OMG, you did a Tool song, I was SOOO hyped to see this notification in my email, I could NOT WAIT to click! Awesome reaction and breakdown. Maynard is one of my favorite male vocalists. I like to karaoke, well, love to, and doing Tool tunes is the highlight of my night. You HAVE to see them live, they are amazing. They are true musicians, they're not members of a rock band, they take their art, their craft, very seriously, and it comes through in their live shows.
Man, thanks for all the rock/metal videos as of late, it's fascinating. Love your stuff but k-pop isn't my thing lol. Keep at it and best of luck with the channel!
Err. Yes it can. It can quite easily be classified as both rock and metal, due to them having songs fitting both genres. They do fit better in on the metal genre.
So maynard didn't use to turn his back or hide during his shows like this one as it is an older show he now hides himself in the dark from the lighting as one reddit poster explains it: Why is Maynard kept in the dark while on stage? His lighting guy told me this. ...Posted this in another thread, but I thought it might be worth sharing with other tool fans. I worked a show a while ago that a Perfect Circle was headlining, and I spoke at length with the lighting director. I don't remember his name, but he had worked with Maynard in tool as well as APC. This was during the Thirteenth Step tour, Year of the Rabbit was the opener. I voiced the question: Why keep him in the dark? The band was using almost the same stage setup, Maynard was upstage left on a riser next to Freese's kit. The answer I got was interesting, and I remember seeing an interview where he spoke about it, so I think it's the truth. Apparently Maynard has an eye issue which manifests itself in a sensitivity to bright lights and flashes. It got so bad that it came close to ending his ability to perform live. When the lights get flashing and really going, it causes an almost vertigo-ish reaction that can lead to his passing out. And that would be bad. But I remembered watching the show and seeing some really awesome moving, flashing lights, which would seem to counter what the lighting guy had just told me about. He saw my puzzled look and explained further how it works. Maynard had a signal to tell the lighting guy if it was too much, and if it was ok to hit it. His microphone stand. If it got to be too much, Maynard would move his mic stand to the front corner of his riser, and once the feelings passed, he should remove it, to signal all systems go. That, and he wears sunglasses, which helps. This essentially meant that the lighting designer had to have two shows written before the tour started, that could be blended back and forth, so he could disk back the intensity of what was hitting Maynard's eyes while still keeping up the consistency of the light show for the audience. (Spoiler, concert lights are not improvised at the show, sorry... I guess some people didn't know that. Weeks and weeks of planning and programming involved there). I thought that was damn interesting.
@daimon hellstrom You literally don't know if his story is true or isn't. You have your own fucking truth and you take it as gospel without confirmation just like him.
Maynard has always been one of those voices to me, like Chino Moreno, where intentionally sounding slightly off works. Most can't pull it off and only end up sounding off key or flat. Them coming together for the Deftones song Passenger is just amazing.
I just told my husband about this video and he was like "Maynard is ALWAYS off key." Would not accept that he isnt... I'm just confused why he doesn't understand
Yes! And if he likes Maynard i KNOW he will love Layne Staley if he gives him a try. He’s my favorite singer ever. And being a trained singer myself (not that I’m amazing or anything but I have a good ear and picky ), I’m a tough sell
It was quite the weekend I can tell you. Think I then saw them with Helmet supporting, or the other way round, back when they were pre-video screens etc. in a small club. www.readingfestival.com/history/reading-1993
I was at that Reading gig when I was 18. Down the front. A quarter century later and I was listening to the new Tool album in the car this afternoon wondering when all my hair went white. :)
And what an awesome thing it is to have musicians like Tool who can feed your soul for decades. I owe so much to so many artists in so many genres from David Bowie to Gojira to Tool to Dead Kennedys to Nine Inch Nails to Seether to Elvis Costello to Warren Zevon and so many more. The language of music is far more powerful than language.
@Talk Sick bullshit.he's a jackassed pretentious rockstar asshole that used to do coke and acid and all the basic shit like anybody else.the myths you tool fans create are pathetic.smh.like they're a bunch of shamans.lmao nope.just four guys getting a kick out of suckers paying to see them and buy their merch.
@@jasonsheline6610 lol yup.. its funny when drugs come up in interviews Maynard always denies or somehow moves past that question of has he or the band "experimented" drugs. There was interview w him and Adam and when Adam said something about doing acid Maynard said never we've never done drugs... lol they're just covering their asses, orr just doesn't want to talk about those days bc they were probably really personal idk..
I have had the opportunity of seeing Tool live, one of the greatest concerts I have ever been to. Sam, if you get the chance, go see them, whether its Tool, Puscifer or A Perfect Circle.
It's pretty cool to hear someone putting the way Maynard's voice makes me feel, into words. From a technical perspective. Just an unbelievably amazing artist. Great video!
@@Sid00077 I've always thought the same. But now recently there was this drama in the makeup community which brought up the cpm which different genres and amount of subscribers and all included bring to the channel. So I'm not sure anymore. Some ads you get trough faster when you visit the site, so I do that.
LOL, @Chad Ryan, MJK doesn't do drugs, he drinks wine. He has a vinyard. Although, the song DOES say, "Why can we NOT be sober?" he never mentions getting high in any of his work (instead, some of his songs, like Ænemia, lambast people who get high."
@@KitWriter Never talk about getting high? Have you heard third eye? Or any of a perfect circle's "thirteenth step?" I am not completely sure of Maynard's stand on drugs, but he has sung quite a lot about getting high man, and furthermore being addicted to getting high. I don't think this guy would help write an entire album about getting off drugs if he hadn't had some experience with addiction. Also, alcohol is drug, so yeah.
I've honestly never really listened to Tool before. Wow! He sounds fantastic and so steady and easy through his range! Would you consider the Foo Fighters? I love me some Dave Grohl.
I agree Maynard's got amazing "tone" and vocal control. He doesn't strain on the high notes. He doesn't strain unless he wants to. I don't think he became more comfortable with the audience over time though. When I saw him in 1996 he was expressive, marching around in a circle and facing the audience sometimes without really making eye contact. When I saw him 10 years later he was "in the shadows" like they wanted to replace the band with lights. Thanks for your unique analysis.
