@nicholasgarcia399 Fair question, and my statement is fairly sweeping. In particular, I don't like the country that's become popular for large stadium crowds and radio play. It feels soulless in a way that alt-rock did for a while in the mid 2000's like the studios figure if all we do is push the same 4 or 5 subjects and then add twang to it we've got country. It's like bad rap or bad metal in that regard. The problem is, for whatever reason, it's managed to become the dominant tone in the genre. It's all beer, guns, trucks, God and Shitty Relationships. There's none of the grandeur of the environment that rural living can inspire. None of the grit it takes to live and thrive away from society. Most of it feels empty now. There's certainly outliers. But the unfortunate truth is, theres no names in modern country music that I can leap to as being 'Drop it and listen right the hell now' the way I can for Rap/Metal/Orchestra... hell, even tribal revival stuff has a more dynamic scene right now. EDIT: That said, I adore blue grass and "The Dead South" are phenomenal.
