- Take the opportunity to play with and against better players. If you do get knocked down in rank, you're now going to be playing easier matches when you're used to more difficult ones. Learn from the experience, don't just hit a new peak and head over to a smurf account, your gameplay will get worse.

That first point was such a wild ride on new junk city, crazy to get 3 after your whole team dies
i was watching that only to be cursed with a new junk city comp game where my other support was a bot 😭 queued a new game, another bot, so i went to my alt to queue. guess what? another bot
"Don't stop playing when you hit a new peak". When I hit Gold 1 on tank I said, well, might as well keep up the good work. By the end of the afternoon I was Gold 4.
Which is to be expected, but you now have valuable game experience playing harder games.
The goal is never to hit a new peak, it is always to increase your average rank. If your average rank keeps improving you will keep hitting higher peaks.

I did that this season. Hit my season high of Masters 5 and then spent most of the season fluctuating between Diamond 1 and even got down to Diamond 4 at one point. Had fun doing it though so it was worth it lol
I appreciate seeing this video bc I finally started playing comp again (thanks to you 😊) and as I kept deranking, I kept getting discouraged but you told me “play for a more quality game”. I’ve since slowly started ranking up again, winning games, increasing my winrates, etc. so thank you again! ❤
i tried this, but i probably did it too late at night cause my games had bot after bot after bot 😭 all my duos stopped playing as well, so i have to solo queue

it’s the best mindset cause at the end of the day, it’s just a game.
I have never made a smurf account but I am still completely guilty of this. My personal method for avoiding it is to climb as high as I can with Lucio, then when I'm afraid of losing SR I switch to only playing Moira or Mercy until I've deranked. Generally happens almost instantly lol.

i've just played roughly 10 games or more where i lost because someone disconnected, at this point my rank is completely out of my control , i was low diammond and dropped down to plat 5, i dont think im going up ever again lol
I was at diamond 3 and went down to plat 1 in a few hours of play lol
Went from Gold 5 all the way to Plat 4 in a day.... then got matched with "leavers" and "trolls" and had a losing streak all the way back to Gold 3 :(

I don’t really play comp much on support since I got to gold 1 but I plan to change that when Spaceranger releases! I used Moira to carry myself to the point I’m at but I’m looking to go further with SR’s release:)
Good take but to be fair, when playing tank it is a whole different fuckfest that you gotta deal with sometimes. If you get the rank that you want it's very tempting to just not play anymore for the season
i hit diamond 1 like 3 seasons ago and have been deranking since and i’m now stuck in low plat and can’t get up a rank without immediately going back down… might be my own fault for maining mercy and illari for comp this season but it certainly isn’t fun
Remember that the ranking system has changed. Your old ranks aren't going to be a good reflection on the new system.
I permanently lived in GM1 but now I'm around GM3,4,5. The only thing that let's me know that I'm still the same (if not better!) is the top 500 leaderboard.
You being low plat sounds like you're actually around the same as where you used to be, maybe a little bit lower but nothing to worry about.
Just focus on playing the game, trying to enjoy the game, and then if you want to gain rank you need to find areas to improve on and then put in the effort to actually improve them.
Wow, you literally just described my experience to a T. Except I only have one account so I don't smurf and yes, I dropped back into gold. I'm bummed though because it's been months and I can't seem to get back into plat no matter how well I play. I'm starting to wonder if gold is where I belong and I just somehow got to plat by a fluke of the system.
the one thing i hate about gold is how there's a risk of getting some random bot like OnyxEagle or whatever the hell. my old high gold-low plat games had no prob w this, but after the new rank reset my gold games started going to silver 1 😭
@@TamWam_ I have the same issue. One game I get DPS or tank that has to be smurfing and the next I get someone who is playing for the very first time ever 🤦 I only play comp with my friends now. I know they're good, so we have a good chance of winning. And if we lose, at least we had a good time.
I really just wanted to climb for silver, but the sentence i ear the most is...its just a game, its just a game.... people dont play for win, just to numbly run around fucking others experience....if you go competitive is for WIN!!!!!! jesus

I'll start with saying i only have one account, lol!! As well as i'm low rank (High Gold). Yes it's definitely good to keep playing and learning from new and higher ranked players as i go and i will continue to play of course. But you cannot deny how discouraging the ranking system can be. You could play soooo good and work very well with your team but loose because someone got booped off point, or say you played your ass off but lost because your team was bad and i just think that so unfair.. I think the rank system should be based on your performance and not if the game is won or lost. You were once low rank so im sure you can somewhat understand where i'm coming from hopefully. But as a low rank player i have a lot more to loose than you do. You can loose 10 games and essentially stay where you are but for me i'll be knocked back down to silver with no question. So yes after hitting a certain peak i will be scared to derank because i will loose that peak so fast.

Quite often when I play ranked. One or more of my teammates ends up rage quitting and we get a loss and I can't get higher than silver 1 because of that BS 😭
Let's say there's a random leaver in queue and they get put into your game.
Your team has 4 possible player spots that they could be put into (assuming you're not the leaver yourself).
The enemy team has 5 possible player spots that they could be put into.
Leavers benefit you in the long run, assuming you're not a leaver yourself.
Basically, the enemy team will have leavers sometimes and you will get free wins because of it.
Your team will have leavers sometimes and you will lose games because of it.
It balances out. This is not the reason for you being unable to climb.

i kept having a literal 50-50 streak, going from win-loss-win-loss-win-loss etc. til i queued late, and i started getting infected with bots 😭 i ended up leaving and got suspended, went on an alt, won a game then the next had the same damn bot. left and got suspended too
I'm not scared just annoyed about the match making being horrible. Blizzard needs the TikTok algorithm haha

I hit a peak and haven’t hit it in a while 😢
So I have been feeling bad being stuck between plat and diamond last 2 seasons because I always was masters before... but when you look at t500 list mid season now you would be t500 at masters 4 which was always high gm before they made ranking up so hard. So technically the ranks just shifted a bit and diamond is like new masters? But what really makes no sense for me is that I have never seen that many brain dead people especially tanks on such a "high lvl." It feels like a coin flip if you get a tank dropped from real masters or a newbie that got lucky with placements. They make mistakes not even a ow1 gold player would have made. I have lost games were my team was mechanically better but they just never grouped up for several times in a row went in and died before teamfights even started or just never cared about the objective.
Like I care anyway, I'm bronze so I can't go lower. Game are so random, sometime I get 5 win in a raw with smurf on my team, sometime a lot more loose because of derank or newbe. Team game are too random for me. On Hearthstone and StarCraft 2 1vs1 I got to diamond but on team game like hero of the storm and Overwatch I got from platinium to bronze.
There's a lot of rng, but a Casino always makes money over time on a roulette wheel because they have a slight edge against the customers. The results are random, they win some, lose some, but over time they always win.
That's the team game goal. You have bad teams and good teams, but if you are slightly better than the average player at your rank, over time you will win more than you lose and will rank up.
