    I've practiced Savate for only 6 months after having practiced other styles during about 5 years and I've noticed a significant improve in my defense. Specially because where I practiced I had to spar every day. In the beginning I came home with my ear ringing every day. At the end of the six months I'd practically never get hit in the face, and I was hitting my opponents a lot more too.

      That's because it teaches you to study the footwork when on defense or striking , and when you adjust to the timing of your opponent , it can allow you to manage distance .. And when you manage the distance , you can manage the damage .

  • @elvirusdnb3044

    Savate is way the more fast and dynamic of the fighting arts. The concept is to make the opponent to fail, and to punish him, not using strenght but finding the sensible points. The golden rule is to attack always with at least 3 hits, the first hit is to make your opponent open and then you hit with the tip of the shoes (damnly hard) on liver, stomac, ribs, tendon, always finishing with front arm/leg in order to keep distance after the attack . Check again what Pennachio does...
    Another thing: in kick boxing and thai is forbidden to use the sole of the foot below the belt. When you receive a kick above the knee with the sole or even worst the heel meanwhile you are going towards your opponent, you knee is over extended, you are stopped, with no guard and balance, completely passive to your opponent. This simple kick is the worst weapon of savate that is never used (or even forbidden) in fighting sports.

      i simply did not understand the purpose of making sounds like that - Pennachio NEVER did like this with his punches/kicks. What did Hergault think - if he makes punch sounds like in a Bruce Lee movie, he would be Bruce Lee? :))))

      grarghov1 The purpose of that is for breathing during striking.
      Just like if you were to lift weights, you breath outward at maximum strain
      Ex: bench press, breath out when pushing bar upward.
      This guy clearly isnt the best, by far. If youd like to see a better representation of Muay Thai. Research Buakaw and Saenchai. They are very adept athletes and fighters. Maybe if you do a little more research you'll see why this "haymaker kick" exists. But as youll notice, thats not the only kick you'll see them throw.

  • @Yongchundaiquan

    Both did a great job although they were both limited by the rules. MT cannot go for the sweep or throw and his elbows and knees were limited to be used during the clinch. Savate guy had the least limitations because his art suits well for the rules, but couldnt use Savate's signature shoes so his kicking power was significantly lowered.
    My reflections on both arts. In my opinion Savate is faster, with better footwork, has more reach and has a much better defense than Muay Thai. However Muai Thai is much more resourceful (eight limbs, clinch, throws and sweeps), develops an outstanding punishment tolerance and generates whole a lot more kicking power, although power difference is reduced when Savate has its shoes on. I still think Muay Thai kicks are stronger.
    Both are great arts and here we are looking at two great fighters.

    MMA fighter? David Hergault is a traditional Muay Thai fighter (Asian Style), which you can see by looking his stance and fighting style: low focus on boxing, high focus on kicking, low focus on combos, high focus on single hits, not very light on his feet.
    This is a good fight to see the difference between the 2 styles.

      @rationale01 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Muay Thai is not low focus on combos. Single attacks in Muay Thai are to stop forward momentum for the most part, unless it's just a blatant opening. Muay Thai combos are 2 and 3 count usually. With 1 punch and a kick, 2 punches and 1 kick or 1 punch and 2 kicks. More than that usually isn't done because Muay Thai has a lot of countering, which stops most combos of more than 2 counts if your defense is tight.

    In Savate you train to take kicks to the legs , instead to defend against them. You lean with you leg in an enemy kick, to take away his speed and room for get hard. That alone makes fighters to really, really strong tanks. Thats why the savate fighter could counter the kickboxers kick like a cheesecake

    For once I'd like to see a match between an elite savateur and an elite practitioner of Muay Thai. Clearly you can see that Pennacchio has a much higher degree of expertise and dominance of Savate than Hergault has of Muay Thai and if not, it seems Hergault was very off his game. It would be amazing to see a proper Thai fighter from Thailand mix it up. The level of speed dexterity and tenacity of the Thai fighters would look great against the flair and agility of the Savateurs. Just my humble opinion.