Keep getting recommend your videos. Tool has been my favorite band since the 90s so you know im gonna click. Good job. Maynard's voice has always been legendary.
I've always loved his performance in this song, because it sounds almost strained but not, and I comes across as desperation, which fits the theme of the song perfectly.
I subscribed after 1 minute of the first video I watched of yours. Love how technical you are with your explanations, while at the same time making it easy for those of us who are not classically trained to understand. Congratulations on your growing viewer base...you definitely deserve it.
I’m with you, Denise - loved Sam’s technical tho relaxed approached from the get go. Keep at it, Sam. Might have to get some of your coaching insights myself. 🤔🦊🙂
Omg please do one for Layne but one where he gives it. Rooster or man in the box maybe? Even better would be reacting to him in AIC and then react to their glam rock days before getting signed.
Every single time I've seen Tool live they were phenomenal. I've only seen a perfect circle once back with NIN and it was amazing too. I met Maynard while buying some of his wine and the dude was super nice and kind of shy.
Ahhhhhhhh, thank you for this! Please react to A Perfect Circle: "By and Down the River" Live at Red Rocks!!!! It is the BEST live version on YT and Maynard sounds absolutely amazing!!!! OMG I was so excited seeing you react to Tool, I love Tool and A Perfect Circle and Maynard is a true inspiration, I have so much respect and admiration for him!!!!
Sam pleeeeeeeeease react to a Layne Staley vocal piece. Any song by him. A challenging one would be “frogs” from the Alice In Chains unplugged show (personal favorite) I like ur channel but I’m not into all the pop music personally so tool is awesome and if you’d do an occasional grunge (LAYNE!!) or metal (try cemetery gates by pantera to be wowed! ) id be sooo happy. From one singer to another , thank you!!
Michelle Despres definitely a good song but I don’t feel it challenges or showcases his voice anywhere near as much as others. But I do understand why it is a favorite of many people
Wow. I was today years old when I found out that Tool and A Perfect Circle had the same vocalist. I have always liked songs by both bands but never really followed either. But no wonder I like all those songs. What a unique and amazing voice!
Sam, u are such a treat😁 Bouncing around genre's just layers your brilliance!!! I'm so enjoying this ride with u at the wheel & look forward to where it's going!!! Hopefully you'll get around to Pearl Jam Black unplugged, AIC Nutshell & Steel Heart She's Gone acoustic. These are great singers & I can't wait to hear your take on their vocals!!!
That's funny you mention Black, I was literally humming/singing that at work yesterday - Eddie Vedder's voice had gone through so many different stages, dudes been around for decades now, he would definitely be an awesome case study for Sam to break down (some sort of "adapting to changes over time or other events that alter/change/affect your singing voice etc" kind of approach perhaps) Keep it up Sam, your clear, concise explanations & breakdowns are greatly appreciated 👌
HOLY $#*% Stumbled onto this channel just a few days ago enjoyed first video I watched. Then clicked another and you were wearing a Take Note shirt. So had to like the vid for that. And now you just did Tool. Subbed.
MJK from my experience will seemingly always have stage anxiety I’ve seen tool and apc a lot from 1996 until recently and he is always at least off center stage and sometimes is barely even visible with that said still one of my top five bands/artists to see live
It takes a special kind of person to confidently go up in front of 50k+ people and expose a piece of their soul in one of the most intimate ways possible...i for one, could never do it, even if i was a decent singer
Same. I've seen both Tool and APC, he's he's usually off center in the back. Whatever works for him. He did take center to submit a dude and kept singing while on the ground. Priceless...
I'm so jealous...You should take me with you next time!!! 😉 Until recently I've had a boring spouse who didn't want to see them, but wouldn't let me go with anyone else. ☹️ So now that he's gone, I'm going to try to see APC while they're touring (thinking maybe Denver or Austin) and hopefully Tool will tour again in the near future! 😁
I saw at Tool show at the Gorge in Washington. During a song, Maynard was squatting down staring straight through me, mouth open with a completely blank face, while screaming at the top of his lungs. The song was Hooker with a Penis, the scream was on the lyric ass, if you're not familiar check it out. That moment was one of the most surreal amazing things I've ever seen. I've been to about 7 or 8 Tool shows, trust me when I tell you NEVER MISS A TOOL SHOW.
I completely agree! it's more so like the Maynard experience, I've seen APC 3 times and Tool three times and Puscifer once... He is a lyrical genius and his voice is phenomenal, I can not fathom his ability.
YES!!! TOOL!!!! Maynard is such an amazing talent! I've seen him perform twice with A Perfect Circle. The first concert I was completely blown away. He sounds better live than he does on CD. Thanks for covering Tool!
Yay! I was so excited to see you react to Maynard! Tool is my favorite band! Maynard’s voice touches my soul, it’s so ethereal yet powerful. It’s so interesting to hear your analysis of his voice. Thank you!
I love Tool and I think it's cool that you enjoy stuff like that as well. Every single person in the band is great but I think their drummer especially might be the best drummer in the world. He's up there anyway, he used to practice rudimentary drum scales with his feet. And yeah as far as Maynard James Keenan goes he's a character for sure and his voice defines Tool. I saw them live in 2007 or so in Atlantic City and he had this one allegory about eating Spaghetti at one of the restaurants at one of the casinos there. He told the audience he was so full he felt pregnant. "Elvis Pregnant". Only MJK
If he isn't the best, he's definitely top 2. John Bonham maybe? Brann Dailor from Mastodon is unbelievably good as well. Neil Peart. Unbelievable technical ability from all of those drummers.
gojira drummer - Mario Duplander, Dream theater. and many more. my point is that there is no such thing as the best drummer in my opinion. but there are people who are amazing and incredibly talented.
I agree with you there actually, that guy is also extremely good. Sorry, THOSE guys. Both Gojira and Dream Theater's drummers both. But yeah still I think D Carey is a bit above that. He's so good you don't even necessarily always get to see him showcase how good he truly is. Again, Brann Dailor and Danny Carey had a drummer duet thing together for a reason. The new and the old. Literally. And it was just magnificent.
Have you listened to Karnivool or Dead letter Circus at all? Great drummers in both bands. I suggest Karnivool - Set fire to the hive, and Dead letter circus - Space on the Wall

