@@HidingFromFate not sure it was back then. (EX: most bands "FIX" "live" performances, b/c running around etc means it ain't gonna sound good. Not sure VH had FAKE backing vocals in concert at the time. The tech would be too crude back then.) PLUS, we can clearly see lots of OTHER suspicious bits, like EVH's guitaring NOT MATCHING THE AUDIO (look at his harmonics during the first guitar solo in the first song), so it's not just the fake backing vocals that are an issue in this video.

What an incredible performance. A band for the ages... I984 was my first concert at the Coliseum in Phoenix, AZ... after that I saw them several times. They always had incredible energy, and would bring the best out of their fans. Thanks for the memories Ed!
Van Halen was the ultimate party band! Diamond David Lee Roth was the last Rock stud who mixed true showmanship with insane vocals. Eddie was the last guitar God in the line of Hendrix. Record companies have killed off true talent like Van Halen to push corporate created dumbed down artists. Hopefully, in time the cradle will rock once more!

@@alicesaid9761…...I just see now he's doing a 9 day Vegas "residency". I gotta think it's going to be horrible because as you say he really does sound horrible as at lest did the last time I heard him sing a couple years ago.
I would refute that statement about Dave. I just saw him open for KISS last week! Him and his band were ON-POINT! He look and sounded GREAT! For his age, he moves (and kicks) and sings exceptionally well. In fact, he sounded better than he did in 2007 when VH reunited with Eddie's son, Wolfie on bass..
I'll never forget EVH!!! ONE OF THE BEST Musician's EVER!!!!!!! I can tell how much he loved playing with his bro & son Wolf. He was a kind soul!! Damn!! My heart still aches and hurts! Eddie Van Halen doesn't have to cut his hair...the rest is Rock and roll history in the making still....blows me away
They were absolutely amazing and ferocious at this time and they could do no wrong. There will never be another Van Halen and I'm glad that I got to witness them live , amazing. 👍🔥🤘
EVH carved an all American music & love how he made the guitar scream & cry! Such a great group that rocks!!! No other rock group can match them! Sadly, this will not repeat again, without EVH. Alex's drumming is awesome too! Every one of them I so talented.

