- Since Sir Alex Ferguson left the Premier League, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have been the two dominant forces in English football. As Jurgen says auf wiedersehen and speculation rises around Pep’s future, the lack of an obvious successor is apparent.
In this week’s episode Simon, Graeme and Troy will be taking a look at which managers are next in line to take over from the best in the game. Whether that be up-and-coming talents like Mikel Arteta and Xabi Alonso, established veterans like Unai Emery and Thomas Tuchel or wildcards like Zinedine Zidane.
They will also explore the characteristics that define an ‘elite’ manager, whilst discussing the reputation of British coaches and their lack of success at the top end of the Premier League table.

Facts
*GRIFTER*
What Simon says at 19:23 about Arteta going to Everton is just not true at all. He has literally done that exact said thing at Arsenal, with different circumstances and financial backing of course, but still the main point stands. I don't think anyone other than Arsenal fans realise how much of rut our club was in when Emery got sacked and Arteta took over. The attendance in Emery's final game tells the story of how truly bad it was at the time. Arteta slowly had to purge out all the bad seeds at the club and has had to set foundations in slowly to completely rebuild the club. I'm not saying Arteta can go to any struggling club in the world and replicate what he's done at Arsenal, but his ultimate mission was to get us back challenging for titles again and he has done that and that itself should be highly regarded.
🤦🏽♂️😂😂🤣🤣🤣 what waffle..
Troy Deeney trying to look hard claiming he was working 22 hours a day, only for it to get lost amongst a tangent 😂
Xabi Alonso would find it very difficult competing against Pep. Arteta is elite for going toe to toe with the best manager in the world
No chance. Arteta's the biggest spending manager itw since being appointed. Won zilch with his own squad - average at best
@Contextualiser16-tn8nd Silly comment. The turnaround needed the spending but you still have to buy the right players and create the right culture. So many teams spent money and are nowhere near competing.
@lowrider995- he's evidently not done that given the yield of 0 trophies with his own amazing squad
@Contextualiser16-tn8nd What? He evidently has turned the club into title contenders again. He's done a fantastic job. Now it's time to deliver some trophies. Still better than most other clubs in the premier league.
Eddie Howe is elite. The job he did with Bournemouth and his pursuit of excellence and impact at Newcastle is next level
Jordan will never say anything good about Howe. He dislikes Howe as a person and hates Newcastle so There is no way he'll ever say anything positive about Howe. Ever. What Howe did at Bournemouth was staggering and then taking Newcastle from bottom of the league to Champions League in 12 months was ignored by the media and especially by people like Jordan.
Simon’s next interviews should be with
1- Thomas Tuchel
2- Antonio Conte
3- Arsene Wenger
Let’s see how he fares in these interviews.
These discussions are good, keep them within an hour unlike what we're seeing elsewhere and this is easily gold

Simon Jordan is unparalleled in his role; he fearlessly asks the tough questions
Simon the Hitman Jordan
Yeah ask John Terry and bridgegate
except when he's talking to John Terry...
Never mentioned the Wayne Bridge situation and skirted around the Anton Ferdinand situation as well.
Big Troy always sounds like he has a cold.
Like he's pinching his nose when talking!
Needs to be on a lemsip advert

@@bigduphusaj162 nah, I’m happy for this show to be here but they should still keep Simon’s interview. They can easily do two shows a week

Great stuff guys
Love the banter great chemistry between the three guys
'The next city manager will succeed.' 'Why?' 'Because they've got great players.' 'Ok.'
Scintillating
Brilliant, a longer episode
Fantastic show
Another good episode 👍. I’d like to learn more about the priority process in signing new players - is talent the #1 requirement, or work ethic or mental toughness?
great stuff
the stare Souness gives Simon when he takes the mick out of his managerial career is priceless
Simon Jordan - ELITE
Graeme Souness - ELITE
Troy Deeney - Championship level footballer with a permanent cold
Haha yes how have I just seen this for the first time he DOES always have a cold 😂
I'm sorry, how does owning a Championship club, for the most part, make one elite. He and Troy operated at the same level in their respective fields.
Deeney couldn't last more than a few weeks managing objectively the worst professional football club in the country.
Columbian flu?
Racist
Love your show guys, keep it up! Such big opinionated personalities, something that is diminishing nowadays.
My one stop shop if I want a football take on anything. A player, an owner, a manager. All angles covered. They know their onions.
They don't. Especially Simon, he's just a professional contrarian
@@moluther2826 with respect I disagree. When you look at the layout and the direction of travel of the pundit sector, and price in the characters that are in it, I think you’re left with a very different picture.
@user-si3rc4ut8s This was a phenomenal impression. Sounds so Jordan, but isn't a direct quote. Kudos to you, sir.
Do more interviews....this format has been done better by others and is done to death.
100 views in an hour.. The Troy Deeney effect.
Great set of pundits. Love Troy Deeney!!!
Another question is ownership and how it has changed. Clubs who’s owners have other major commitments stretches their hemispheric approach towards their club. In recruitment or commercial services and identity and politics which at times puts the clubs as a mere part of a larger scheme of events
These are very hard to watch. Bring back a new interview every thursday
Well don’t watch then.
@fullspeedaheadbarcelona6502 I'm a fan of the channel I just want to see interviews come back as do many others

