Enjoy these comparison videos. I think the most important take away is not the incremental gains of each generation (as demonstrated by robots or in this case Ian normalizing all of the other variables), but that a well-fit driver of any generation will consistently beat an poorly fit driver. For me the need to change drivers has been more about changes in my physical abilities (and sometimes skill) rather than the changes in equipment technology. This is where fitting has been so helpful for me as a player and made golf much more enjoyable.

I’ve been playing golf for 40 years. In reality the technology has probably given us 40 yards over that period of time. Personally, I think half or more of that, is the golf ball! The biggest difference is the forgiveness. When I started playing in the mid 80’s most guys were still using wood-woods, one or two had the latest metal woods. I can remember nearly ever guy pulling out 3 wood to the tee box. If you pulled out your one wood, your were definitely feeling confident! That old saying “you’ve hit that straight out of the screws” was a real saying.

I have a G400 Max with stock shaft and decided to get a shaft fitting last week and gained 30 yards! I had them put in a g430 10K head on this new shaft and the difference wasn't significant enough to get the new driver. I love my g400 max head. I find the turbulators on the g430 10k stick out more and a little distracting at address. lol For the curious, it'll be the Accra GX blue shaft. Liked it so much I'm replacing my g400 5 wood (ping tour shaft) with a g430 max 5 wood with Accra GX blue shaft also. ;)

Have you ever compared it to a modern driver on a range or a trackman? Asking as I've just upgraded from a 909 D2 to a TS3 myself. Mainly for forgiveness rather than distance but I did wonder if it's even worth a few hundred notes upgrade if distance only is the goal.

      I had a 910 D3 that was in my bag from 2011 until 2020 when I got fitted for a TSi3.
Both heads were around 9.5 loft + had OG Diamana Kaili 7x and I increased ball speed from 172 to 179 on average (8-10 balls).

@@bobb3rdown676 How many rounds per year are you playing? On average, how many times per round are you hitting driver? What is your swing speed? Are you also at driving range w/driver? How often?
I ask this because ime, driver heads don’t last that long. This is particularly true of earlier titanium face drivers. I never had a 910 but I had the 975 and 909D3, my only Titleist drivers prior to my current TSR3. Both of those Titleist drivers I cracked the face within 2 seasons of playing average 50 rounds annually. I had same issues with various GBB Ti and XHot drivers. I had the original Sim that went nearly 3 full years before something broke internally; it had a rattle noise but face was still intact. The only drivers I’ve never had fail is a Mizuno JPX900 and my TSR3.

I had my 915d3 9.5 for 10 years. Had it when it first came out. Finally switched to the tsr4 9 degree. It was the hardest switch in the bag because the 915, I knew where it was going 100% of the time. I could pull it out and just swing it and it’ll go. I have 120-122SS, smash factor 1.49-1.50 and I would carry the 915 300+. But sometimes, I’ll catch high spinners even with center hits which would cause my ball to spin 3500 instead of 2100. Even had the OG ck pro white 6tx. The tsr4 is a true spin killer. Haven’t had ball balloon up in spin and flight.

Upgrading from a 975d to a Qi10 a few months back, after a long break from the game. Adds only around 10 yards comparing clean hits, despite being 25 years apart. There's 10x more clean hits with the modern driver though, so average distance works out way higher.

      @MichaelM-to4sg 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Why? I personally am not a fan of Ventus. I’ve tried the original Ventus and the TR in both 5X and 6X versions, I find them lacking in feel which leads to less consistent release. I’ve never tried the VF but overall I like the GDI shafts for smooth profile and good feel. For reference I currently game a Fuji Platinum Speeder 5X, always liked Speeder and MCA Diamana profiles for their smooth profiles.
For Ian, his tempo is not abrupt. Unless you have a very quick transition at top, a smoother bend profile, especially in mid shaft and even more active tip, can provide more consistent impact due to improved feel and feedback of head.

This is an interesting video, as the two older drivers mostly were struck closer to the bottom of the club face, which is definitely going to make probably 5 to 8 yards of difference in distance. Some of the strikes with the new GT driver were closer to centre which is going to give more distance naturally. so if the older drivers were struck, this test would likely be a lot closer maybe within the yard or two, and for almost $1000 CDN for a new GT driver? The new driver does look good, however, if the older drivers are struck closer to centre as the GT was, you would see very little difference, maybe a couple of yards. How about a review on the new Callaway Ai Smoke MAX TRIPLE DIAMOND driver? This is a limited edition model. I just recently purchased kind of in between the max model and the triple diamond model. I’m loving it. Great distance and launch, and extremely forgiving, considering what it is. How about putting it up against the new Titleist and some of the other brands, let’s see a bit of a comparison.

