I also bought a Victorian home, and I am so in love with it! I am watching your video (amongst others), to better understand special gadgets and amazing details that I want to bring back to my home, as with more than a century gone by, some of those details and gadgets were taken down. Oh how I’m enjoying the whole adventure!
Welcome to the world of old house restoration! Your house looks like it has good bones and isn't in derelict condition. Just remember to take your time and don't get discouraged when the inevitable setbacks occur. You have a very nice voice!
I had an 1875 grand dame affectionately called “the Twisted Chimney” when I lived in BC. So much of what you’re describing is very familiar to me. I had fun updating and caring for her but never had the money to fully restore her. Once a dog went through the ground floor French doors ( long story) and it was $8k to repair back to the original! Thank goodness for insurance! These homes are often not cared for so kudos to you for bringing her back into her glory! Looking forward to seeing the transformations.
Jane! this is so incredible for you. I am thrilled that you are taking all of us on this amazing journey. Excited to see what comes to life with this enchanted place already, I am convinced you will make this all way too magical!! :) Congratulations.
WoW!! When I mentioned pink on blue in the pick a pile reading, I had no idea. The entrance way is stunning. The stained glass, the majestic staircase, the inlaid parquet flooring and all that beautiful wood framing. The peak into your studio ... where all the magic happens, was really special Its a really beautiful home. Hoping the renovation goes smoothly.
This is a BEAUTIFUL house, congratulations! I'm reminded of an Architectural Historian I started following this past year, her name is Betsy Sweeny. She's working on restoring an old house (also built in 1892) in West Virginia. It's amazing to see old houses brought back to life, so special. Thank you for sharing!
Jane...wishing you many blessings in your new home. It is quite a "pretty lady" already. So looking forward to seeing you bring her back to life. The lofty looks incredibly beautiful as well! Have fun! :)
I just discovered this, and I see that there are only three videos all from a year ago. I am curious if you continued with your renovations or if you sold the house. How did this all turn out?
Enjoyed this! This the first video I have seen of yours…I hope there are more!! We bought a 1897 Victorian home and it is SO slow as we ended up having to do it ourselves. We KNEW we would do much of it ourselves….but thought we could have contractors do much of it, also. The costs are too high. I admire your passion! We have been here 1 1/2 years. It’s slow. I have good times (mentally) and bad times. We are taking it a day at a time.❤ Thank you for your video.
Can’t wait to see what you create ! I miss having a window over the kitchen sink looking out over the yard . I used to love watching all kinds of wildlife from there . Had to give that up when I moved last year 💜 So my best advice is keep the window over the sink 😎🐈⬛🐇🦝🐓🐿🌳🌷🌻
Yes that window is a MUST! I'm actually making it bigger. there is a beautiful deer with her three fawn that frequent my property - it is so fun to watch!
Wow!! This home is so similar to my sisters home in New Jersey but her doors are pocket doors . I love her home and love yours . Victorian homes are magical and enchanting . I am so excited to be here and watch from the beginning . Thank God you got there in October , that leaking could have caused something or someone to fall through the floor. Yikes !! Good luck , congratulations and God bless you . Stay safe and well Jane.
I’ve been doing plumbing for 32 years and I’ve never seen a ice machine have a leak that wasn’t caused by the installer, it being a loose water line connection or if it is a gravity drain machine the drain from the machine not be properly placed inside the rough in drain. Or maybe the sewer line for the home had backed up and causing the leak from the machines drain. Good luck on your remodel.
Have you done it before? It's my first time and even though my first project is a million times bigger than I thought it would be, I am so happy doing it! Puts a huge smile on my face :D Happy you're here!!!
You deserve this so much, Jane. This house is enchanted! I always say that the house we choose is the canvas of our life, like a neverending reflection of our creativity through time. Seems like you are embarking on a great journey! ❤️❤️
Thank you!! ❤️ I agree - and as someone who is SUCH a homebody (like, for real - it serves as a sanctuary I never want to leave) I feel what you say deeply.
