I don't know if you knew it but Studio Bind (the studio that is in charge of Mushoku animation) was created 3 years ago just for the purpose of animating this series. The production started 3 years ago not only to animate 12 or 24 episodes, but for to make a long running series. They already said that they will animate it for seasons but the fact that they have been preparing a weekly series for 3 years is crazy. A normal movie is usually 4 years or a super production but you just have to look at how each background or movement to know that it is very well cared for.

Well, for Eris's mom hugged Rudeus is because he said that he thought Paul and Zenith gonna come, but they cannot come to his 10th birthday. It just resemble the situation of her children that Philip's brother took, a child that cannot meet their parent (especially Rudeus hadn't meet them after 3 years). And hence the change of hears, but well mostly it is because of his acting though.

Basically Paul is the legitimate heir of the Notos line and Rudy has claim to the family head position as Paul's eldest son. But since Paul left his family at age 12, his brother is the Notos head now and is insecure about Paul or Rudy ever claiming the title. That's mainly why rudy is kept on the low
Philip and Hilda's intentions are misunderstood a bit when they try to get Rudy together with Eris, they aren't using their daughter as a pawn for political capital, they're using their political capital to get their daughter a partner they think is a good person, both have lost all hope in Eris finding a man when she grows up cause of her personality and being alone for the rest of her life, Philip got Ghyslaine as a tutor for Eris cause he thought that the most likely scenario is that she'll end up an adventurer, even Eris as we learn from her inner dialogue in volume 6 believes that no other person other than Rudeus would accept her as she is and that if she was to be hated by Rudeus she would be forever alone (chapter 13 part 3, it starts at page 287 and ends at 302 and is a great insight of how Eris thinks but also has a lot of spoilers of their relationship from the moment they met till her 15th birthday so read at your own discretion, definitely an amazing part of the novels that gives insight in their relationship from her point of view and I will be really disappointed if the anime skips it or ommits parts of it)
@Technolocoder if it ends up being cut it would be a disaster, it's one of the best insights in the minds of other characters we have and the reason why what follows happened was cause of the different way Eris and Rudy saw their relationship
@Technolocoder as good as the anime has been I feel like a few parts were glossed over a bit too fast, the monologue after Rudy's 10th birthday was an example of something that they should have taken their time with to adapt properly and the same goes for ruijerd's past. in the case of Ruijerd we could someday get an OVA with the flashbacks to also flesh out the history of the human-demon war so it's not as bad but Rudy's 10th birthday monologue and Eris's 15th birthday monologues shouldn't be cut, they're too important to understanding these characters.
@Technolocoder I can't think of an incident where it would make sense to bring that up again, though it was an important moment that defined Ruijerd it's also something he has accepted and now it's his penance to try to repair the reputation of his tribe. there's maybe 2 incidents in the rest of the journey where maybe possibly potentially you could draw a connection to his past and maybe you can have the flashback be there and they are the incident after the voyage with the smugglers and maybe the fight in milis capital between Rudy and you-know-who but both of these it would be weird to shove the flashbacks there....
His mana comes from his daily training. In 1st episode his mana depleted immediately when he shot 2 water balls. One can grow mana capacity by using it till empty everyday, but doesn't work well on grown up. Although in the LN there's actually a hint that Rudy's body is a bit "extraordinary" but his mana comes from his hard training day by day.
I think that may be a spoiler: Thats a half true, Rudeus was a baby that was born dead, because his body was possessing Laplace potential, Rudeus reencarnated in that natidead body, so even though training was responsible to make him stronger, the laplace factor played a MAJOR role into making him having an INSANE mana pool, you will see how much mana he have in S3
Clarification on the party scene as a LN reader. Rudeus was acting at the start to show he was surprised about the party, using magic to make fake tears to play up the effect. However he was actually disappointed that his family wasn't there.
That “he went for the third base” line that you guys said, I think Rudy was mistaken because for Japanese language level, you start with 5 and ends with 0. Maybe he going backwards and does 3rd base then ends with 1st base. Okay, lemme stop now

I love the little detail where Eris tried to snap for the butler to deliver the present, but she doesn't know how to snap. You can't see it in the reaction, but I remember that part actually made me pause and laugh.

one thing people fail to understand is that during the medieval ages (which is the time period this anime gives off to me or at least something around that time) women as young as the age of 9 would often be married off. Things were mad different back in the day.

