I'm currently working on a The Movies inspired game. I hope it will be more like City Skylines is to Sim City. Not an exact clone like this one but allows for more customization of sets and other things. It's being made in Unreal.
Once I get the prototype down and ready I plan to launch a Kickstarter and open it for Steam wishlists.
Look forward to seeing more!
You should upload dev logs.
@@inventions178 I would love to but they take a lot of time and my primary engine has been Unity up until recently, so I am fumbling around with the learning curve. I'm not sure how entertaining that would be ;)... Eh I will think about it lol
@@Geekism I have been watching your vids for awhile now so I am sure you will be one of the first to know :).
I've been playing The Movies on and off since it's release so this game is a fresh breath of air to me. 💖
I have such a soft spot for The Movies!
Is that the Sims4 UI? It looks totally identical.
All these building games look the same, Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo are the same as well, I actually thought it was another Frontier Developments game
It's very similar to Sims tbh... but whatever works I guess
Honestly I love it, I know I’ll be able to use it haha
I had the #1 rated studio in The Movies, Primetime Studios.
Good work!

Thanks. It was a lot of work with VO's and editing, but it was fun.
I just started playing this, and im starting in 1920. My actor won Actor of the Year 3 years in a row, he's already an A-list celebrity and i made 2 of the highest grossing movies so far, the only 2 movies to break 1 million+ in ticket sales. My studio won 4 other awards each year too. Its really nice game, but seems way too easy. Maybe in future years it will become more challenging but 1920s era is a walk in the park.
I need to find the time to watch this video in full, but the title had me hooked. I still go back to The Movies once in a while! Can't wait to see your playthrough of this!
Nothing beats The Movies, but this is scratching an itch
This game looks really promising!
Glad to see you still around Jonti. I have been playing the Movies since it came out in 2005 and this video is the first I am hearing about this game. I was so excited to see it is releasing in 11 hours from when I found this video! Great content as always. I'm definitely going to check this one out.
Thanks Lauren! It has a good skeleton, but a bit of a way to go before it's The Movies imho
Great to see such a creative take on a genre we have been missing for a while
Completely agree!
I got radiators in my house here in Canada! they are definitely uncommon, and you usually only find them in older houses
Wow it felt like ages ago i watched your The Movies content what a perfect time to return with the release of it's successor.
Thanks for this one, Jonti. Been on my watchlist for a while now; I adored The Movies, even though it was a bit of a flawed game at times. I played the demo of this and while I can see the potential, I still thought it was a little unintuitive and also very difficult to make any money. Still, I love the idea, and perhaps the game will get better after a few updates. Not sure I'll pick it up when it releases on Thursday, but I'll definitely keep an eye on it, and any more videos you make on it!
Incidentally, the writers' room and producer's room weren't working because you didn't have the very specific item it wanted - the cabinets. You can see it says "The room requirements are not met" around 39:14. You need both types of cabinet, apparently. The game should probably do more to warn you that the movie isn't getting made because of that!
Thabks for watching, it definately has promise! So I don't think you NEED the cabinets, but the Gane seemingly needs you to take the desk from the UI menu and not the main menu? I think? It is a little unintuitive, but an easy fix I feel
This looks great! I put some movie games on my wishlist years ago and none of them seem any closer to release. They also do not look as good.
I'm looking forward to a whole Geekism series on this :D
Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on all of them too... this one definately seems the most fleshed out, if a little safe in it's similarity to 'The Movies', but hey... The Movies ruled, so maybe it's ok!
Now this is a nostalgic throwback !
Walls on a wonk? Amazing. Very curious to see how this one develops, as I loved your The Movies series.
Thanks Todd! Yeah I think this is a little light on content atm, but it's definately one to watch. We'll be covering it for a few episodes atleast!
😁Man! It's good to see you back!
Good to be back!
Yay! New geekism video!
Woo!
The Movies was before its time. Imagine what it could have been if it was released today at the peak of modding.
While I am more excited for Movies Tycoon (based on the demo, it seems more like the 2005 original), I am on board for this playthrough and can see why you are drawn to this one. First impression is that it is a mix of The Movies and the Two-Point series of games.
I much prefer the art direction of this to Movies Tycoon, but I'm very willing to give them both a fair shake of the stick!
By the same guys that made planet coaster and planet zoo?
No 😅. I can only imagine tho if Frontier would do this. It would be amazing because you would technically end up with many diorama’s for each stage, on a single map.
No, but the characters do look similar! I've always said Frontier could have a good go at a Movies game. I think Two Point could too!
It's reminds me of classic Sims game,Must be inspiration from it. Keep up awesome and amazing job Geekism 👍
Thanks
"They can come in for breakfast" I would quit that place so fast
Lol. No unions yet! They'll work when I tell them to
This one was a screamer. Starting from about 30 minutes in I was just yelling "The room requirements are not met!" while your mouse hovered around it and you saying "Hmm, what seems the problem..." as you ponder hiring more staff and eliminating leisure and meal times. Classic Jonti content. Very entertaining haha
Yeah... classic wood from the trees moment there lol
Is there a radio station? That was the BEST part of the Movies. The snarky commentary radio host and the timeline with historical references
Not yet but we are working on it :)
From the horses mouth!
@@blockbusterincoh man! Perfect! Thanks! Looking forward to it
I haven't finished the video so if it changes later I haven't seen it but having to go through the entire cafeteria and bathroom to get to the maintenance area seems so weird to me, why not a door straight from the outside
As you'll see, we added an outside access :D
This game looks so good,! Looking forward to release!
Enjoy!
Steam says this is due to unlock in 24 hours, so I've wishlisted it!
Hope you enjoy it!
this looks like a sims, planet coaster mix in tersm of style
Yeah, similar elements to both!
this is hilarious. i was just downlaoding The Movies yesterday, now this vid appeared. sick
Nice! The Movies is such a classic
cant wait for this to come out , I miss The Movies
Me too!
When I saw this announcement the first thing I thought of was Geekism
It's very much in our wheelhouse!
It's okay. The first couple of days were just training days lol lots of free time watching how to videos.
Have they said a price yet?
It's up now
why is no price listed anywhere?
It's up now I think
wow this ui is *very* sims 4
Yeah, has a very Sims feel to it
I literally just had the same thought. I build all the time in The Sims 4 & was like, whoa!
Not sure what the director was doing? Looks like it was all you Jonti
Right? Slacker!
Idk the movie was pretty funny to me lol
Hemorrhaging cash is the most fun part of these games lol 💸💸💸
Yay! Financial illiteracy!
This just seems like a clone tbh
The movie lol 😅
Calling it Blockbuster Inc is kind of not congruent to the type of game it is, that makes it sound like you're running movie rental place so it sounds like movie rental tycoon or something LOL
I mean... a blockbuster is a big movie... but it does make googling the game a little tricky!
I guess if you don't know the definition of the word blockbuster, one might be confused?
