    I helped the development with the PWM. In karting, in the early 1990's the "top" carb was the Del orto 39 JM racing was selling for a small fortune. But, they didn't show you their set up as it was a very complicated carb. Keihn was pushing their PWK for Karting. The fuel on the PWK dropped out of atomization too quickly when you got off the throttle and it took too long to get back to atomization when you got on.
    The PWM was close to being a flat slide, but retained the radius on the front of the slide allowing the fuel to "cone" into the crankcase and keep the fuel in an atomized state more adequately. The radius on the back side of the slide allowed the main circuit to be closer to the piston then the PWK. That was the basis of the first PWM carburetor. Our GP 125cc roadracing team was a close to the Keihin USA so
    they showed up one day to check out the shop. They discovered I had been EDMing their 36mm carbs to an oval"ish" shape and patching up the holes where the EDM burnt through! We had set the 125cc A Gas and B Gas land speed records with one of those carbs! And after showing their tech why it worked on my Flow Bench...well, that's how our short collaboration began. In the late nineties I went back to school and finished my physics degree. I miss the 125cc scene. It was fun testing all of the modifications. I have heard there are no more modifying 125 CR engines. That is sad to hear. The Honda was a bulletproof platform. There is a lot of horsepower begging to come out of that engine.

      Hello sir, maybe you can help me with a simple doubt. I got a Vortex 125 engine which was used in competition some years ago, along with a Mikuni slide carb type.
      I want to swap this carb for a CV carb type to have a smoother throttle response. Could you mention some of the models used in 125 competition karts? Best regards

    • @stevesolo16
      @stevesolo16 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@designspm The vortex engine uses a relitivly small 30mm carb due to the engines effeciency. Give any dealer a call and they should be able to get you the correct carb and set it up properly. When I was racing we ran Honda 125's with PWM 38's. But the new Vortex is a different animal.

      @@stevesolo16 hello sir, which of these three carburetor: PWK, PWM, PJ has the potential to have the highest top end power?
      assuming the size of the venturi is the same... Things related to response, idle, and others are ignored

      I EDMed a 36 and 38 Keihn I I used Morroso putty to fill in the places where the holes poked through. I then grounded the excess putty. They both worked, but not liked we hoped. The PWM worked right out of the box. The trick to make the PWKM sing is to use a needle from the old Honda RS 125
      The 94 and 95, to the best of my relocation was the needle I used.
      I miss the 125 scene too. It was what racing is all about!

    Great video bro been working on a 36mm pwk just got it back in a 22 beta rr (pain in arse to get out) then watched your video, thought no way going to have to take it off again which would’ve been a major pain in arse but listened for that metal on metal at the top and thank god it made the right sound😅, never even noticed that notch too worried about getting the float level right as it was pissing out fuel before, plus the oil injected thingy majig put back right,😅 but yeah keep making content, straight to point no messing keep it up my American brother 🇬🇧🇺🇸

      For the tight clearance, Motion Pro makes a nice 90 degree and 45 degree cable. When using this style cable, you always need to double check correct slide operation when removing and installing the slide and slide top. It is very easy to accidentally change slide travel when threading directly into the cap.
      Thank you for the feedback, we have been working extensively with these carbs since the 1990's.

    • @Swedetechracing
      @Swedetechracing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The carb is designed to be placed vertical, with the floats at the bottom. The more angle you have away from vertical towards horizontal, you will run into carburation issues. Based on your description, it sounds ok. The carb also wants to be as straight as possible when it comes to the tilt when looking at it from behind.

      @@Swedetechracing - maybe develop some videos on blueprinting or development work on the SKUSA 20.3.2.1 CR125R engines and the IAME X30 TaG engines. For example, are you allowed to perform grinding and polishing on the cylinder to bring those dimensions to those listed on page 3 of the TaGX30 rulebook ?

    • @Swedetechracing
      @Swedetechracing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For any type of racing, always read and know the rulebook before doing anything. If there is a question on a rule or interpretation, always contact the head tech director in writing to ask for clarifications. Creating engine building content that educates someone on engine building is a tough proposition for Swedetech. Our business model is to provide those services at a high level and quality. The videos we provide start with the most frequently asked questions in which we expect the customer to be able to perform.

