i was fortunate enough to have my grandmother be in town and buy one for me as sort of a going to college present. i don't think i'll ever need another guitar it's perfect. i'll definitely get more in the future, but it will never be to upgrade, only for fun really.
@AgentSpiral Chris said he did study music at college, but when he writes he doesn't actively use theory most of the time. I think maybe he just has an incredible ear for melody.
@jayfraser 0987. thanx a lot man. i heard that solo in the song and i just told my self i have to learn that shit. i just got some bareknuckle aftermath pickups in my seven string so imma try them out.
@alexismorche Chris is really nice to his fan.. He even take the time to properly reply a question from fans which surprise me, since not lot of band do that kind of thing. Go to his channel and add him on Facebook and you'll see what i mean.
Very first song is called whales. I never heard these guys til I seem this video. Immediately bought the album. Unfortunately not exactly what I was hoping for but good musicians for sure.
Golden Rule: To be in a modern prog band,one of your guitarists has to play a 7 string JP signature (e.g. Mark Holcomb, Travis LeVrier, Aaron Marshall)
@dragonreborn7 Other than AAL which has been said, there's After The Burial, and I think Born of Osiris said there were going to use 8 strings at some point if they didn't already
@dragonreborn7 i know this isnt djent prog or anything but whitechapel uses 8's and the acacia strain does now, all the other bands people have said except born of osiris only uses 7's molotov solution uses 8's too, and a lot more i cant remember
@Limits55555 I mean in the highest school, they must have the deepest secrets of composition and I would see what they can show to us, but I think you are not higher than another if you have been in one of these school, so It's a bit weird to ask that, you can play with a lot of awesomness without a foot in a school of music.
@hiddenoath Nah, that's his custom 7. He does however have TWO custom 8's both from Mike, the Blue Bomber and the one with the quilted maple (not sure) top.
@Limits55555 I'm really intersted by seeing what the school like Berklee can purpose, I think they have an awesome program but even the skill, you can learn to play guitar really deep in your room, on your bed.
@xtheangelx At this technical level in guitar playing they could probably play freebird with their eyes closed. If your a guitar player you should know that. I've never listened to these guys but 1:00 into the video its obvious to see how skilled they are. And Eric Johnson Cliffs of Dover is a 10x harder solo to play than free bird if you wanna talk about classic guitar solos.
DANTRON He was stating the opposite, that without their bass player it is lacking. Which is true with STS, because hteir bass player is not being a boring normal bass player that just plays the notes the guitar players are playing but an octave lower. However with a much heavier band, where the guitars are just dominating the air waves, I never notice the bass player unless I actually try and listen just for it, lol.
Mike Scanlan Oh I see. I haven't heard the actual song, but was blown away by this video. I don't like it when bass over influences the way a song sounds on a high output sound system. The only vibration I want to feel is from the kick drum.
you don't need 8 strings, im using a 6 string guitar and i've learned this. In fact its quite easy, i find the hammer ons for the non tapping hand harder lol.
@coolioisafoolio Just type in studio sessions you should be able to find something with their bassist. That's what i always do when i wanna see a band actually play their instruments.
Should be pretty obvious when they name a couple strings, and even if they don't its usually standard E unless stated otherwise. This is a standard tuned 7 string, from low to high BEADGBE. happy days.
Came back to this video after watching it 12 years ago. Chris is an amazing guitar player and definitely an influence on how i play today.
love this song
gorgeous
beautiful.
This is a really great song.
i was fortunate enough to have my grandmother be in town and buy one for me as sort of a going to college present. i don't think i'll ever need another guitar it's perfect. i'll definitely get more in the future, but it will never be to upgrade, only for fun really.

Scale the summit has such a unique sound. Captivating, enchanting, mesmerizing; take your pick.