I think you should be setting proper parameters for "elite coach".
A successful coach doesnt necessarily mean an elite one, and sometimes they do go hand in hand.
Im my humble opinion i think if a coach has his team in and amongst it consistently and has a real understanding of tactics and a gameplan, and/or can adapt to more expensive opposition, and shows can consistent progression, that would fall under elite.
Xabi Alonso for sure
I like this trio
brilliant lineup owner , manager, player
How do you rate Brendon Roger and Big Ange guys?
Just like players managers need confidence and there is a fine line between accountability and lack of confidence by the questions put forth.
I believe with the modern increase of levels of administrative personnel the management or the coach is the easiest scapegoat.
Another point is there is only a handful of clubs who can win the major trophies and if one cannot manage an elite club they are evidently less likely to be an elite manager.
27:37 'aint got a scooby'
Fair play to Troy, no hesitation!!
How do you not mention Eddie Howe when talking British Managers? The highest placed British manager the last two seasons.
The disrespect to Eddie Howe is unreal
Overrated relegation pro
What about Howe?
22 hours a day?
I would suggest if, 3 upfront Martin O’Neil & Paul Ince
Simon actually goes easy on "his mates" lol.
isn't Eddie Howe a British manager in a top half team in the Premiere League....🤔
this is basically the overlap reserves team
Emery is ELITE!
unai emery - taking villa to multiple league titles and champions leagues - it's already written in the stars
Surely Howe could well come under this bracket
Not a single mention
@@Stretcharmstrong_ the smuggery and snobbery is farcical amongst these 🤡🤡
Howe is nowhere near that level
@@user-nf4yv8xk4z What is an Elite manager someone who has had a bottomless pit to spend like people mentioned??

