it is very weird to hear someone say they believe someone is an existential threat to democracy, and then says they'll vote for him. I don't think they actually know what that phrase means.

He's talking to them, he's giving them the argument in plain one-sentence terms, and thats something that will now have to be fed through the dichotomy machine until they process it. Yes, Klepper's being one-sided, in where he's coming From, but he's coming to them with a neutral tone, clear head, and giving them something to digest afterwards. These people might vote biden, or might choose nothing, now that they've talked to him, if they have to choose between Trump and Biden.

There's an actual choice there if they want to lean left or right. So when they vote for someone they hate, it's an active choice to lean right into the party.
The issue with many democratic voters isn't that they think the democrats are too extreme, it's that they think they're not extreme enough. So it makes little sense to vote for a candidate that's even more far right than your ideal. As far as I know, several states are well aware of the electoral college / "winner takes it all" problem.
The thing is: each state would render itself politically uninteresting when switching to proportional representation. Therefore it would need the majority of states to switch together. Unfortunately, the swing-states do more or less lose their political importance in a proportional system.... so the tend to prefer the current system.
