The Supercharged 3800 Fiero Lost Boost! (Why???)

- The SC 3800 Fiero lost over half of its boost. This happened with no warning - and of course we can't have that! So we started troubleshooting the low boost issue immediately - and I thought you might want to tag along as we diagnose & fix the issue!

Thanks for the video I got the same issue with my Monte Carlo SS I got negative boost and the max it would go is 0, could it still be the boost line for the supercharger or what do you think I should do?
I don't think we have the same issue. I was getting some boost, but not all of it.
@@Toys4Life I only got to 0 boost on my gauge, I believe I narrowed it down to the coupler.
@IanTRK usually they just wear and make noise, but I suppose yours could have disintegrated.
@@Toys4Life I pulled it out it looked okay and didn't wobble or anything, should I still replace it?
@IanTRK It's a $20 part. Do you know how old the old one is? How much work was it to get out? They can look pretty decent but still make a rattling noise which is annoying. Your call.

I can vouch for the catastrophic failure of a roots supercharger. :( Heading to fedex as I type this to send mine off lol. Don't even get me started on the cost of shipping these days! Glad you got it sorted out on the Fiero Toys!
I'm confused, if one of your rods let go, how did that take out your supercharger?
@@Toys4Life Sorry toys I totally forgot to reply to this. I saw your comment this morning on the HPS brakes video and I was like oh crap. Anyhooters, so what happens is when the pistons shatter and it punches holes in the block because the rods break this allows air to enter the engine internally even though the throttle body is now closed. The engine continues to run by taking air in through the cylinders with missing pistons and the other 6 cylinders vacuum all the debris out of the broke cylinders and since the throttle body is closed this opens the bypass valve in the blower wide open channeling debris back trough the intake ports of the busted cylinders directly into the inlet of the blower into the rotorpack through the rotor pack and through the whole entire motor. There is even pieces of piston in every remaining cylinder as the blower is an open chamber down the sides of the blower case feeding piston pieces into all remaining intake valves. I probably did a terrible job of explaining that but unfortunately it is a very common phenomena when PD blower engines break a piston in combination with a hole in the block. As much as I want to deny it I've talked to a bunch of guys with more experience than I and they all agree that this thing more than likely butted the rings which stops the piston dead in it's tracks and it ripped the wrist pins clean out of the pistons.

At least it's good that they designed it to fail open, on my car the boost control solenoid can fail shut the way it's used stock.
Makes me wonder how many people drive around not really knowing there's is broken. Stock boost is like six and a half pounds or so I wonder what it would drop down to, two psi?

I have, I went out to a test and tune just a few days ago it was kind of hot but at least we got some tuning in. Look for a video soon!
I have a 97 riviera that seems way down on power compared to the regal and park ave. I previously owned. So just plug the vacuum side?
No, plug the low side that comes in from the solenoid to the canister that holds the diaphragm.
What kind of cluster do you have? How you mod that?
97 Regal GS. See vid on my channel - 3 unique fiero mods. I did it all custom. I didn't want 28 year old gages in my car - plus I have had Fiero's forever and needed a change!

Before even watching I'm guessing the bypass valve is staying open.
Close. Not staying open but opening when it shouldn't.
Yep, solenoid valve must be leaking providing boost to get through and open up the bypass. Simple fix and back to full boostville!

You cheat the ecu hehe, but the problem would still be there
