There is another version of this I have seen on TH-cam titled: Hard to say I'm sorry/Get Away. The "Get Away" ending will surprise you - horns, great drums and fast tempo. A very under-recognized singer/songwriter is Peter Cetera. Nice backup/harmonizing vocals from Robert Lamm - also under-recognized singer/songwriter. Although have been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (along with trombonist James Pankow) they don't seem to get the notoriety they deserve. "You're the inspiration" is another great love ballad sung by Cetera.

The longer version that you heard is actually the original one from the "Chicago 16" album. This single version was an edit of the song for the radio. The edited version was a huge hit, but I strongly prefer the original, longer version with the horns and driving guitar! 🙂

Many have said that Peter Cetera is pop music's natural. His unwavering falsetto is pure and filled with emotion, if you listen closely. Especially listen to Glory of Love from the movie The Karate Kid, or his duet with Cher. It is prominent. Love him, and the band Chicago.

This was a COMPLETELY new sound from Chicago 41yrs ago this summer… I remember where I was when I heard it in my car for the 1st time. This sound is 70% the genius of David Foster, and 30% the sound of Peter Cetera's voice… it was the beginning of a series of hits that came from these two. To this day there are members of Chicago who have mixed feelings about Foster and Cetera;s 'takeover' of the band's sonic direction… thing is, even though they were 'successful' with albums of songs their fans loved, they entered a new strata of success with this David Foster production style.

First heard this song at summer camp in the San Bernardino Mts. in 1983. Was blown away and INSTANTLY hooked on Chicago.
Interesting side note: The song was from the movie "Summer Lovers" - produced by Randal Kleiser. Moved to L.A. in 2001 and started meeting people in the entertainment biz. Got invited to a party by a friend named Don Glut. He turned out to be an ex-college roommate and buddy of Kleiser, whom I met thru Don. We're still friends today.

Missed you guys but glad to be back! Peter Cetera era Chicago has always been one of my favorite groups. The sound is just amazing! Hard Habit to Break, You're the Inspiration, Stay the Night, I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love, Along Comes A Woman, What Kind of Man Would I Be, the list goes on. Great reaction, great band!!

Produced by David Foster. He is on piano in the studio, not in this video. Written by him and Peter Cetera. They wrote and performed other hit songs.
Although Peter Cetera plays the bass guitar in this video, he does not in the audio recording: Foster played a bass synthesizer.
This song was in the soundtrack to the movie 🎥Summer Lovers starring Daryl Hannah. This song appeared near the end of the movie. The song needed to be short as it is because the producers of the movie only needed a segment for the scenes.
In the audio recording, 3 members of Toto played: Steve Lukather on guitar solo, David Paich and Steve Porcaro on synthesizers. They are not in this video. In the same year, these 3 played with the late Michael Jackson, RIP, on Thriller and with the late Donna Summer, RIP, in addition to their band Toto. No wonder the 3 worked like a dog in 1982! L 🤣L
New players joined Chicago: Bill Champlin on synthesizer, although you see him on piano here, and Chris Pinnick on guitar, playing lead guitar in this video but not in the studio recording.
Chicago filmed a 2nd video in the same location.
Suggested follow-up video 🎥Chicago performs Love Me Tomorrow live.

It really is Great music. I grew up with them but not realizing it..if that makes sense? I heard them all the time but never HEARD them. I was like hey cool..NEXT. Now that I’m older (don’t know what ya got till it’s gone) do I realized what I had. The story of Terry Katz was incredibly sad. A kind of unrealized genius of his time. Yet Jimmy Hendrix himself actually admitted publicly that Terry Katz was a better guitarist than Himself! I forget who he said that to. Anyway, they both Died way too young and the World is deprived of 2 great musicians because of it.

    LOL!!
Peter Cetera has caused many to go "oooh" and "aahh."
Chicago is my all-time favorite band as they have vast range - doing a little hard rock, classic, blue-eyed soul, power ballads, etc.
In addition to their incredible vocals their horn section is unbelievable.
Other songs I recommend reviewing are:
    Hard Habit to Break
    Stay the Night
    No Tell Lover
If She Would Have Been Faithful
    Tell It Too My Heart
    Remember the Feeling
    You Come to My Senses.
