Stay low Look for the right moment to attack Contained Pressure while facing their back. Nudge for the air, and time it right First touch is important Look for space Close down space, Play smart Think about when to take risks.
I'm just learning soccer so that I can coach my son's team, having not watched more than a few minutes of a game in my life. After watching your videos, not only am I excited to coach, I want to find a team I can play on. Thanks man!
JOHN you are the best, you are the best footballer player because of GOOD PLAYERS INSPIRE THEMSELVES GREAT PLAYERS INSPIRE OTHERS and you are also a best youtuber
Absolutely correct at 05:19, do not release your attacker once you have closed him/her down from behind. Two major things might happen: 1) He/she is good enough to get behind you and resumes attack or you end up winning the ball and counter. You can also win the battle by forcing him/her to an error like a throw-in coming to you.
Yess!!! i learned more from this video then my football teacher im either a cb or a rb and i once tackled a player and did things like u said so and we won!!
My little 9 year old brother is currently playing right back for his team. I was always a number 9 but im 28 now and haven't played in a few years. Every weekend we go to the astro and train for a few hours, problem is I only know things from an attackers pov, its hard converting that into proper lessons. These are great. I like that you keep stuff simple and you know your stuff. if anyone knows a good way to teach/communicate these concepts to a young kid let me know. He is fully willing to learn and I'm willing to learn how to teach more effectively xD
1. Find attacker 2. Defensive shape 3:13 How to win battles 3:40 1. Win 1v1s 4:10 2. Win the air 6:14 3. Ball out on offense/ Become an offensive threat 7:44
Last comment: Some Teams overly play possession starting with the backs, to the point they lull you to sleep, they’ll string up 20 passes around the field before they decide to penetrate but end up losing the ball. Scoring goals is also very important and very exciting to the fans-watching and for that to happen you need quicker penetration and fewer back drops. Meaning like coach at 08:53, receive the ball clean and pass it to your target as soon as it is possible; your aim should be to engage your target or striker rather than playing a keep away game with no real aim to be a scoring threat. Weigh out your passing options, your striker is first option on the pass and rest comes after.
I used to be a starter in my team when we played 4 in the back. This continued with 3 in the back but, at this time I was playing with people of 1-3 years of age older than me causing me to lose my starting spot to 3 other older and taller players no to mention that I pushed up to much. Now that our coach has realized that 3 in the back has been a terrible a mistake we play 4 in the back. Since then I’ve been quickly get my spot back, and I recently have been playing 50+ minutes compared to 10-30. An injury I’ve got that prevented me from running for a week which has set me back a little but that ain’t gonna stop me from working hard to play full time as a rb. I dream of get taken by my coach to a tryout at Atlanta United and being allowed to join in the academy but for now I just gotta work even more harder to dominate the kids that are 1-5 years more older than me.
I'm a centre back, and one of the most challenging things for me is positioning. I would say I'm a pretty solid 1v1 defender, but one thing I definetly have to work on as a defender is positioning.
I think that it would be nice if you did a video of tips for winning aerial challenges,as it is an important part of defending, and not everybody is 6'4
@Goluremi Thank you sooo much. My kids are MLS Next and they learn from you. I just saw him use the fake to the inside go up the line move from being "trapped" on the side line the other night in a game. In the car he said it was that video, so thank you.
Love the video. My coach has put me as a wing back and a Right back. I play striker so this has helped. I'm good at scoring. But each coach of mine have always put me in those positions at time's. So I'm confused which position I should stick too. I'm more of an attacking player. My defense needs improvement. Should I stick to wing back in the long run.
Great tips! The one thing that immediately jumped out at me as very weird though, that I would disagree with, is the use of your forearm as a shield when "using your body". I've used my body a lot and quite effectively in defense, for many years. There is no reason to use that "forearm shield" thing you do, especially given how that could easily draw fouls. Just use your body, as in, get right up to or against the player with your torso / chest. That's far more effective, and you can't foul. In addition, you can use your arms to the side (i.e., like wings) to make yourself into an even wider obstacle to get around. The forearm shield thing struck me as really weird because I just can't recall ever seeing (or feeling) anyone do that. So, I generally agree with the "use your body" advice in all the contexts you mentioned, but just minus the "forearm shield" thing, unnecessary and possibly harmful.

Another Great video!! I like how you mix in some defensive training. Every now and then. thanks again.
I almost got lost in the first 3 min. This video is golden. I'm a coach and I will tell the kids to watch this ASAP!!!
Wow..thank you very much for the lesson..I understand better..
Defender and 57 friends are Pepe and Sergio Ramos

I love the vid. Played up front my whole life, doing FB now so the information has been very helpful to understand the position
Right back/Right mid here.....perfect video my guy

Thank You Master❤❤❤❤
Very good tips! Thinking about football in this way is essential. Thank you!
This is the quality content about defending that I need
12:03 when did someone have pins and needles in a game😮that is 10 years in prison💀

great vid.
Yes! I'm a right back! Any ideas on how i can improve my overall skills?
GVBGaming train theres NO shortcuts to succes
I’m a fast LB that is pretty fast but didn’t really have the confidence to push up the field but now I’m gonna play more aggressive
Don’t know why im watching this my team can’t even get on the field

Thanks for the video. It really helped me.

My team had none of our right-backs one game, so my coach played me as right-back. its now my now my new position.
Can relate💀
who else plays forward but is watching this video because they know nothing about defending?

I’m a cdm so this helps aswell
Why are my skills getting worse when im working on them and why they feel better when i haven't played in a while?
As u r not working coordination of the team
Or u might using the skill on wrong
GVBGaming you might be overtraining yourself, rest is also important for a football player, you can't just train and train and train everyday
I have that same problem sometimes
I feel like it's your anticipation that builds up
Great video mate!!