Mad respect, thank you for talking about this particular Maynard performance. I love Maynard's singing style, he's my favorite male vocalist. You explain everything so well and understandably, I've had years of voice lessons, I wish past teachers had explained things as well as you! Your comments are spot on with tone, vowel shape, RHYTHM, all critical things that many teachers have a hard time hearing these issues from students so exactly. Just. Blown away. You're awesome!
YAS! now we are talking... His voice, the way he sings is just amazing. AMAZING. one of my favs. Thank you so so much. Understand how his voice works, is something I always wonder.... Again, another super kind video. Thank you. :3
One thing I've always admired about Maynard James Keenan's voice is how versatile he is with it and you can really hear how much he can do with his range on his other projects such as A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Maynard is still one of my favorite vocalists and it's crazy how with age his voice and technique seems to have gotten better. For example, with A Perfect Circle's new album he does so many techniques with his voice that are amazing and I've never heard him do before on any of his previous albums with A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and Tool. He just continues to BLOW my mind!
Maynard is my all time favorite. I couldn't agree more. I love listening to Puscifer and then going back to Opiate - when Tool were just kids. It is promising to hear how some voices can get better over time.
Oh wow Tool. Tool is one of my favorite bands of all time. I discovered you a couple weeks ago and loved how you expressed your ideas on how singers do what they do mechanically and technically. I've sang all my life and when I was your age I could mimic every single super high pitched rock and roll scream ever uttered by a male vocalist. I wish when I was 17 and I began that journey that you had been alive and making media your knowledge would have been invaluable and saved me hundreds if not thousands of hours of wasted time practicing the wrong things because I didn't know any better. I really enjoyed your short voice warm up, I think you should do a full 15-20 minute warm up video for tenors. I'd love to see, and hear you open your voice all the way and i'd love to sing your warm up with you to open my voice all the way. I'm 44 years old so when I was in my early 20's you probably were a baby still. Finally, you are without a doubt the Voice Teacher with the best ability to explain these complex techniques about singing that I have ever heard to date.
Am I dreaming?? Whoever suggested this live performance from TOOL have my heart this live is everything with this quality 😭😭😭, one of favorite group ever this l, Maynard Keenan James voice is freaking amazing! 🙏🏽 ( I love your video I learn a lot!)
I liked his vocals in Mad Season...even though we didn't see/hear it live, it was still done ins studio by Layne Staley in an incredibly short amount of time. Could have been an incredible super group if addiction hadn't derailed it.
His stage fright technique he's using here is staring at just one person and focusing just on them. He never scans the crowd he focus on over point and that's it.
I am a huge Tool fan, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer (have seen all multiple times beginning in ‘98 with Tool) but am super stoked to see all the love in the comments for Mike Patton. The dude is a freaking human tuning fork and doesn’t ever get enough credit for his abilities! Rock on all you FNM, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, etc. fans!!!! You guys have restored some of my faith in humanity.
Dude what City in 98????? Dallas here. It was my third time to see them and it's still by FAR the most insane, bad ass, WHAT TOOL IS ALL ABOUT, mind-altering (even though I turned down several free offers to partake in psychadelia pre-show extravaganzas but for whatever reason wanted to see what TOOL alone, like, did to my brain and it was MAGICAL), SPIRITUAL show I've ever seen. I've seen a LOT OF BANDS and a lot of EPIC shows in these bands hungry primes and TOOL, FAIR PARK COLISEUM, DALLAS TEXAS, AUGUST 8, 1998 is and will always be the greatest concert I've ever experienced.
Fuck yes! I've been copying Mike forever, and no matter how good I think I am, I hear me some Patton and just throw up my hands and think, "God dammit!" He might be unexplainable. But try to do him anyway! Please!
I have seen Maynard live several times (9 times) and the one takeaway I can say is it absolutely astounding how he can stay connected with his voice yet changes the style and tone for each project. They truly do live on their own respectfully. In Perfect circle he brings it to a vulnerable almost borderline thin level whereas with Tool its constantly connected and grounded with heat and fire on top and thick and with puscifer it's all out whatever the hell he wants to do.my This is such a pleasure to watch and you nailed it. I think I love but not in the stalker creepy way more like the distant admirer way lol. Seriously though keep up the amazing work Sam!
Thanks for doing videos like this! I listen to a lot of different genres of music and I want to learn to sing better in general so learning how singing is applied across different genres is awesome. Also I agree with you saying learn another instrument. I'm a preschool teacher and I play ukulele. It's usually the rhythm chords I'm playing so that helps me find the key of what to sing when I practice other songs (besides yellow submarine.) I find that Pearl Jam, Audioslave, and similiar sound kind of cool on Ukulele. As a woman, ukulele matches my key and range a little better than guitar (though when I play on a friend's guitar I use a capo on 3 or 5.) Anyway thanks for awesome videos, keep it up. Would love to see more rock, metal, alt rock stuff. :)
Found your channel a month back from your reaction videos. I am an aspiring singer. Have been from early teens and have had a little bit of vocal lessons. But i have been practicing almost every day for years. I have performed on stage a few times. Your explanations in these videos have been helping me improve my technique and i am very thankful. I have picked up that i do push a lot of weight on my high notes and while on the most part i can manage it. I have been trying to make it more comfortable. Keep being awesome and if I wasnt based in the UK id pay for some lessons with you
I'm still working my way through your videos, but now that you've done this...Pearl Jam's "Black" at either MTV Unplugged or Pinkpop Festival. SO. GOOD.

