeable bits. Then the other side could have a blade, scissors and potentially an awl. I think weight would take a minor hit by that’s fine.
Right. Gun owners doing maintenance on their guns never open boxes, and their tools never leave the vicinity of their weapons to do normal things MTs do. Never!
i own a couple walther pistols and let me say i never heard of this tool. My range bag usually has a leatherman signal and some of the best tools made in the USA Chapman MFG. Ottherwise very informative video.
That tool is a very nice size.....a lot of potential. Can't wait to see you disassemble it...and put in better implements...Keep blade...ditch everything else. Be interersting to see if Leatherman or Victorinox tools will fit. Better saw, file....91 mm Victorinox scissors,....maybe the awl from Farmer Alox that goes on the side of frame...a bit driver with a double sided bit...straight and phillips..... A tool this size / weight could be ideal...
Well, I (was) going to be (helpful) and point out that the tool configuration signifies that this is more of an armorer's or CCW EDC tool, but this has been clearly communicated over the vast (and often unnecessarily rude) comments section. What I (will) say is mistake or not, thanks for posting this. I was unaware of this tool and will be adding one to my bag. Leopold also makes a tool (similar) to this which I own and is great to have. It doesn't have pliers so the Walther is actually a step up! Cheers!
Back in the day I bought a leather man blast to have a lighter weight tool in my pocket for the summer for the days I wear shorts but was out doors. So I have it still but broke the flat head screw driver off. And I also now have a skelatool as well. So I’m curious to see what you make of it in the future. Also I’m really considering a Power painte as another option for summer because I do wear short a lot for half the year and my surge and super tool 300 are to heavy unless you use a belt. Lol
even though it was conceived as a gun maintenance tool. i would like to see it with a normal edc tool set. it looks really cool and neat as a platform, as you said
Does look like it would do a good job at cleaning a gun. But it’s weird that they wouldn’t put a punch or 2 in there. One small enough for a roll pin and one slightly thicker one
This is really cool but like u said, u know what u are talking about. Can you make a video of it with your custom tools in it? Would really apreciate a scissor, bit holder or just removing the rest.
I miss my juice’ good flathead and variety of flathead sizes. I bought the powerpint on the obsessive suggestion. Meh. We’lol see if the juice goes back in the pocket.
I have not seen a multitool that is worth carrying. The closest I've seen is the ones made with tool change out as a feature, but those usually cost enough for me to find better ways to spend that money, with Knipex being one of those things I feel is a better use of my money.
With a better set of tools the Walther would be a famtastic lightweight option for summer carry. If I am not carrying a Wave, Free Series, or Surge a modified SOG Powerpint is the small tool of choice. I find it to ne the smallest tool that "works".
With current toolset it's kind of useless for non-gun person. I feel like the only possible way is to though away all implements and try to squeeze bit exchanger to one handle and scissors + leatherman combo bottle/can opener and wire stripper + #11 blade exchanger all together to second handle.
Wow, we have some seriously passionate Walther fans.

What is the next tool model you were comparing this too?
Thanks for the info Dom, Budget HVAC has some great finds.
When it comes to EDC, the Leatherman Skeletool is perfect in my opinion. --- pliers, screwdriver and blade. Nothing useless added.
This one is far to small for that..but even if you could..bit drivers can't get into recessed areas.
I do use a multi tool often. But I still carry the leatherman wave.
Hmm, interesting design and certainly a good starting point for improvements as you've stated. It'll be nice to see what you come up with.
Great review and lost opportunity on Walther's part. Hopefully they'll take your advice and make some changes quick.
I want , I want! 😂. Looks awesome.
Its interesting that Walther is making multi tools.... now.... will they remake the WA2000?
You being into multitools what is a good one for just bushcraft? I dont need screwdrivers ect. Something with pliers and cutter too make snares.
Hmm, swisstool spirit maybe? Or I'd say ST300/Rebar
@@maxlvledc The rebar seems best for me. Thanks.
Hi! Great video, I really like the foundations of the tool as well and I was curious if you were planning on making an update video for when you mod it?
Not being a gun guy I´m still intrigued by that little hook notch at 2.33. What's the purpose? Cleaning?
Spring puller
ah, ok. I like dedicated multitools for different activites. That's so cool and fun @@T-Mo_
That toy is adorable. The fastener diameter gauge is hilarious. I don't even want a free one. Tiny tools are bad enough without being nearly useless.
Would be cool if they emptied one side and put in a driver with interchangeable bits. Then the other side could have a blade, scissors and potentially an awl. I think weight would take a minor hit by that’s fine.
I’d be interested on this if it had those tools you said. 3d Phillips, prybar flat head and a blade
Really good size, but why the blades for gun maintenance.
Lol
The gauge is box end wrenches. Which is ok, but I didn't see any scissors. That's really going to hurt them.
what's the weight if you remove everything but the pliers?
Hard to know, but it's already only 2 oz. So very light.
Did they come up with new?
Have you ever seen Leatherman steens?
even though it was conceived as a gun maintenance tool. i would like to see it with a normal edc tool set. it looks really cool and neat as a platform, as you said
Does look like it would do a good job at cleaning a gun. But it’s weird that they wouldn’t put a punch or 2 in there. One small enough for a roll pin and one slightly thicker one
How often would that gauge come in handy?
beefy 1/4 bit driver, knife, file, prybar, combo opener. saw is nice too for whittling projects in woods. But for street use, not that important.
Very nice comparison and review man!!
What happened to throwing toothpicks and tweezers ... or is it copyrighted
no idea.
I missed the multitool reviews! Great video!
That tool is amazing for firearms cleaning. That's like 90% of a cleaning kit.
This is really cool but like u said, u know what u are talking about.
Can you make a video of it with your custom tools in it?
Would really apreciate a scissor, bit holder or just removing the rest.
When I do, I will
Which one is the one he says is the best but weighs more?
this is what ive been looking for in a multi tool for so loong
the size it great and the grib looks likw my hand wont hurt after
I just wish knipnex just makes their own multitool with their cobra plier head
NO!!!!!! Not a multitool, their plier head with folding handles.
I'll take either of those options
Letherman K4 Free is the knife combo I carry daily.
Looks like a balisong. Pretty cool
Cool tool. I wish it had good scissors like the mini sailor
I miss my juice’ good flathead and variety of flathead sizes. I bought the powerpint on the obsessive suggestion. Meh. We’lol see if the juice goes back in the pocket.
Would this be a tool specific to their firearms?
well..sort of..its 7 implements but only 2 are gun specific.
I have not seen a multitool that is worth carrying. The closest I've seen is the ones made with tool change out as a feature, but those usually cost enough for me to find better ways to spend that money, with Knipex being one of those things I feel is a better use of my money.
Cut your nails with nail clippers… that’s a file or metal burrs , Good review, right tool right job .
