hi mercy here!! thank you all so much for the nice comments 🥺i learn a lot from your VODs emongg so this meant a lot to me! I can definitely see my mistakes on the big screen here lol and hopefully I can climb back up. tysm again omg
Not trying to state the obvious here but you're doing yourself no favors one tricking Mercy. It's no secret that she's one of the worst supports in the game right now unfortunately. The higher you climb the worst she is. With that said, there are a few things that can get you out of the metal ranks fairly easy. I noticed the 2nd point (especially defense) you were flying a bit in the open too often. Especially trying to save that bastion that was over extended. Screw it, let him die. It's better to lose him than you too. Next up, questionable res attempts. I personally won't go for a res unless I'm at least 90% certain I can get the res off. The final two tips I have kinda go hand in hand and both deal with comms. First up, as support simply calling out important cool downs can make or break a game. Moira no fade, Orisa no gold, Bap no lamp, etc.... As someone that plays as much tank as I do support I REALLY appreciate the help. Playing a more passive support like Mercy it's so much easier to do this as you usually have a great view of everyone. Ult tracking is obviously important so that goes without saying. Last tip, use Valk as an engagement tool. Tell your team, let's walk with Valk. Too many Mercy mains use Valk purely as a defensive/reactionary measure. It's actually quite powerful as an engagement tool. If you're team is fully healthy and has their cooldowns walking in with them all damage boosted can quite often roll the other team for that fight. Or you'll end up baiting out other important ults. Hopefully this all helps. Best of luck ✌️
Oh also, watch your own vods after a match where you think, "I don't know what more I could have done." I promise you you will always find mistakes if you're being honest and objective with yourself. I was hard stuck Silver. Started watching my replays and critiquing myself. Shot up to diamond in a month.
Also having watched only half the vid I would say you could definietly focus on being more mobile and when team fights break down you're spending a LOT of time in the open in front of enemies diving around instead of trying to bounce from cover to cover.
It's crazy to see a player with such a good understanding of their character, proper positioning, and decision-making in gold. Mercy is truly in the dumpster right now if this is what Gold Mercy game play looks like.
Yeah mercy just has to bend over backwards and be Jesus level to hit the bare minimum. Kinda like Rein before his ult buff made him ever so slightly marginally less terrible to play.
its not that mercy is bad, she didnt get any straight nerfs, anything she does now she would also do prior. creatros put her in lower tiers (which is where you got your info from) is based on the meta, which no one plays below masters, and the dps passive
@@its_lucky252 she also has the lowest healing in the game, can't do damage while she is healing and doesn't have a utility like immortality on a cooldown or anti or sleep. Rez kinda, but it is not as high utility bc it is purely reactionary.
@@dmnddank1711I constantly have tanks going 2-15 and dps who can’t breach 1k dmg while I have 0 deaths and over 10k heals I guarantee you it’s not my fault LOL
However, they punish you as a team! I don't see the fun in playing competitive games if you're not in a party with friends or if you want to rank up from a low rank alone :/
I'm so glad to hear it wasn't just me thinking I was struggling more than usual with Mercy. I've never played so much Zen in my Overwatch life until now. I have practically mastered Mercy's movements and unless there's a Sombra (which there almost always is now), I almost never die. Too often my power boosted DPS can't kill their 1:1 opponent and my alternative support isn't pocketing my tank. I averaged plat before the 1-5 rank system changes and now i can't get out of silver and it's mind numbing to watch my teams outrageous positioning.
Yeah I quit trying to play her on competitive since like season 2. You're at best pocketing a DPS to do 30% more than a similarly skilled enemy DPS, but even that's is a negative tradeoff if the opposing support slot can just do way more than 30% of your pocketed DPS's damage. Say they do 10,000 damage a match, you boosted 30% of that so theyre at 13k. I guarantee you the enemy support is going to do more than 3k damage. And at worst you're outputting healing that's much lower than the enemies damage output, and boosting people who cant hit the side of a wall slowly losing until the map ends. The only unique factor is a revive, which only really works if the enemy team is bad, or you do that obnoxious 10k DPI spinning. It's just a lose lose scenario and I wish people would play any other hero in my games lmao.
