In Canada. We sell potato chips in a rounded card board can the same size as the can that you use to mould your board. They are called Pringle’s. I use that for my rounded spines. You don’t have to use any goop.

This is the exact same way I do mine , with glycerine, I use a raid fly spray can 😂 and just use elastic bands , I’m in middle of filming my process now , great vid Zoe 😘

You are so talented! I love your videos! I run a 1/4 inch double sided tape along the length of the spine for my spacer bar. Easier than fussing with the spacer bar.

I started using tyvek envelopes and cutting them up to reinforce spines, it's made things so much easier. I do have a problem using fabritac to cover the boards though, it always leaks through and marks it

Thank you for sharing - I love how you make your journals. They are always so pretty. And this spine looks fairly easy to do. I recently used Tyvek for the first time on a journal cover. I decopaged pretty old fashioned paper on the front and back boards, then painted the Tyvek dark brown and used it similarly to how you did yours, but on the outside. I folded it over the top of the spine and the book boards. It looks like a beautiful old fashioned book. Just the edge of the tyvek showing on the front and back, covering the spine. And? I dislike using Fabri-tak also - smelly messy stuff. So much easier to use Aileens. But I understand the water issue. :)

Zoe you're brilliant! I haven't found liquid starch here either??? I've had that Stiffy stuff for a couple of years!! I tried it on doilies to make pockets, now I can use it. My husband and I talked about what to wrap chipboard around because my rolling pin is really small and never thought to just look in the cupboard. Tights are great! I've been putting a small amount(about a quarter) of 100% acetone in my Fabritac otherwise I can hardly squeeze it out. A another lovely lady recommended that on her video.Thank you so much for all your help. It is so greatly appreciated!!

Here in US 3 in 1 made by Beacon(same company as Fabritac) is the least expensive of the 3 I've seen. I'm usually not a price checker(which I should be!!) but I am a coupon clipper!

Very good tutorial, thank you. I really like the idea of using fabric stiffener instead of starch. Also, when using that fabric glue, I found that it takes forever to dry, so i use a glue layering technique, a fabric glue and a tacky glue. Great ideas, thanks so much for sharing your energy and genius.

I love this video! I am subscribing to watch your other videos. I had two years of bookmaking in college and never knew I could make a curved spine! I have a question. When wetting the spine prior to applying the Stiffy (2:26) is it plain water or water with soap. I used the closed captions and it reads "you need to soap both sides...". I didn't know if it should read soak or soap. Thank you for sharing your talent!!! Your new subbie P.S. When you mention glycerin, would that be in place of the Stiffy or the water?
Hi Melissa, I’m glad you found the videos useful 😊. I just use plain water to wet (soak 😂) the spine but I’ve seen others add glycerin to the water. It’s supposed to keep the moisture in the board longer but I find it works well without. Hope this helps 😁

Hi LC, you’re very welcome 😊. I use Calico fabric and I think you could use any reinforced tape, such as gaffer tape. It’s used to stop the fabric on the hidden binding from rubbing ☺️

Seems like our craft stores are lacking in all kinds of glues and other products I see ppl using on TH-cam tutorials.

I have looked on line but there are so many, including a few different fabri tac options 😴
I ended up using pritt stick and hot glue so far, all the glues seem to be water based.
Thought I'd give the fabri tac a go next , off to Amazon again X

Hi Dianna, Tyvek is a thin, very strong, type of plasticed paper. Here in the 🇬🇧, i have to buy it in A4 sheets, but I’ve seen lots of ladies in the 🇺🇸 say they get them as mailing envelopes. I use it to reinforce and protect the hinge area on a book. If in doubt, have a look on Amazon 😂

Thanks Zoe this turned out great! I do not have Tyvek do you think muslin/calico would work bonded with Heat'n Bond in it's place? Did you not need to pinch-in the hinged area, ( inside the cover with tweezers) as in the flat spine book?
Hi Nancy, the tyvek is used to protect the hinge area from wearing, so anything thin and flexible should do the job. The fabric on the hinge area is left as is and not pinched. If you have a look at a hard cover book, you should see the area between the spine and cover board has an indent to allow enough movement for the signatures to flex when open. I hope that makes sense 😁
Yes, it does make sense...I was comparing to how in the book crease (or hinge for flexing); it was made differently than the glued in spine, of the flat-spined hardcover book. You answered it in the the very last tutorial! This has a hollowed out spine or moving spine which flexes too. Different techniques for different types of books. Learning more everyday!

All most 2 yrs since I made a book I just remember my cover warping Can you think of why I use mod podge. I feel like I'm starting over Yikes
Hi Jeanne, ah I remember that well and me explaining that card has a grain 🤔. Did you use mod podge to glue fabric to the cover?
@@zoetofieldPapercrafting You know what's scary I don't remember asking this question!! ha! I have never mastered the all fabric book cover unless I use paper(tissue) on back of fabric. I used Fabritac . I think my boards warped because I used mod podge to glue down scrapbook paper than put mod podge to cover paper bet it was to much moisture. Does that make sense? I have a book press my husband made me. I think I will not mod podge top of paper anymore and use press. I used front/back's of Dollar Tree books because they were thicker. I need to get going again and just do the work/play and watch all your lovely videos again. I could listen to you talk all day.