DLR was the missing link between Robert Plant and Prince. A natural born performer, at the height of his powers no metal vocalist from that period could match him. As for EVH, what more can be said? Gone, not ever to be forgotten.
Van Halen was never Metal. Don't give a fuck what documentary you saw that told you such nonsense, but metal they are not. One of the best rock and roll bands ever? Yes heavy metal band? Nope
The very First time I saw Van Halen in concert was 1979 at the Angels Stadium in Anaheim CA. They made their grand stage appearance by parachuting out of the sky and landing on the stage, although I'm sure it wasn't them though they were wearing jump suits. It was quite the spectacle!
Eddie was so unique. Nobody could replicate his style and sound that he created from nothing. I've seen dozens of Eruption and other videos by fans on the youtubes but not a single one is close. Many have some chops but none of the soul and always missing beats or notes. He was a legend we got to see though it all. Glad I saw him live.
I used to save up all my babysitting and lawn mowing money to see these guys. Fought my way to the barrier to stand in front of EVH. It was an honor to watch him play. RIP Edward. We love you
My favorite studio and especially live was deep purple. Period . Also rainbow , UFO and triumph. those were the best bands I ever seen live . Then I would say Judas priest van Halen acdc and kiss. Those were the days. Also Molly hatchet dio were great live
I was there. Hot as holy hell that day. Had to park miles away from the stage, and they just jammed the cars in any way they would fit. Once you parked, you couldn’t leave. Jesus freaks passing out pamphlets and people tossing them as soon as they got them. People selling drugs as you went in. Cops just looking the other way. Ah, it was the 80’s at Devore!
I remember all the same things, remember getting sprayed by the water hose to cool off? What a great day of music! So glad I got to be there as an 18 year old kid.
I was there too and I remember when Rob Halford screamed so loud that the speakers all the way in the back almost exploded and you could see him look up and smile
I was 17 and lucky enough to see Van Halen on their 1978 tour. Their first helmet had just come out and I'd been playing it nonstop since I bought it. Fast forward a few years and I was visiting my cousin in California and he had tickets to the US Festival for the day Van Halen headlined. Those were the only times I caught the original band live. Magic Memories 🎶🎶 Rest In Paradise Edward ❣️
Aaaaawwww, that was Really Cool, seeing the brothers standing there and singing together was so Beautiful, you can tell they really had Love for each other. I totally understand the pain Wolfie is feeling and his wife Janie but Alex spent his whole life with Eddie, growing up together, touring & playing in the band together, loosing his little brother and best friend, just so Heartbreaking💔. Rejoice In Paradise Sweet Eddie🎸
I have to admit I have never been a fan of Dave's, but he was the ultimate showman and front man indeed... What an incredible show and ride....Eddie as simply amazing.... I've never seen a guitarist so happy to be performing on stage....
This might be the worst DLR performance ever recorded. He was piss drunk doing press before the show. He can't do his kicks. He stumbles around and forgets lyrics. Go watch Oakland 1981 and see what he's like when he's on his game.
@@mjwbulich if you get a chance, watch the Largo 1982 show here on TH-cam. That is the true mighty Van Halen at their best. It’s the complete show and you will not be disappointed. If I was the lead singer of Van Freaking Halen as we said in the 80's I would be arrogant as well. How could you not be? Free women, drugs, everything and everybody kissing your ass.
I was there as well. The whole band was pretty drunk. I'd seen them 3 times prior to this and they were a mess on this night. Didn't help to have a 2 hour wait after a flawless Scorpions set.

I was at the concert at the Cow Palace in SF on this tour, probably within a week or two of this taped performance. Dave was trashed and drank on stage. But what a fantastic show!!!
No one rocked out like this band. No One. Best at their craft and big big big rock style. Ed and Alex were a machine together, a f*cking machine, out of control. Daves' F*ck the concert let's go across the free way and get a drink what do you say. was Epic and timed perfect. Crank it up its the only way!
Have to disagree to just disagree. My favorite slur of Dave's that night was, "Throw one more thing up here, and I'm coming down there and fucking your girl friend!" I was at that shit fest, hotter then hell, dusty sandy windy (depending on where you were I guess) all the awhile watching the show on a TV a half mile away. But the best band there that day was Priest! Oh ya I forgot to mention the complete shortage of available water, but the assholes were selling small bottles of it for $5 each. Mind you that was back in 83, when I could go to a bar and catch a good buzz for $5

I saw them, Memphis TN, 3rd row Midsouth coliseum, Truly one of the best shows I have ever seen!! Eddie and the His talent will be missed, but will never die... Thanks for sharing this recording.
I have almost every Van Halen record. I was saddened by David Lee Roth's departure. Sammy Hagar is very nice, but he couldn't replace David. But Van Halen will always be one of the best rock bands in the US. All band members were equally important.
I don't know if you ever saw them with Dave at a live show. After the release of Diver Down he was terrible vocally. It wasn't about the music anymore , it was about him. Sammy didn't have that with them. The shows and the music were spot on and the vocals perfect....even with Gary Cherone the show was better live than with Dave. Don't get me wrong the studio versions are priceless. l

Same here buddy but I rock the F out of the 80s music still
This was VH in their prime. Insanely charismatic front man, arguably the best guitarist of the day, and the best background vocals in rock. Woz and company got it right at the US Festival.
Insane? yes. Charismatic? no. Dave was a high energy, goof ball. Nothing arguable about Eddie. He was INDISPUTABLY the best guitarist ANY day.
Charismatic.. can’t think of a better word to describe DLR
DLR is DLR! Probably the best frontman of the era!