Same! More rock/metal 👌
T00L IS NOT ‘ROCK’ nor is it ‘METAL’.
T00L’s music cannot be classified....
Err. Yes it can. It can quite easily be classified as both rock and metal, due to them having songs fitting both genres. They do fit better in on the metal genre.
Sam, I know you can pull off the haircut, but do you think you can pull off the pink, one piece, thermal underwear look? LOL!
He could totally rock the pink long Johns!
Actually, is Maynard wearing a jumper? I thought they were thermal underwear, too, but ...
Maynard keeps a tight schedule, nap time is directly after concert time.
Jymio Jammer LOL, so it's a matter of practicality? I like it!
Jymio Jammer This is the best comment I’ve seen all day
Let’s get some more men in a onepiece whatever that is lol
Very interesting, thanks for sharing that!
LEON HOUSE: LET'S PLAY MOBILE GAMES Thanks for the info!!!!
More then likely from all the mkultra programming...
Muy interesante.
@daimon hellstrom
You literally don't know if his story is true or isn't.
I love that song so much. Their voices together is beautiful
Agreed 100%. I often wonder why they never did it again after that. The energy in that booth must've been unreal.
Yeah please react to Chino Moreno Next!
Yeah he should critique Chino! :)
Also I'd love to hear your thoughts on Chris Cornell

