About 25 years ago a group of us construction workers were on an elevator coming down from the top floor and then David Crosby came on the elevator. Everyone started whispering that's David Crosby. I watched him smile at the recognition. a few floors below he got out. I held the door for a few seconds and then yelled YO he turned and I said don't forget to tell your wife that you were on the elevator with Tom Bradford today. he looked at me and cracked up and said that's good my friend I'll make sure I do that. We all laughed our balls off, it was kind of cool.
Haha, I had a similar experience, Grand Rapids, Michigan, '88, I think. I was looking down, guy gets on, steps right in front of me, turns his face to the door. Now I have a semi bald guy, curly white hair in front of me. Full bodied. I'm saying to myself, this is David Crosby. Goes up two floors, see him in profile, and I'm sure its him. It was. And I couldn't say a word.
I'll be 66 this year and this song does bring tears to my eyes. In 1989 there was a Byrds reunion and I was lucky enough to attend one of the three shows. Each member came out seperately at the beginning of the show and play one song before the entire band kicked into it. Crosby played "Almost Cut My Hair" By now deceased best friend Bruce and eye just looked at each other, thinking of all the fights we'd had with our parents about hair, and how the po-lice used to pull us over just for having long hair. We felt vindicated, by god.
Stills needs to fuck the strat off and play it on the jazzmaster like it should be played.... Totally different sound.... Coke head still sounds good though....
@@jimlamanna9712 have to disagree with you on half of that statement just because a member of a band is a jerk doesn't mean the band sucks John Lennon neglected his first son most of his life but I don't love the Beatles any less due to that fact

I always knew Crosby had a great voice but it's even more phenomenal than I had ever imagined, especially with his improvisation. Have never seen them perform live. Just awesome.
I just didn't know David Crosby could still hit those notes, damn, these guys know the magic, I listen to them and they keep that mystic, they found some truth, they found something that have kept them bringing magic, super strong souls.
RIP Mr. Crosby, your beautiful music will carry your soul on forever in this world. We were all so lucky to have lived in a time to enjoy and appreciate all and any endeavor you chose. Thank you.
Almost brings tears to my eyes listening to this. I’m barely 39 and wish so much music like this was still made. Cheers to all the old timers going strong to this day. Thanks for paving the way for some of us! May you all be blessed with many more years!
So damn good! Stephen Stills is incredible all the way through. And David Crosby singing the Blues as beautifully as its ever been sung. And, of course, Graham Nash holding it all together with no need for the spotlight. Such a classic performance!
I was 16yrs old when I fell in love with Crosby Stills Nash & Young! There Music touched my Heart like no other! I'm Crying as I hear Davids..Almost Cut My Hair!! Oh!! R.I.P my old friends!! I'll see you again...in Paradise 🌹🎵🌹🎵🌹🎵🌹🎵🌹
I'm 56. I had long hair and a beard through high school (well, the long hair anyway) and college, and then not knowing what else to do with my BA in Anthropology, became a naval officer. In the 25 years I was in, I always pushed the outside of the envelope with regard to "grooming standards." I retired as a Captain back in 2003, and been wearing my hair long and a beard ever since. Some things just never lose their attraction and letting one's "freak flag fly" was always one for me.
Amazing how these guys still rock!!! Crosby's voice is better than ever, stills is still going strong and as someone said earlier, Nash is the glue that holds everything together. Fantastic, and it has notthing to do with retirement or nostalgia. It's classic and of all times!
No one can dispute the fact that if you grew up during the '60s and '70s and listening to their music, you grew up in the best of times. The times today, are a shit-show compared to those days gone by.
After all the years, all the drugs, all the girls, all the concerts, and the illness it's amazing and wonderful that David Crosby has such a belly-full of soul and the mates to back him in the groove on this rendition of a great protest song.
Every time I listen to this song, my eyes develop this terrible leak... such soulful passion resonates with at least SOME members of the newer generations. I am one of these, but I would rest easier at night if I knew there were many others like me. I have so much respect for the movement that yielded such talented social commentary; I wish more bands today would pick up the flag and the cause. We need MARCHING music, not simple entertainment! They're entertaining us to death (or at least numbness)! "Oh, when will they ever learn?"
Sheryl Moore I'm 13 and a huge fan of them. I saw them at Oakdale on their tour. They still play with the same passion, belief, and soul that they had when they first played in the '60s.
Certainly one of the most iconic "moments" in the history of rock music. An incredible song performed in majestic fashion by three of rock's greatest guitarists and voices ever. I always watch this video in absolute awe, but emotional about what was, never to be again. What a man David was! And what a loss his demise was to humanity. #Respect Cheers from South Africa. 🇿🇦
I haven't heard one person comment on the reason why Croz wrote this song in 1969. I'm 70 years old and I remember. He wrote it for all the guys trapped in The Vietnam War who needed to come home.
Crosby, Stills and Nash - the evergreen trio! Can't believe they perform with such precision even at this ripe age. Hats off to these cream of artists!
yes, the joy of making music together - kurt vonnegut once wrote that mercy is a very good idea, and that he hoped that someday humankind would receive a second good idea - he suspected it had something to do with music - my guess is that it's something like "listen to each other, play in tune and in time, do it from your heart, be a part of something bigger than yourself"
RIP David-- What a brilliant musician- will not see his like again. And to think I just cut my hair yesterday, but I guess next time I do I will wait one more day. Rest easy sir and thanks
Funny, I think I have listened more to CSN more as they have aged then I did when I was younger. I have always loved the 60's and 70's music but for some reason I think they have aged like fine wine. I'm sure others would disagree but that's my opinion for what it's worth.
+Charles Carter I think you are right those guys are as or more interesting as they were before. This version of almost cut my hair is probably the best. But I think you can't beat the vibe of the Crosby and Nash BBC concert.
This song never fails to remind me to "Let my freak flag fly" I almost cut my hair abbot once a month but then I think of this song and what it was all about.....Thanks DC
David Crosby has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard..Stills plays a real guitar. One of the few that can switch from acoustic to electric with meaning. Nash fills in the spaces perfectly..very perfectly

The absolute ultimate "FUCK YOU!!!" song!!! If you can't be moved by this song especially considering David Crosby's life the last 40 plus years, you aren't alive. The best harmony group hands down. With or without Neil.