    I have a problem with my KTM 250 2T
    The tool has not been used for almost a year
    This week I found time to take care of it, I did a fuel-oil change, I cleaned the filter plug, everything, finally I tried to start it, but the car could not start.
    It only started with carburetor spray and shut off straight away
    From that I understood that the carburetor needed to be cleaned and that's how I did it.
    Now the problem is different, the motorcycle drives straight up to very, very high turns
    I played with the air-fuel screw but unfortunately it didn't help.
    Is there a situation where the problem is different? Something in the carburetor maybe? need help pleases tool,

    Whats the different between pwk n pwm??any major.different?

    • @Swedetechracing
      @Swedetechracing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Without getting into the deep specifics, physical differences include different body and throttle bore lengths, slide designs, and internal fuel circuits are different. The PWM has a throttle / idle circuit combined. The PWK it is seperate.
      Generally the PWM carburetor works well with engines that require throttle response and power from the mid range to the top end. While the PWK with the longer carb body tract favors an engine or application that requires better throttle response on low rpms and throttle position.
      In karting, we use the PWM and PWK on the Honda CR125 engines adapted to sprint kart and enduro racing. Most favor the PWM for the power deliver range for that application. Many of our oval Outlaw Kart or Unlimited All Star karts prefer the use of the PWK for low end advantage.

      Khairul, I posted a brief comment on the practical reason why the PWM made its way into the world of 2-stroke racing. I don't feel the desire to share the physics behind the original circuitry in a blog style forum. However, I think the answer to your question should be satisfactory in my brief post. Cheers! BTW: the name Khairul means; a man with an unending reach for knowledge. In the world of racing I think your parents were wise beyond their formative years! • @Swedetechracing
      @Swedetechracing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The choke has a built in idle circuit. If you look at the top of the choke valve, it has an arrow indicating open. Turn the knob clockwise until it stops, this is closed. Rotate counterclockwise 30 clicks. Start there for idle. If you are between 30-40 clicks and you still don't have idle, move to the pilot jet. If this doesn't work for idle, contact a local reputable shop familiar with tuning your particular engine and application so they can give you a baseline on jetting

    I hate this carb on my YZ250. Just won't idle.

      The idle circuit isn't independent on this carburetor, it is built into the choke circuit. For our racing applications, we do not use the idle function, but we have some customers that do. In order to have the carb idling, start your air screw 1 turn out. Then, turn the choke knob clock wise until it stops. This is fully closed. Next, turn the chock knob counter-clockwise to 30 clicks. If it still doesn't idle, open in 5 click increments. If you are between 40-45 clicks with no idle, check to see if your jetting is correct for your riding conditions and re-try.

    My slide has a bit of play and makes a click noise if i press on it or open throttle a tiny bit. Is this normal? Heres a video of the issue.

    4 minutes to talk about two little details on a carburetor. The other 6 minutes and 36 seconds were spent mumbling about caffeinated shaking hands, camera focus, and shit that doesn't matter. Cut out the BS and your videos will have more views. But hey, I guess Swedetech doesn't make its money from TH-cam. It makes it from it's expensive parts. P.S. I love my fuel system for my cr125. It works wonders and has never flooded. Oh, my flywheel cover is sick too.

      We appreciate the feedback. We will continue to work on our quality and content of our videos. Regarding expensive fuel systems, talk to the racing associations who make the rules. The GFS was developed to fix a major problem karters face by being forced to use parts and equipment for motorcycles.

      editors note: i love the fuel system and was only joking about high prices. if people want the best, they'll just have to pay for it. muah!!!

      I don't care if Jason is caffeinated or even methed out of his damn mind; he and Reine been a huge help to me personally with my karting journey. Quality and service always worth paying a little more for, and the best of the best normally goes hand in hand with quirkiness in any category in business or life.

      Caffeinated, likely a little too much. Methed out, not in this shop.