They almost sound too good. Michael is a great backing vocalist, but I'm thinking some taped voices here!

It was about 110 degrees that day- best weekend ever! I still have my souvenir T-Shirt from the US Festival.
WhatWouldHouseDo I don’t remember it being that hot but I do remember that guy that brought out the whiskey! Pretty soon David was performing pretty badly. @@HidingFromFate not sure it was back then. (EX: most bands "FIX" "live" performances, b/c running around etc means it ain't gonna sound good. Not sure VH had FAKE backing vocals in concert at the time. The tech would be too crude back then.)
PLUS, we can clearly see lots of OTHER suspicious bits, like EVH's guitaring NOT MATCHING THE AUDIO (look at his harmonics during the first guitar solo in the first song), so it's not just the fake backing vocals that are an issue in this video.
Nobody jumped like David love him and nobody played guitar like Eddie . Rest In Peace Beautiful man Amen 🙏
Impossible to believe that this was almost 40 years ago. Something about that just ain't right, is it? Get your house in order, fellow rockers.
Yep..its time

We're as far away from that concert as that concert was from World War II, which in 1983 was ancient history to us young people.

I know right!!!! ha ha were getting old man ha ha!!! oh well. man they were the biggest band in the world even b4 1984 dropped!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always loved Alex's snare. Mike's incredible vocals. Showman Dave and Legend EVH.
Happy Trails almost brought me to tears. Diver Down was SUCH an iconic album.
What an incredible performance. A band for the ages... I984 was my first concert at the Coliseum in Phoenix, AZ... after that I saw them several times. They always had incredible energy, and would bring the best out of their fans. Thanks for the memories Ed!
The 80's were AWESOME!!! I'd go back in a heartbeat!!!!

I'm 55 too, and it's tragic what age does. Have u seen David Lee Roth lately, it's sad, he looks and sounds alful. It's like the world went on and he stayed back in 1984

They all were born to be rock stars! Straight out of the gate they gave 110% every single show!

It wasn't until the next day as I was looking through TH-cam vids that I found some news footage interview of Eddie and a grown up Wolf in the 5150 studio. The affection of father and son brought tears to my eyes. It's like, I couldn't cry for myself but I could for Wolf. I'm eager to hear his solo album whenever he can release it... I think he'll carry on in his dad's footsteps, at least I hope he does. Eddie will live on in his music and our hearts! RIP EVH

David's voice is so suited to rock 'n roll!
EVH carved an all American music & love how he made the guitar scream & cry! Such a great group that rocks!!! No other rock group can match them! Sadly, this will not repeat again, without EVH. Alex's drumming is awesome too! Every one of them I so talented.
That jump off the stage, and then with the scream right after was sooooo epic!!! Only Diamond Dave could pull that off.

DLR was the missing link between Robert Plant and Prince.
A natural born performer, at the height of his powers no metal vocalist from
that period could match him. As for EVH, what more can be said?
Gone, not ever to be forgotten.
Your right! We will miss Eddie forever, but Dave's charisma was undeniable.
Van Halen was never Metal. Don't give a fuck what documentary you saw that told you such nonsense, but metal they are not. One of the best rock and roll bands ever? Yes heavy metal band? Nope
Rob Halford did more than match him that very afternoon.
Mix between plant and prince is the best comparison I’ve heard
Meh....Bruce Dickinson easily matched him
There's one VAN HALEN
The one with the original line up!
At the top of their game!!!
The very First time I saw Van Halen in concert was 1979 at the Angels Stadium in Anaheim CA. They made their grand stage appearance by parachuting out of the sky and landing on the stage, although I'm sure it wasn't them though they were wearing jump suits. It was quite the spectacle!
And that my friends is why mike was needed for the background vocal !
I was there....It was a great time to BE ALIVE!
Best decision I made was seeing them live in Vegas in 2012. So glad I went. He was amazing live. Worth every penny.