@@IllTakeThisName well I wouldn't say mercy was useless since season 2 that is a stretch. the damage boost also contributes to mercy's ult build up and really good balance between damage boost and healing makes her ult charge like crazy fast, its just a shame that her ult not that great with the dps debuff. But she was certainly a viable or even a good pick in seasons prior even up to a gm level. And the damage boost did not just help boost your teams overall damage output. It made the damage they were providing at the giving time secure a kill or build ult charge. I played mcree with pocket many times and it did really help having that extra boost to one or two shot a target or fan the hammer a tank to death. Sure it realise on your team mates but being able to identify who is the best person the boost at a given time was part of a skill in which mercy players had to be very good at. Damage boost was not only her greatest asset as it was the movement that could clutch out a win. I have been in a game where our mercy survived in illios well for her teammates to die and come back. When I watched it back I felt motion sick from watching our mercy's perspective and I play tracer. It was insane, and undoubtedly won us the round and later the game itself. And this was at gm level. I don't think she was always bad, I just think she needs a little bit of help at the moment to compensate the dps debuff affect.
she's complete crap rn. every single solo q mercy main thats gm/t500 every season since 2016 is peaking masters at best rn. play another hero until she's reworked/buffed is my advice. good luck!
Honestly if you pick mercy in anything below plat you'll get shit tons of value simply because the enemy team can't shoot you back and you'll be able to live almost the entire game if you have somewhat decent mechanical movements. Heal botting in low ranks as mercy or in general any support is not really an awful strat since the enemies aren't going to shoot you anyway and the burst damage dealt is really low, so the healings can back it up. So i would give up the damage boost for now and just focus primarily on healing. I know it's not how mercy is supposed to be played but if it works for the bottom ladder then why not
stuck silver + bronze, just got gold in support and already on my derank game, tank kept going in alone, bronze is just awful ik how to play but my teams are either trolls or just absolutely awful
Mercy is tough, right now for sure. I want to play her, she's my favorite hero but i just can't stick to her when things get rough. She just feels so much less impactful than the other supports sometimes
Sometimes? She literally is so garbage that you are basically actively throwing by just playing her right now. Damage boost does basically jack shit and with dps passive she heals 44 now. Like she is actually so bad it shocks me that Lifeweaver is better than her.
Mercy is the worst character in the game and has been a throw pick for a while now. I also used to play mercy a lot but when you have literally any other support to choose from that would be better, i cant justify it in a competitive match
It seems like most of the comments are either complaining about Mercy’s state or doging on mercy as a character - neither which are helpful to this player. Here are some things that this Mercy player can do to improve their gameplay (from a fellow Mercy enjoyer): - Consider swapping Mouse 1 and Mouse 2 buttons to make your DMG boost your primary fire. This is by far the best change I did when I first started learning Mercy. There were quite a few moments where they held heal at full HP targets - and they’re effectively doing nothing during this time. By swapping M1 and M2, youll be DMG boosting as a default even when you’re focusing on something else (enemies, movement etc) - Avoid healing your team if they’re already using a heal ability, damage boost instead (unless they’re under a lot of pressure and will die without your aid). This is great for 3 reasons: 1. They’re getting ult charge from doing extra damage with your DMG boost 2. They’re getting ult charge from healing themselves (soldier/hog/mauga/etc get a bit of ult charge) 3. Enemies will have to back up to heal up to offset extra damage from DPS passive and DMG boost, which means you’re not putting pressure on your team - Polish up your movement. There were a lot of unnecessary super jumps that put them in enemy LOS for no reason. There were also some moments where you were flying above the enemy and having to turn your back to them to check on your allies (ie second point defense close to capture), all of which could be solved by using high ground from the building. Youd have LOS on enemies and allies, and you’re saving your GA for when your Valk runs out/you get dived. - Bonus tip for movement: consider using the setting where you have to hold GA instead of toggle GA. It helps with canceling your movement mid-air in case things get hairy, instead of having to rely on SJ and backwards GA which doubles your cooldown (not good when enemies are on your butt). - Try taking less chip damage. One of Mercy’s strengths is healing off of the heals she provides. By taking damage, you’re reducing the amount of healing you receive, which is key to your survival in this current season. -Your instincts to boost ults are great, but you should go one step further and track your allies’ cooldowns. Keep a mental note of when Ashe used her dynamite, or Bastion used his grenade, and tryto catch them before they throw them out. Another easy dmg boost target is moira orb, epsecially at the beginning of a round / fight, when they have no one to heal. - Rezzes have been great overall, but consider using Valk as a cooldown to get a riskier rez off or get a GA reset. I.e. I like to Valk after an enemy Genji/Doom/Venture/DVa commits their movement cooldown like Dash orPunch to dive me. That way they can’t immediately follow up on what you’re doing. Just some tips that I think we all can keep improving on! Overall Mercy is in a rough spot right now but that just means we should DMG boost as much as possible to burn down the enemies as much as we can.
