- Trying to get ahead of things, we combined the formic treatment round with the first round of supers.
Sorry there is another phone chime ringing during the video. I didn't notice this until it was too late.
Thanks for the video and happy full flow.
The master, beekeeper, that is!
The medium with the vent holes is smoking awesome for clearing.
Wow that was simple and fast! I like it!
Glad you like it!
We have used formic with meat pads for 25 years. You need a heavier dose of formic to be effective especially with the honey supers on.
Do you loose queens sometimes to formic acid flash 65% ?
I avoid treating the weaker hives. They are more vulnerable to overdose. You gotta watch the temperature as well.
@@philbeeman thanks for the tip
That's about the fastest I ever saw a box cleared of bees. What brand is that neat little blower? I haven't found one yet quite like that one. 😊😊
Makita
Brutal
Na, probably safer than pulling frames. They would blow out softer than you’d expect
Does this actually hurt the bees? Figured it doesn't but I'm no expert
Great video as usual. Interested in the formic acid application. I'm considering using this treatment on the completion of my first pull of honey. I'm planning on placing the formic acid pads just as you did, when I'm pulling my honey. The question I'm having is considering using the ziplock bag method with multiple holes. The amount of formic acid in the pads varies between 50ml to 250ml from what I've been finding. I see you're using 1pad heavily soaked in the formic and the bees seem to tolerate that just fine by the looks of things. Just looking at clarification on your application method. I'm just looking at another way of getting a better knock down before fall
Correction: I'm actually using two pads, but I don't separate them so they are easier to handle.
Nice 👍🏻 job
Hi, could you detail a bit how you prepare those formic acid napkins ? The concentration, napkin type etc. Thank you in advance !
65% formic. YOu have to soak the nappies for a while, they don't take it up too quick. Those are meat liquid traps.
Where did you get the blower?
This blower I’ve had for over 20 years. Came from local hardware store.
Honey bee be gone spray and a fume board is how I do it but whatever works for you looking good
Now that was cool, with the blower , do you ever kill your queen with the blower, do u remove your bees from the suppers for harvest that way with the blower 1 more question the formic how do u make it and what is the mextric u are useing to give it to your hives Thanks hope u and your crew have a Blessed week
Queen losses are minimal. Less than any other method I’ve tried.
@@philbeeman what about the formic how do u make it thanks
it comes ready to use as registered here in Canada.
Using this method (esp if there is significant brood in that second box), what % chance is there is injury to the queen? I recall you using a fancy Chinese shaker machine last year...
This method is better. the shaker is too slow.
That is so quick! Out of 100 hives, how many queens do you think you lose like that?
Considering trying this.
Thank you very much for the video
I'm hoping for none, other methods including shaking, fume boards or manual searches killed more of my queens than this method. I have checked hives after doing that and I don't see any dead bees thrown out the front door.
Why not just put on a fume board? Queen will be down immediately and you need no empty box
I have better results this way.
I’ve tried fume boards too, never quite gotten them to work right. Wish I could, people that have luck with them clear through their hives so easily
@@KamdensBees Well the tarp really needs to be glued to the metal and they need sun and temperature. If they don’t work for you, try fan or wind boards. They work better great even when it is cold or cloudy.
We have a double brood nest we added a super, what does one do with the brood after we shake the queen down? Thanks for the info
Let it hatch out.
