Taking the Rhine Christmas cruise with my daughters and my granddaughter in 2024. I was on the this cruise in April of last year it was amazing I loved every moment of it.

We too will be using the long-term parking at CLT after driving in from Morganton this winter for the Christmas Market tour with Viking. In July, we were going to fly out of Newark back to home but our flight was cancelled and the next one would be two days later, so we had to rent a car and drive back. Great video showing the sights minus the Christmas kiosks. It should be colder, but hopefully there will be...bacon...lol. We did the Grand European tour with Viking in 2019 and they are great. Thanks for the preview.

We got as far as Newark Airport, and my wife began feeling sick, over the course of the layover she developed more symptoms and we decided the responsible thing to do would be to turn around. Flew back to Pittsburgh, got her home, and she was positive for Covid. It was a tough call, but we could not risk the health of the other travelers on the plane and ship. Thank you so much for asking. We are hoping to get there this spring.
@@christophertriola5807 oh no!!!!!! I'm so sorry to hear that! Hopefully your wife is on the mend! It's definitely disappointing when you do all of that planning and get so close to the finish line, only to be dealt a setback. :( My wife and I had a similar experience just this week (although not health related). We were supposed to be traveling for an Alaska cruise out of Vancouver, but our flight from Dallas had problems. We were supposed to fly out a day before our cruise, but that flight was cancelled due to severe weather, so I quickly booked another flight out for the next morning, but that flight was delayed so much due to the same weather problems, that I figured we would never make the embarkation cutoff of 3pm, what with getting off the plane in Vancouver, going through customs, gathering luggage and getting a taxi to the cruise port. So, we got off that plane in Dallas and worked on getting a flight back home. Since our cruise left from Vancouver, there was no way to 'skip' that port of embarkation due to the Passenger Carrier Act, so we would not have been able to meet the ship at a future port. We hope to get to Alaska sometime in the future, but that will depend on whether the travel insurance reimburses us or not. Thanks for replying. I wish you and your wife the best for future travels. If you do get to go on a Rhine cruise, I love to know how it turned out for you! Take care!

A lot of the video was recorded on a GoPro and has a wide landscape aspect ratio of 16:9. You are probably referring to parts that were recorded on an iPhone in vertical mode which is 9:16 resulting in the left and right side being black. Some people use side blurring techniques to make the vertical mode look more like landscape mode. Thank you for watching!
@@scotthodgin7494 Thanks for the detailed reply. I strongly suggest that in future you only shoot in horizontal mode. Side blurred shots are similarly a waste. I just skip over the vertical shots until I get tired of it, then go to another vlog.

Thank you for watching! I’m afraid I don’t have an opinion about which side of the ship is the best. There are definitely sights to see on both sides and the ship is small enough so it’s easy to walk around. Since our cabin was below the waterline, we didn’t spend very much time in our room.

We did not have any flight cancellations. Masks were optional. And you had to be fully vaccinated but there was nothing about boosters at that time. Thanks for watching!

Video was interesting but I wonder if they gained at least 20 pounds each cruising down the Rhine. A few meal post would have been sufficient. Evidently their purpose was to concentrate on their meals .