Although I practice Muay Thai, and think Ramon Dekkers is one of the greatest ever, I have to admit, that Pennachio outclassed him. However, they fought under kickboxing rules, not Muay Thai rules, so Dekkers had his hands tied so to speak. If you watch Samart Payakaroon vs Murat Comert, which was fought under Muay Thai rules, you'll see Comert not do so well.

      savate is a splendid sport combat but many years of films about kick and thay (van damme, chuck norris and so on...) drag away young guys from this discipline, even in france.
      it's not true that there aren't good talent, couse more talents begin with savate but turned into kick (more battles available...). in italy we have champions like angelo valente that begun with savate. but no one knows it.
      i begun with savate by case, 'cause i wanted to do kick but the instructor near home was a savate practicer. it was about '92, full van damme period. but, in the end i feel lucky to begin this art.

    Utiliser sa force physique pour se valoriser c'est afficher sa faiblesse !...
    La compétition c'est de la violence organisé égotique-ment; l'humain naturel doté de qualité physique supérieures à la moyenne les mettra au service de la communauté avec humilité, touché par cette attitude les autres l'écouterons et l'aimerons, jamais il ne commandera, il orientera ... JUSTE par les qualités de l'intelligence du coeur instinctive (humble,loyal, courageux,gratuit) jamais on ne le verra se servir de ses qualités physique "pour faire le beau" en public au détriment d'un autre ...

    I see these comments are old and the fight is VERY old, but c'mon people - this "muay thai" fighter is VERY funny and obviously lacks everything that he should have - his stance and guard are stupid, close to what should be, but wrong. His kicks - if a normal MT fighter kicks even in a block it can just break the arm, if an inappropriate block is done - in our case, i think the kicks of the savate guy were stronger...)))) No thais are holding such guard from maybe the 70's...with all my respect, i like savate a lot, but this just isn't "two styles very clear in this fight". Please watch some Thai fight from whatever year you want and find the 10000 differences...oh and btw, there are A LOT of front kicks in MT, which are maybe even harder to deflect, so this is again only David's problem...

    • @aluisiofsjr
      @aluisiofsjr  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David Hergault trained years in Thailand before this fight. His style is pure asian Muay Thai. Now he teaches in Hong Kong and has a very famous student in MT.

    • @ledlight1487
      @ledlight1487 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, btw, Ramon Dekkers also trained in Thailand a lot, i assume after he understood the difference in training in Europe and there..which, also obviously, doesn't make him "Asian style MT fighter", ALTHOUGH in his fight with monsieur Pennacchio the difference after his kicks is obvious, there were some moments in the match in which Pennacchio is just jumping around after every kick ...I mean, once again, i respect savate a lot, exactly because of the agility and the very quick and complicated to block combinations, BUT there is no way that someone rushes into attacking combination, floating like a butterfly, after an "asian style MT" kick. At least i've never seen that. Conclusion - trained there for some years or not, this is just NOT the thai way, that is why he looks confused and a bit "wooden" all the time, imho.

    • @BeneneMilkshakee
      @BeneneMilkshakee 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, i feel that way as well. Maybe just for this fight but i feel that his guard and stance wasn't firm which opened up for counters. This caused him to have very slow kicks which is never seen in MT. I feel even though he trained for years it was probably the person who trained him which caused him in the lack of offence and defense. I feel this video may be a really good Savate :D presentation (i dont do savate so i can't judge unfairly), but i feel its unfair for people to judge MT's style with this fight.
      I would love to see a fighter which is adapt in Savate vs someone like Saenchai or Singdam to show that MT isn't all just about power, but the timing as well to land a single or 2-3 power combo to stop momentum from an opponent. Or maybe a person who is doing Savate to overcome the strike with combo's which overwhelm an opponent. But i can say that MT fighters focus a lot on counters as well and they make sure each kick lands with their firm stance.