Third'd! I was just on a Cornell binge earlier today and I thought the exact same thing.
Please? That would be amazing
"Beyond the Wheel" especially....but so many other songs too
I guess I Sixth this too ... Anyone tried to hold that long note he does on Cochise (Audioslave in case people had forgotten)??
Oh I love this performance. Was surprised when I saw Tool pop up. Awesome! Glad there's some more variety coming into your videos!
Yes! And if he likes Maynard i KNOW he will love Layne Staley if he gives him a try. He’s my favorite singer ever. And being a trained singer myself (not that I’m amazing or anything but I have a good ear and picky ), I’m a tough sell
Same, best reaction to Sober.
I was there. First band, first day.
Leb Heidenstrøm OooOoOo you're so luckyyyy!! I'd friggin LOVE to see Tool!
I have never related to something so much in my entire 38 years of existing! Rock that white hair and keep rocking my dude🤘🤘🤘🤘

@@jasonsheline6610 lol yup.. its funny when drugs come up in interviews Maynard always denies or somehow moves past that question of has he or the band "experimented" drugs. When you have to PEE but the band makes you sing anyway...
That is definitely a drugged out stance. Most likey a psychedelic of some sort
No he wasn't high and he would often do physical poses and movements like you see here in the 90s
@@matthewsavoie1506 he looks like he is high AF, but he sings on point, so I wouldn't bet on either side
Sam listening to one of my all time favorite bands... awesome.
I've honestly never really listened to Tool before. Wow! He sounds fantastic and so steady and easy through his range!
Would you consider the Foo Fighters? I love me some Dave Grohl.