The strongest in the world are the gods, like, strong enough to kill dragons, or start world wars. Do not doubt the demon Kishirika. You'll be amazed at how important she could be. That eye thing....As Ghislaine has one, you'll see how good a tool the eyes can be. ;) The wordless incantation thing is something others can do. They said that before. Rudi just got a head start, and wasn't conditioned to doubt himself. Remeber, Cat lady is a Sword King, not god....Folks in that world are very particular about those distinctions. Eris’s mom sent her to Rudy’s room after giving her that outfit. The anime omitted that detail. But Rudy’s apology in that scene is when Eris fell for him.

no, he has definitely displayed impressive feats, so stop trying to act knowledgeable when you don’t know much about the series *spoilers* he learnt saint class magic at age 5. in one of the best magic universities, people ranging from late teens to adults find it difficult to reach intermediate or even advanced rank. one of the kingdoms found out and became frightened of rudeus, even though they haven’t met him in person. and no, chantless magic is definitely unique. only one professor at that university mentioned prior could use chantless magic, but only for wind magic. rudeus can do everything but healing when he was five. that fact should’ve been obvious by the fact that literally everyone, even roxy who was hired by the kingdom to be their mage was incapable of it, with the exceptions of one other person. mana is also among the highest in the world, rivalling demon dragon god laplace, who’s like the second strongest person in the world. you still think he hasn’t displayed special powers? im aware you’re going to use the excuse “iM aN AnIme OnLy”. it’s because you speak like everything you are saying is pure facts, especially when everything you’re saying is incorrect.

Yes, I think that Rudeus past life is separate from his reincarnation body. Scientifically, Rudeus can't do what most adult people would do like... For an example, when the time he got reincarnated, you can see that he's acting a bit childish but he still got that the past mind from here (Earth) So, I've come to conclusion that Rudeus is acting on his own while his Japanese mind is nothing but a second memory and consciousness.

He’s been with Eris’s family for three years, not two. He’s just been studying other languages for two years. Remember, he got there when he was seven, now he’s ten.
The way i think of it is this: rudy is his age with some memories from his past life. As he has said he learns faster / his body is younger and growing plus going through puberty. Additionally when he was in his last life he had pretty much no social interaction so anything asides from internet knowledge he doesn't have. Think about our real world, if reincarnation existed are we then as old as we can remember or is each life separate? This is not to excuse his behavior but i think for all intents and purposes he is his current age in this medieval setting plus some extra knowledge.
If you think about it deeper, what makes you,, well, you? It is your memories. You are who you are thanks to the masses of memories/experiances that you've had throughout your life. Sooo, i really don't think that holds up man. He is straight up just a deviant, end of story.
I don't think he's a double reincarnated and the statement about him being able to vision a spell without saying its name, he says he learned about it in a anime when he first did it and Sylphie learned it pretty easily too.
It makes sense that they would want Rudeus in the family. Intelligent and powerful prodigies are rare after all. If they cannot get Eris a major noble to marry into Rudy would actually be a really great land.
10:56 Sorry so late but after rewatching this i should of left another comment about Eris father. He is willing to force his daughter to sleep with Rudy because he already knows Rudeus is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future. So he knows if Eris is with him she will do just fine. Thats why he is ok with going to that length for his daughters future security.
One thing that should be noted, Eris mother seem to hate what Rudy is not who Rudy is. Given what Phillip said this episode, makes sense. Eris brothers seem to be wards from how i understood it. So given the Game of thrones referance you guys are making, It would be like Theon Greyjoy, someone who's a hostage & a guest at the same time. In general they're an insurrance that the other party is kept in check as if you act up, those kids will take the punishment.
I dont want to be a guy who spoils but it was explained that the reason why he is talented is because he started magic training at a young age like the saying young people learn faster just like sylphy is able to do the same thing cause they started so young.
Judging by the art style of this anime , it's safe to assumed that this anime is based medieval age. During that time , a 11 yr old kid can be consider as an adult once they left their own home to work somewhere else far away.

The way i think of it is this: rudy is his age with some memories from his past life. As he has said he learns faster / his body is younger and growing plus going through puberty. Additionally when he was in his last life he had pretty much no social interaction so anything asides from internet knowledge he doesn't have. Think about our real world, if reincarnation existed are we then as old as we can remember or is each life separate? This is not to excuse his behavior but i think for all intents and purposes he is his current age in this medieval setting plus some extra knowledge.