Turn the microphones off
what souness says about zidane, not taking a job with at a smaller club, can be thrown at pep...... yet pep is an elite manager?
Exactly...and Zidane has won la liga and 3 UCLs.... Even pep just about won 3 UCLs....
Hypocrisy. All you'd expect from people that smell their own farts
Pep has changed football as we know it.
@@zaidahmed95272 La Ligas, people forget he also coached a Madrid team in transition in the 2020 season and won all 9 cup finals throughout his time at the club.
Sure he had a great team for most of his run but he also won a lot.
@@De3dSh0t agreed...pundits are just rubbish these days..
As if you said David Moyes is the only British manager not working at the bottom , Eddie Howe doing a great job at Newcastle
Gary O'Neil Thomas frank are both very much capable ❤
Graeme’s face at 9:22 😂
Because Jordan made a stupid comment as usual
Stupid or truthful?
Its hard for any manager in the Premier league to become elite by the standards of winning things because of thee most elite manager in pep. The most you can hope for at the minute is to get close to them.
Ten Hag isn't elite yet he's won 2 trophies in 2 years
How does Alonso only get a 10 second mention?
What’s with the breaks? There’s no adverts🤦♂️🤦♂️just looks daft
There is elswhere
Three Up Front drinking challenge: do a shot every time you hear the word ‘pivot’, see if you can make it to the end of the show without requiring a stomach pump.
Liverpool have the business model of a transfer committee and a Director of Football !!!!!!
Gary O’Neil
The flaw in Souness' claim that success occurs when decisions are made by 'football people' is that he only considers the cases when the football people are successful - Wenger, Ferguson. He does not consider the times when 'football people' mismanage clubs, buy bad players and bankrupt clubs.
My favourite moment was when Simon Jordan thought he had a brainwave with the whole Statistics vs Facts argument. Stats are literally just a way to represent the facts. They're codependent.
Troy! Again? Fs
Kieran Mckenna
It’s really not working this bring back upfront with Simon jordan.
Tuchel needs a smaller club where he can get complete control
Arteta is the next pep
Minus the trophies
😂😂😂😂
Arteta, Alonso!
Why is Legohead being mentioned in the same breath as Alonso?
THats true the structure doesnt quite work. Arteta started aas a coach and very swiftly Arsenal made him a manager because he had to be able to call the shots
You have to give credit to Arteta, Most of the players he has now weren't "good enough" players to help Arsenal compete, he changed that by getting rid of the so called "best players" at the time in Auba and Ozil and retaining the "not so good" players, look at them now, I say he's the model manager and Coach, am still pissed off about Ramsdale but at this point, let him(Arteta) cook.
Look at them now? Zero trophies since ditching the best players
Who let them cookkkkkkkk🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Its harder to create, then to destroy
Its like when kroos is sold by real madrid, or just leaves, real madrid will not have that player that was most important in them winning all these champions leagues all this past decade, since barcelona cycle ended in 2015.
Teams are more then just managers, but its upto to managers to understand how football works in terms of humans, and create a situation where there team can compete.
The next city manager winning will depend on how he sees the players he has got, and can he redo them in his image of what a team is, and whether he can keep the cycle of winning going, or will it end with who ever that is.
Winning cycles have many many factors, and every new generation of humans brings a new way of looking at things, and analysing based on there world view and intelligence.
Up front not 3 up front. Thank you
Does Troy have a constant cold?
Is Souness still going back to it? Is Simon pricing it in? Is Deeney still talking about his sentence for knicking a freddo frog? Stay tuned to find out.
If these views get any lower then youtube will demote them. A massive kick in the face for Jordan
Who the f. Put Dyche in contention😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
A waste of 40 mins of my life! Waiting to hear about these upcoming managers. Mentioned Alonso for 5 seconds. Didn’t talk about Motta, Michel, Slot, etc. It’s obvious that these pundits only watch one league. Clueless!
And don’t forget the time it took to write your comment 😂
@@adamkoz6358 😂
😂😂😂 thought this was a skit. These 3 discussing who is the next elite manager writes itself
Simon Jordan: I think back to when I bought Crystal Palace, I look at the general overarching direction of travel in the football management sector, and the characters that make up a part of it, who for me don’t have the chops, then if you price in the development of football over the last 20 or so years, give or take, I’d take that every day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
Troy Deeney: I play Watford, innit.
I suppose there is a reason why Kompany can get relegated with Burnley and land a job at Bayern, while Dyche isn’t even top 50 on such a list. Dyche at City? Come on
Daniel Levy with Jose Mourinho or Conte too many conflicting personalitites in the same room
Simon really hates Eddie Howe doesnt he
Emery has been around a while good cup manager not so much a league manager apart from PSG Arteta is the next Pep in my opinion iniola at a bigger club could do well Xavi Alonso will come to the premier league I think and I think he would be a great fit at Man Utd in the next 18 months 2 years it all depends on how much they have to spend and the situation at the club with the likes of O’Neil Dyche good manager but not a top 4 manager also if Man City are not on -30 points at the start of next season it’s disgusting in my opinion if they get off with the FFP case again but in my opinion Arteta is the up an coming elite manager in the premier league in my opinion I think pep will leave in the next few years once KDB Walker Stones and Silva leave they are a great team but the core of it is getting on in age
Ancelotti was more of a Cup manager until fairly recently. 5 of his 6 League titles have come after 2009
Last year 'Arsenal would not challenge City again'. This year; 'Arsenal will win it next year'. Mr 'All or Nothing' Simon.
Troy is so dense it’s unreal - where is Oodinay?!🤦♂️
Arteta can do a job at EVERTON Pep im not so sure 👍
Because Everton is Legohead's level while City/Barcelona is Pep's
He’s won nothing outside of a FA cup so Arteta has won something so tells you how Simon perceives Arteta which is from a negative 🤷🏾♂️
Very ham
Winning trophies vs who?
Get rid of deeney and bring in KEANO then you have a mega show
Keane wouldn't come on this, too small fry for him.....
Moyes, Mark Hughes, Potter, Hodgson, Southgate, Lampard & Gerrard. All British managers who have fairly recently been given a chance in the biggest jobs in the country. All (to different extents) have failed. They get the chance and don’t take it.
This notion that Liverpool hasn't spent money is BS, Net Spend is BS as well.. Liverpool sold Philippe Continho for like £142 million ponds so add that to their Net Spend and so their spending goes up.quite a lot and without that they probably wouldn't have got Alisson or van Dijk and prices now are different to what they were in 2015 so if you are building a team now you ae generally going to more spending that one would started building their team in 2015 and has also sold good players since too so their outgoings is good too.
All Arteta does is copy Pep.
People have short memories and forget that he was a mediocre player, signed as a replacement for Fabregas at 1/3 the cost, and was a 1/3 the player - after a year Van Persie had had enough and put in a transfer request, and that was the start of the end for Wenger.
If a manager has won a domestic league title. (Not a domestic cup) and any European title in their career. They should be classed as elite.
That’s a perfect metric for elite manager.
This looks like it was recorded in a dungeon. Why is everything so dark and gloomy? It looks depressing but then i listen to Deeney and realize it IS depressing.
Do you think Graeme would downplay his own achievements if he’d have won what Pep and Zidane won? Not sure on his judgment he thinks there’s any elite managers there. Graeme Souness certainly wouldn’t win the league as man city manager
No english manager in the top half of the table? Im sorry does eddie howe not exist anymore?
Re Player power, and tail wagging the dog. - That is simply down to weak owners. If the Board, say (of the manager) "This is our Manager, we back them 100%" - Then it knee caps this sometimes toxic attitude you see at Clubs. No one is going against Klopp at Liverpool, they'd be gone. No one is going against Guardiola, or Arteta or in the past Wenger or Ferguson. The difference now, is Owners/Boards, do not back the manager.
They made Jordan add diversity. So transparent and obvious.
So true. Like this world needed more Scottish opinion on the business of football.
What's wrong with diversity?