Yesssss David Gohl!!! I'd love this so hard!!!
@@cashewpistachio1826 Lol, same. Dave Grohl is a "tool."
Sam! Mad respect for breaking down some TOOL. Thank you for doing your thing and sharing it with us!
I was not expecting to see Tool here. Maynard is so underrated!
Maynard's voice is EVERYTHING!!! 🤗💜👏👍
Ok, finally finished watching, I'm subscribed FOREVER now.

I am in love with this HIGHLY ADDICTIVE channel!! I just stumbled across this tonight for the first time. I cannot wait to watch every single video!
I would love to hear what you have to say about Layne Staley. Alice in Chains - Love Hate Love (live at the Moore theater)
I second that.
My favorite AIC song and performance.
Actually...I think "Rain When I Die" would be a better choice or my favorite.... "God Am" both live versions are amazing!
Omg please do one for Layne but one where he gives it. Rooster or man in the box maybe? Even better would be reacting to him in AIC and then react to their glam rock days before getting signed.
Yes please!
saving his plug for the last 15 seconds... a true gentleman
I've seen them live. At Rock im Park in Nuremberg, Germany, 2002. They were fucking amazing. 46&2 was a seminal experience to see performed live.
Every single time I've seen Tool live they were phenomenal. I've only seen a perfect circle once back with NIN and it was amazing too.
I met Maynard while buying some of his wine and the dude was super nice and kind of shy.
YESSSS! I've been waiting to see what you had to say about Maynard for a while now. So stoked! Thanks, Sam!

Ahhhhhhhh, thank you for this! Please react to A Perfect Circle: "By and Down the River" Live at Red Rocks!!!! It is the BEST live version on YT and Maynard sounds absolutely amazing!!!! OMG I was so excited seeing you react to Tool, I love Tool and A Perfect Circle and Maynard is a true inspiration, I have so much respect and admiration for him!!!!
thanks for reacting to all forms of music rather than just one genre like some voice teachers do.
I watch to a WHOLE LOT of vocal coach reactions to this clip and the information you present by far is the best. Well played.
You're a legend for analyzing this.
I LOVE TOOL! His voice is smooth and powerful. Such an effortless flow. Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Love watching you and your passion for music.
GypsyRock river of deceit
GypsyRock agreed, but I’d vote for nutshell
Yes! Alice in Chains - Love Hate Love (live)
Oh yes please
Michelle Despres definitely a good song but I don’t feel it challenges or showcases his voice anywhere near as much as others. But I do understand why it is a favorite of many people
I specifically looked for your review of his vocals here because you're the only vocal coach here on TH-cam that I believe in.
Maynard is so talented. Really enjoying your content Sam!
That's funny you mention Black, I was literally humming/singing that at work yesterday - Eddie Vedder's voice had gone through so many different stages, dudes been around for decades now, he would definitely be an awesome case study for Sam to break down (some sort of "adapting to changes over time or other events that alter/change/affect your singing voice etc" kind of approach perhaps)
Keep it up Sam, your clear, concise explanations & breakdowns are greatly appreciated 👌
Love how he's quietly singing along
Same dude, I saw him and he was so far from the front of the stage. I think he’s good nonetheless, I’d still watch that mans weird silhouette
In an interview, Maynard said that he likes to turn his back to the audience so that the emphasis is on the whole sound, not just the singing
That happened to me when I saw the Mars Volta. It was like he was staring at a ghost. Except he had a sweet outfit and makeup on...
Been to two concerts and soon my third in a couple of months at Rockville
The gorge is so beautiful.
I completely agree! it's more so like the Maynard experience, I've seen APC 3 times and Tool three times and Puscifer once... He is a lyrical genius and his voice is phenomenal, I can not fathom his ability.
i'm like missing every possible tool show there is.! highly overrated musicians, ridiculous busybody on the mic. totally unsympathetic band.
Layne Staley also has amazing and powerful vocals
He's dead though