Do you think 10 yard gains would be realized for all golfers? Or are the gains more relative to the swing speed? You gained 3% in distance. For someone hitting 200 yards, are they going to get 10 yards? Or more like 5-6 yards? Would love to see this test with a slower swinger and a higher handicapper. It might be even better for weaker golfers because forgiveness improvements are more critical for them than distance improvements on pure strikes for you.

When you look at the standard deviation they all cross over so is there really a gain? 915 driver carries 299 with a deviation of 4 yards so could carry 303, GT3 carries 307 with a deviation of 6 so you could carry it 301 so the 2 clubs crossover. So at the moment, the amount of TSR drivers going for sale on the 2nd hand market in the UK is pretty funny. You can get one for £200 from someone desperate for a GT product. There's probably little to no difference for a club golfer between the two drivers, but golfers love a shiny new name and head cover for the bag, and are willing to sell their soul for it.

Heads have made small gains using a modern shaft. But what happens if you use a ten year old shaft compared to a new shaft. I think this would show a much larger difference.

it's not a driver, but i'd like a video that might help with buying *Cheap* premium balls. Even the "cheaper" ones like Vice, still aren't cheap. it's ridiculous how much a decent ball is. And I mean for 115 swingspeed - not srixon soft feel for grandpas.

I thought the 913 was way better than the 915. Still love my tsi3 but maybe getting the tsr4. The GT doesn't look as nice but I'm curious about the new material. It's hard to test new equipment being a lefty!

When you can hit any driver 280 +. What more do you want ? Spin rate , launch angle, ball speed , etc etc You guys remember the days when PGA pros would average 275 off the tee ? Now the average golfer can bang the ball 280+. What more do you want ? If you're a weekend hacker which most of us are. Use the clubs in your bag and focus on game All the modern drivers in the last 10-15 years are pretty much the same within a few yards. Get to know your clubs and enjoy the game .

I think the 10.5 915 D2 and 9 degree Cobra SZ 460 were the best drivers I've ever hit. I hit them longer and straighter than anything I can remember. I've been a club junkie my whole golfing life. Why do we always chase better when we have something that works? 🤔

With standard deviations considered, 915 & TS3 overlap on ball speed and same for TS3 & GT3. Same goes for launch angle, spin, carry and total distance. Not really much different on these numbers from old to new....same for most drivers in the last 10 years really.

915 was a great driver with the right shaft!
    Brandon Bomber they called it.
Also a Ping G 400 with a Fububiki K shaft was pretty good too. Played Chambers 1st time with a baby cut at 38 degrees. 73!
So, if you have a little cash, why not get the best out there, I say.
If golf is your passion, why not get the best driver out there for you.

i must say that iv watched many you tube golfer channels and in my opinion ian has the nicest smoothest easiest swing ofvthem all, might not be the longest but id sacrifice distant for his consistency everyday.
regarding distance and club performance tho, its very disappointing to see the carries across the board on these clubs particularly the new gt3 of ave 285. i thought that was particularly low then looked at the TM sim vs stealth comparison of 9 months ago
    sim 164 ball 298 carry 313 total
    stealth 2 161 ball 290 carry 310 total
now is it just me thats noticed this but not only have we reached the limit of distance but we seem to be going backward now to allow for greater forgiveness.
The stealth2 offered optimal balance hence the whole 'fargiveness' campaign yet wasnt in the bag but the GT3 are lower on every level except ball speed ( but then we need to question the efficiency of its conversion of ball speed to distance) yet its in the bag.
what is going on here guys..are we being duped by the marketong for us to find out next iteration well actually gt was a flop and the gt hyper model is the new benchmark.
im struggling to see any performance gains in the 2024 line up..the 430 10k might appear to offer a bit more than the other ho hum same ole same ole offerings.
am i missing something here!! is this the twilight zone that we are being hypnotized to accept less performance yet must fork out $600 to get this just to hv the latest head cover and be happy while in essence we have lost performance money and our minds. WTH

I feel as thought the most efficient and probably hottest driver done completely by A.I.
is probably really "ugly"....These newer techs are probably severely limited by the constraints of trying to still look like a golf "club".
    Wonder what that would be.
