Trent Hafdahl and Justin Lowe from After the Burial demo their eight-string riff-fest, "My Frailty," from In Dreams in this exclusive Guitar World video.
I saw these guys play one night. After their set, I jokingly heckled them that they couldn't shred all eight strings. I was sorely mistaken. These guys are amazing guitarists. A lot of people don't understand just how technical this stuff is. Listen to Pi (The Mercury God of Infinity) and tell me you could remember that picking pattern. And let alone the fact that they play flawlessly live, perfect unison. It's pretty impressive. Music isn't just notes, it's numbers too.
Hey Hank.. You know I’m just reminiscing on some Justin Lowe materials. But the reason I’m writing you is because I haven’t seen you on the usual channels I once used to see your witty comments on years ago. Just wondering if you’re okay? Lol
i fucking love the pineapple, these guys are awesome. Breath of fresh air to see people who are making kick ass music, who also have a sence of humor, why take everything so seriously!
saw them live back in early summer along with Winds of Plague and As I lay Dying, still can't believe I got the opportunity to see such an amazing show!
Btw, if anyone else is wondering, the only decent tab on UG is wrong for Trents solo part where he does the rise up. Its tabbed as a 3 note sequence but it's actually a 4 note sequence with the pattern fret space fret fret space fret. Same roots tho.
@MrCl1nt Yes, some of their songs are played on 8-string guitars. Aspiration. But you can CLEARLY see that some of their songs are played on 7-string guitars, like "My Frailty." It says at the very beginning of the video, "7-string tuning - Drop Ab."
"Trent Hafdahl and Justin Lowe from After the Burial demo their eight-string riff-fest, "My Frailty," from In Dreams in this exclusive Guitar World video." *ATB proceeds to play My Frailty using only 7 strings...* Nice GuitarWorld. Nice.
@paucceri its for ehrn your finger tapping it dosent affect the other strings so the string your tapping is the only string making the noise opposed to if you where to barely hit the other strings your not trying to hit/play it would distort the sound completely
yeah I got to see then again live and talked to the guys the guitars are tuned like drop Ab/G# and the 8th string is an F. but the lowest note onthe bass is G# and he actually plays the same octave as the guitars when they use the bottum string just like Meshuggah.
@rhythmkeeper009 you can see they're playing through Axe-fx's so that's probably what's been used for everything. I don't know if you can record straight from them
Actually, he does that, from what I know, because, since he's tapping out those sweep patterns instead of picking them like Trent does, he's using his hand as a rest on the strings to make sure none of the notes ring out.
Rio Justin. But Ive got to know the tuning on that pineapple. I always struggle with that order of fruit. And what a lovely array of Ibanez. Wonder where they all went after Justin.
that pineapple has more sound effects than my amp... I may need to invest in a pineapple
You will never be forgotten Justin
Man Justin always cracked me up when he was sweating from that solo. You will be missed brother and my you rest in peace.
Hey same profile pic lmao
+rskat501 half a year later and you both still have the same profile pic lmao!

How do I get that guitar tone? That effect is awesome! Does anyone know the setup?
@MrCl1nt

"Trent Hafdahl and Justin Lowe from After the Burial demo their eight-string riff-fest, "My Frailty," from In Dreams in this exclusive Guitar World video."
*ATB proceeds to play My Frailty using only 7 strings...*
Nice GuitarWorld. Nice.
that outro riff is like ultimate win.....
Miss this duo! Rip
haha these guys have an awesome sense of humor!
awesome!!!
haha awesome. Most entertaining guitar lesson ever!
Good ol pineapple trigger! Diggin the whistle also!!! After the Burial are the shit!!
what was that song at the very beginning opening cutscene?
Scrimp Nasty your troubles will cease
where do you go to to get your guitars refinished like this. I want my 8 string to look like that pink one!!
Anybody know what the interface is they're using for patching the guitar through to Logic?
that was the shit they totally had a Cacophony album in the background, and yeah that electric pineapple was pretty sweet too
Does anyone know what model pineapple he's using?
Them 8 strings are HUGE!
Never knew you could get some many sounds from a pineapple. These guys are talented!
does anyone know what kind of ibanez the pink 8 string is?
Funny dudes, and good music
@scrotzki789 what does he actually do? just hold on to the neck, or does he actually touch the strings? wouldn't that change the key a bit?
these guys write the best solos
@paucceri its for ehrn your finger tapping it dosent affect the other strings so the string your tapping is the only string making the noise opposed to if you where to barely hit the other strings your not trying to hit/play it would distort the sound completely
Ah love the pantera you put in there
were do i get a PINK ibanez prestige like that?
@GameKid98 isn't it called the Ibanez RG2228 prestige?
these guys are talented as fawk and hilarious!
Rest In Peace Justin Lowe....
YES!!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!
whats that song that they play in the beggining to introduce them !!!
Does anyone know what brand pineapple their using?
@gianniswildchild Ibanez UV777BK is the black/silver one. And the natural finish one, as well as the one in the back, are Ibanez RG2228s.
You make it look easy :P
thank you sir!
how bout those axe presets for a fellow axer?
Still missing you Justin ✌️ rip
yeah I got to see then again live and talked to the guys the guitars are tuned like drop Ab/G# and the 8th string is an F. but the lowest note onthe bass is G# and he actually plays the same octave as the guitars when they use the bottum string just like Meshuggah.

and the sweeps after the individual solos?
@paucceri i think its to get rid of overtones whyle playing hammer ons or pull offs ive seen it often during two handed tapping parts
And which programme's good in your opinion to record ?
what guitar is justin using the whole time? the 7 string ibanez with the 2 humbuckers and the single coil.
@Chandlorexia It's actually called "roadflare red". It changes color in different light.
@skatedude724 i think its an rg2228 with a custom extra cutaway for his leg
@Klimpmeister yeah it's in drop a flat. The seventh string is a B and they drop it a 1/2 step.
Where'd they get the Pineapple and Banana MIDI triggers from?
that the coolest pineapple/banana i've ever seen! it makes so many sounds :D
miss you Justin
where is the left guitar's cable?
Dat pineapple o_o no, seriously, very catchy riffage! Amazing work.
Rio Justin. But Ive got to know the tuning on that pineapple. I always struggle with that order of fruit. And what a lovely array of Ibanez. Wonder where they all went after Justin.
@TheAdviceMeister Trent has a pink one, Justin as a green one. they're both custom made by ibanez for After the Burial
why does he hold on to the neck at 4:27-> ? I've seen lots of guitarists do it but I've never reallyu known why...
fucking love these guys
I approve of the pineapple abuse :-)
what take of glass was that from? i didnt hear it.
what is the song in the beginning?
@danielFX92 im guessing it was a tropical e100
Why didn't they demo the sweep section at the end :(
