@@coryander4918 he was; when i was in high school in the early 2000s, literally everyone i knew adored them, but of the folks i know who were into him then, nobody really keeps up with him. he's associated with a lot of people's youthful angsty period, and as everyone mellowed in their 20s and 30s, he became more a fond memory of having felt super intensely as a younger person, the sort of intensity that's kind of untenable for most people in adult life.
which i think is highly unfortunate, because upside mountain, ruminations, the BOCC record are all great, and for being the best songwriter of a generation, dude deserves much greater and continuing esteem. the boomers continuously held dylan aloft, but millenials have mostly let conor go it seems. i don't think poets can make as powerful of work without attention. but perhaps the fact that a poet isn't enthralling a mass audience any longer means they've ceased to speak to the zeitgeist in the same way

Not so sure about pills. He's talked openly about psychedelics. There's an interview with Tim Kasher where he talks about growing up in Omaha made them all heavy drinkers. Around this time he was going through a divorce, a death, and a tour. Since this aired he's spoken about how Ruminations / Salutations albums were dark times for him and how he gave up sleeping.

  • @jasonthefates7311

Lyrics hmmm I think it's cool when others misconstrued lyrics and make it there own. It's a beautiful piece of art. Example: Human Sadness by Julian Casablancas & the Voidz. Age means shit when what you write reaches one person. Music has no age limit. I think song writing like life and other art goes through the ages or like school. You write what's relevant to you. Whether a freshman or senior or like Stipe apart the alumni. Conor has yet to lose his ego and well that's a whole mother. And of course Trump knocks. Come on already. BE FOR REAL NOT SHEEP