@alexismorche Chris is really nice to his fan.. He even take the time to properly reply a question from fans which surprise me, since not lot of band do that kind of thing. Go to his channel and add him on Facebook and you'll see what i mean.
@AgentSpiral yeah they did. Berklee i think :O
@MrToad712 indeed sir
@AgentSpiral
yes they did MI
Whales. It is on the album The Collective.
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL INSTRUMENTAL BAND!!!
@tcmr Chris said that, on his 8-string, he tunes it like a 7, but with an extra high G.
Very first song is called whales. I never heard these guys til I seem this video. Immediately bought the album. Unfortunately not exactly what I was hoping for but good musicians for sure.
Seeing them play makes me think they should be in tuxedos at some grand opera house.
@StarFaukes It's an extra high string
Lead sounds Vai inspired. I like this.
Golden Rule: To be in a modern prog band,one of your guitarists has to play a 7 string JP signature (e.g. Mark Holcomb, Travis LeVrier, Aaron Marshall)
Now it's a Strandberg Boden
OneFragLeft or a Keisel
@Iliketacos091 I know Chris went to Burklee ...pretty sure Travis did too
that shit was brilliant
skilled.
@dragonreborn7 Other than AAL which has been said, there's After The Burial, and I think Born of Osiris said there were going to use 8 strings at some point if they didn't already

@IbanezShreds
The 7 has a low B in this video, I think they use a high A on their 8s.
@bubsadoozy fyi, they only have 7 strings each, the only band i can think of off the top of my head is Meshuggah
@Raven5620 one of the first two songs off their new album. i forgot which atm.
makes me fall in love with guitar all over again
@primusdude87 It was a serious question man.. ahha
Great band. My band is playing with these guys in February in Orlando. Saw them in St. Pete with BTBAM awhile ago as well, great show.
Great work! I love this song. I'm listening to it all day long..... For weeks, from now 🙏
@Lawrbear Perhaps
The opening riff sounds like it was inspired by Satriani's 'Day at the Beach' for sure...
@Raven5620 Alpenglow off of their new album.
So do I, let's do this.
@trollzillalolol It's from a song called "Whales" Off of "The Collective"
@Limits55555 I mean in the highest school, they must have the deepest secrets of composition and I would see what they can show to us, but I think you are not higher than another if you have been in one of these school, so It's a bit weird to ask that, you can play with a lot of awesomness without a foot in a school of music.

@hiddenoath lol, sorry for nerding out on you, I kinda know way too much about guitarists and their gear :P
@tcmr Ah. I knew they had a weird tuning somewhere. Thank you sir.
@Limits55555 I'm really intersted by seeing what the school like Berklee can purpose, I think they have an awesome program but even the skill, you can learn to play guitar really deep in your room, on your bed.
@AgentSpiral Dream Theater, Joe Satriani, Erik Mongrain, Andy McKee
@xtheangelx At this technical level in guitar playing they could probably play freebird with their eyes closed. If your a guitar player you should know that. No dislikes... it.. it can't be..
this is however, sick as fuck
u guys should be touring with AAL
@SomeRandomCrackhead custom sherman 8 string
@ImIntoAnimals It's called Whales
this is soooo....
wonderful
buy all their albums and listen to all their songs, you'll find it eventually....
I think they're replying to the dude who asked about the song in the beginning of the video.
I like how you really see what your missing when you the bass isn't present. If that makes sense
I agree. Bass guitar is unnecessary for making good music.
DANTRON He was stating the opposite, that without their bass player it is lacking. Hey there, got your Bachelors in YT grammar huh?
you don't need 8 strings, im using a 6 string guitar and i've learned this. In fact its quite easy, i find the hammer ons for the non tapping hand harder lol.
@idkfa94 aha its cool, i wouldve done the same. im just more used to seeing chris with the 8 string when he did videos lol
@Raven5620
Its a track called "Whales"
Its not alpenglow
Why aren't these guys at spotify?!?!
FUCKKK I NEED A SEVEN STRINGS GUITAR
@coolioisafoolio Just type in studio sessions you should be able to find something with their bassist. That's what i always do when i wanna see a band actually play their instruments.