I agree
YES!!! TOOL!!!! Maynard is such an amazing talent! I've seen him perform twice with A Perfect Circle. The first concert I was completely blown away. He sounds better live than he does on CD. Thanks for covering Tool!
Chris Cornell. Possibly the best or at least top three rock vocalists ever. Would love to see you break down him. Especially on say hello to heaven
His cover of nothing compares to you
PLEASE do Layne Staley from Alice in Chains, he was great friend's with Maynard as well, his voice was just out of this world great.
Love, hate, love- live at The Moore would be amazing
Yes! My fav artist.
Another great video! Corey Taylor from Stone Sour/Slipknot is another "rocker" who (in my opinion) has excellent control of his instrument.
Only MJK
you should never say the best, you are never sure. but he is one of the best
As a drummer, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for encouraging singers to learn rhythm. Thank you, Sam!
Great pick!!! Song of my high school days! Listen to this in the dark, headphones on. 🤯Amazing powerful voice and song!

I gasped when I got this notification! No idea if Sam even saw my Maynard request but I feel heard anyway.
Maynard is so incredible. Just astounding. 💗
Still love this song, 25 years later. One of my all time favorites.
YAS! now we are talking...
Mer de Noms is such a masterpiece imo. Def one of my favorites both lyrically and musically
Maynard is my all time favorite. I couldn't agree more. I love listening to Puscifer and then going back to Opiate - when Tool were just kids. It is promising to hear how some voices can get better over time.
Same with Chino Moreno. Always been impressed by his style and range. Yet he's unconventional in his approach.
Plz react to serj tankian ("system of a down" and his solo project)

Great pick, but I would recommend the Jools Holland version on TH-cam....Layne is in rare form
Yes i hope he react to Alice in chains!
I liked his vocals in Mad Season...even though we didn't see/hear it live, it was still done ins studio by Layne Staley in an incredibly short amount of time. Could have been an incredible super group if addiction hadn't derailed it.
Craig Westergard mad season did perform live
Lol, I was just gonna comment this! The Unplugged version too. Good call!
His stage fright technique he's using here is staring at just one person and focusing just on them. He never scans the crowd he focus on over point and that's it.
Jamie B be kinda freaky to see him staring into your soul for the whole concert
Please react to Tool - Pushit salival version. I'd like to know your thoughts about the song and Maynard's performance.

yes yes yes. amazing performance, and a vocal showcase
Oh this is a good one
Absolutely. There's a note in that that is completely insane.
It is wonderful how much love he is getting compared to 10 years ago.
Don't forget he's also amazing at character voices. The variety he can get in games like The Darkness and L4D/(2)
Too bad Tapeworm didn't happen .
dude! we would get along great!
*sees Tool*

I echo the Mike Patton sentiments. Such a fascinating vocalist.
Fuck yes! I've been copying Mike forever, and no matter how good I think I am, I hear me some Patton and just throw up my hands and think, "God dammit!" He might be unexplainable. But try to do him anyway! Please!
I would love to see him try and analyze Moonchild, he may not like it but that is vocal control, it is amazing. Mike Patton live is astounding.
I only opened the comments to request Mike Patton. Mr. Bungle "California" is one of my favorite albums ever.
Well yes... Yes those two guys
You spelt God wrong.
Peter Steel from Type O Negative
Not sure. Heard one of the late live concerts and it was a drunken noise.
The god of deep voices

Yessss!! *.*
Moon Gazer I like how he says “Cigahh Rrrrreeeette Oh yeah”
As a woman, ukulele matches my key and range a little better than guitar (though when I play on a friend's guitar I use a capo on 3 or 5.)
Anyway thanks for awesome videos, keep it up. Would love to see more rock, metal, alt rock stuff. :)
By far the best Reaction I’ve watched.. I really like how you explain yourself Very informative. Thanks
I saw tool for the 4th time last year and boy, Maynard still has incredible vocal strength. The dude is an enigma.
Keep being awesome and if I wasnt based in the UK id pay for some lessons with you
I clicked this so fast! Maynard is my favourite vocalist, I'm so keen to see what you have to say!
Be still my ❤. Tool. Tool. Toooool.
I'm still working my way through your videos, but now that you've done this...Pearl Jam's "Black" at either MTV Unplugged or Pinkpop Festival. SO. GOOD.
