I'm just starting to play Pentiment now. My favorite thing about it so far is that it highlights how ordinary life has pretty much always been ordinary life, it doesn't feel sort of alien like a lot of attempts at historical fiction do (the alternative usually being something that feels familiar because it's deeply ahistorical).
I wish I had found this video back when it came out! I was very lucky to play this game while in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany while I was there for work last year. I thought it was quite impressive then, but this video is making me want to jump back in for a new playthrough. Your excitement is contagious and makes me so happy to see!
I just have to say, THANK YOU for recommending this game to me. I've been a history nerd my whole life and didn't even know that this game existed until you recommended it at PAX East. Now, after having completed several playthroughs, I've come to get all the extra context that I lack because I'm not a /medieval/ history nerd and, I have to say, after just one episode, I'm not disappointed. 😁
Y'know, I find it interesting that the guy running the abbey's scriptorum is giving Andreas esoteric books of magic and a book full of sexy short stories. I can see the abbey having copies, but for a monk to specifically encourage reading them is surprising.
Funny that as soon as he sees Prestor John he starts talking about Saint Maurice, only for him to also enter the story later on.
This is such a wonderful video. I'm enjoying your passion and happiness playing this game!! Looking forward to following your entire playthrough
You know Josh Sawyer watched your stream and was very happy to see that you got all the references right. Awesome playthrough btw
I did! He posted on twitter that day about somebody opening jstor to factcheck the game and I was like "HMMM"

This game owns so goddamn hard, Josh Sawyer don’t miss

About to watch, this feels like a golden video concept!
I got this game last night and from the open credits alone I was SURE this was your type of game.
Nerd hours here we go!
Personally, I think people buy this game only for the marginalia.
