    Sirui's latest innovation makes setting up a tripod considerably faster. Ever wondered why all of the tripods can't extend at the same time? Well now they can. Here is my review of the Sirui Traveller X carbon fibre travel tripod.

    The gear I use to make my content (although this is always changing!)
    Sony A7iv + 20mm 1.8G - My main TH-cam camera for shooting out on location.
    Canon EOS R + 16mm F2.8 + Zhuyin Crane M3 - I use this for a combination of stills and video B-roll
    Sony A7iii - this is my primary stills camera that works with native Sony lenses and all my Canon EF lenses on the Sigma MC-11 adaptor
    Canon 5D3 - I use this camera when I use my EF glass and there is no benefit in adapting
    DJI Mavic Pro 2 - My first drone, and I can’t see me replacing it. It’s amazing for both stills and video
    Go Pro Hero 8 - for adverse weather conditions that my other cameras might not survive!
    Insta360 - X3 & One inch edition - for 360 degree video and BTS content
    Microphones - DJI Wireless Mic, Rode Wireless Go, Rode Lav Go, Rode Video Pro+, Rode Video Micro
    Photo Tripods - Sirui ST-124 with Sirui ballhead, Peak Design travel tripod
    Video Tripods - Benro + spikes, Switchpod, Sirui travel tripod + Gorillapod
    Monopod - Sirui P-325FL
    Camera bags - Manfrotto, Lowepro, Peak Design, K&F and Crumpler
    Photo Filters - Nisi V7 + Nisi filters, H&Y magnetic filter system
    Video filters - Freewell magnetic NDs, H&Y Revoring, Hoya Variable ND
    All of my cameras have Arca Swiss plates to connect with the Peak Design Capture Clip and compatible tripods.
    Video editing software - Adobe Premiere Pro
    Video editing on the iPad Pro - LumaFusion
    Photo editing - Adobe Lightroom, photoshop, Artisan Pro X, Silver Efex, Color Efex

    I really enjoyed this Ben. The opening drone footage was lovely and it's fab to see Chloe out with you again. It does seen sensible... and such an obvious approach too. I think I'm going to see if the concept does get adopted by others to see what they come up with. Thanks for doing the research for us 🙂

      I will convince their engineers to create a larger version of this mechanism with a ball-head. That is my mission :-)

    It's funny that you pointed out the whole mounting problem if you have an Arca-swiss base or cage on the camera. I literally just bought the Sirui FD-01 4-way head an hour ago -- it solves that problem COMPLETELY. If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend checking that head out, I plan to use mine for both video and photo.

    Are you able to take the tripod legs apart to clean and maintain it? That’s one of my biggest concerns with the tripod. I feel it will get dirty quickly.

    The advantage of thos system is also you have 1/3 or 1/4 the chance of missing a single locks peak tightness, and if just one isnt right the whole thing falls over. My 3LT is a piece of shit it drives me insane

    Theres the fotopro aircross 3 and the Ulanzi F38 tripod. They also have the same mechanism and seem to be about the same price.
    I guess either of the 3 is a good choice, although the ulanzi's payload is higher i think

    Seems so simple yet so brilliant! How hard is it to clean if you get mud or sand in it? I'm guessing you have to rinse it out once it has been in salt water too.

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brian, that’s a good question. I haven’t got it properly filthy beyond the feet in the mud. I can hear the hypothetical grit in it now as I twist the legs back into position! I always wash my tripods after taking them in the sea, but I am glad to see less and less exposed metal fixings on tripod legs as they are the first things to suffer.

      Hi Max, unfortunately they didn’t send me the updated version for review. I have a travel tripod review in the Laing where I compare 5 travel tripods including this one, and out of the five this is actually the most cost effective and best value. I compare this against the peak design travel tripod, the new Gazelle by Ifootage, Freewells the real travel tripod, and K&F travel tripod.

    Looks an interesting design Ben. My only observation/question would be where would you consider using it as stripping and cleaning might be a requirement for some people.

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a valid question Jim, as I have not tried to dismantle it (which would have to be done from the top of the legs) to see how to maintain it. It’s great innovation though, which I hope makes its way into the larger tripods also.

    Do they have a photo version with a ball head ?

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately not yet. This currently comes as a kit so you would be paying for the video head only to swap it out for a ball-head. Hopefully they provide options in the near future.

      Sirui, has the Tripod Traveler X-II with a ball head. My biggest concern is the stability of the tripod.

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jospeh, thanks for pointing this out. I will take credit for that, as I asked them to make a version of it with a ball head! Awesome. I have used and own many tripods, some heavy, some carbon fibre, some travel tripods and they all have a purpose. Tell me what kit you intend on supporting and what you are shooting (long exposure in sinking sand for example!) and I can let you know whether this will do the job.

      @@benharveyphotography I have a Canon R6 and the Rf100 - 500 which I am taking to Costa Rica and I'll be mostly in the rainforest. So, the ground will be muddy. I'll be shooting landscapes and wildlife. Some long exposures for waterfalls.

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joseph, I have used quite a few travel tripods, and although they can support the weight of your set up, which is in the region of 2kg, I think you will be better off with a ‘medium’ size tripod. Something like the Sirui ST-124 that I use for landscapes is more robust. I would not be putting a large tele zoom lens on a travel tripod for long periods of time or expecting it to remain stable in moving waters, and not sinking! I am going travelling soon, with the Sony A7iv and the 20-70 (only one camera and one lens) and I will be taking this Sirui traveller X as I know that the whole setup is travel friendly.

    Great mechanism, but the max load of 5kg max load is a bit scant.

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s always a compromise when you create a travel tripod, you just have to weigh up the priorities. My heaviest kit is 2.5kg, so I would be comfortable mounting that on this tripod, providing I am not in windy conditions and sinking sand.

  • @DuskoJovic

    You can buy Ulanzi F38 quick release system. It is cheap but very sturdy and you can easily install the base plate on any head and make all tripods and gimbal compatible. Camera plate can be slide into base on any side so you can place the camera with cage on any way you want. Also you will get more height for accessing the knobs and locks more easily. Hope it helps. Anyway nice review. I am looking for compact travel tripod and this new aircross-x type looks interesting but I am not sure how long will last this way of leg locking.

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for leaving a comment. I am aware of the Ulanzi system as I ‘had to’ use it for a compatible quick release plate on my Zhiyun Crane M3 gimbal, as no one else makes a plate compatible with it but Ulanzi. I prefer the Peak design capture clip though as I can operate that with one hand. The Ulanzi I have to use both hands have use the release switch is on the other side?!?

      Hello, I have only just seen this message, sorry for late response. I use the tripod all the time - indoors and outdoors but I haven’t been taking it in the sea or copious amounts of mud to comment on whether the legs would stick in these sorts of conditions. My legs are still functioning like they were day 1.