The rank reset was so frustrating - I was in Diamond 1 on Support about to break into Masters, Diamond 2 Tank, Diamond 2 DPS, after the reset I ended up in Gold 3. The majority of these low ranked games are filled with people who just feed, leave, or are afk. This happens on both sides constantly, so the win / loss gets forced closer to 50%. I've been able to get my DPS role back to Plat 1 so far because DPS has so much impact in the game, but as support and tank the grind is crazy. You'll be having a great game and be winning, then your teammate will leave and its so demoralizing.
most games i switch off mercy and started to win... and same her winrate is bad now i pick depends on team comp and mercy is not the answer for most games
People actually taking accountability is so rare in life lol let alone OW. HOWEVER Your teammates do suck sometimes in certain ranks and it really does hold people back. Multiple things can be true at the same time. I have one account where I'm Diamond on support and another account where I am hard stuck gold, also on support. I cannot out heal dog shit positioning or make people care enough to think about *the team* and not just themselves. Sometimes a bad game is your fault but ELO Hell also exists. Two things can be true at the same time
I hate complaining, but I'm in the same boat. On my main account, I'm hardstruck in mid-Gold. Made a smurf account and have placed and remained in Diamond support for 3 seasons now. I cannot for the life of me, get out of Gold on my main account. The teammates are so hit and miss.
elo hell doesn't exist, you're right where you should be. it's been proven multiple times elo hell isn't a thing, y'all are just bad and using the game/teammates being bad as an excuse. it's exceptionally more noticeable with people who enjoy playing glorified spectator mode heros like mercy & lw. i mean like you have people like bogur riding lw into higher ranks BEFORE he was changed. it's literally copium that anyone thinks they're 'stuck'
@@bunnyg4464keep talking, the amount of games Ive had where I diffed the enemy tank and was genuinely adding more pressure and dealing good damage with target prioritisation and still losing is just ridiculous at this point. I literally had a rein/orisa game against a rein on shambali and we barely won only because he didnt switch off rein (36-9 and he was 16-16) , 2nd most elims in the match after my dps with 39. I am literally hardstuck plat 5 after climbing out of gold grinding for an entire season. Believe me when I say there is an algorithm that locks your account to the rank you stay in once you play for more than a season and dont climb. I have a ton of games I could talk about where I clearly did better than the other tank and I still lost either because I had an useless dps not able to kill anything or at times from dps supps who prioritise damage as moira over heals
until the tank never gets healed because supports will see the passive will constantly be on the tank. then when the tank asks for heals the supports will say they had the passive on them so they healed the dps instead.
So I’m a GM Mercy and this Mercy is better than Gold but they’re not Masters level. High Diamond probably. Things they can work on are faster decision making and flicking to Damage Boost faster. They heal and then hold healing on a full target for a solid two seconds before switching back to DB. It’s also little things like knowing Illari Pylon is healing your target so you can focus DB instead.
@livvikitty not very different. I'm a gm console player. Have played in pc scrims and I do exactly the same as I do on console. Pc isn't all that lmao
Nah, Overwatch already has enough visible clutter. I like the idea they have of like using that repetitive beeping sound when the payload is being contested.
@@MrZebanHai Or paint big obvious circles/paths on the floor around it like London with the sidewalks or some similar idea. Yeah it might look jarring but id rather have an obvious point of contention than a pretty map.
I think about the let them die and rez strategy all the time. Do mercy mains like skiesti talk about this? I don’t play mercy, but this strategy has been kicking in my head for a while. When a tank is low enemies will DUMP resources into the kill. If you let them die then rez, it’s like a free win. It’s like you EMP’d their whole team.
Sometimes they do, I’ve seen skiesti and niandra talk about this, and I do this sometimes as well when I play mercy. I don’t see it often from other plat players tho
That only works if they dont capitalize on the 3v5, or they ignore you exist. The second you do it once a smart team should be watching the tanks body after every engagement and just wait a few seconds for the timer to expire. No strategy that relies on an enemies lack of game knowledge is very viable in competitive.
Yes, high level Mercy players acknowledge this but it gets less viable in higher ranks as rez gets more punishable. It actually is a really great thing to teach lower ranked Mercy players to carry themselves out of their ELO. Not necessarily letting tanks die and rezzing them after, but the skill of prioritizing a target to hard push damage boost for more value and possibly letting another teammate die because you can resurrect them after the more valuable target wipes the team.
Really good movement from Mercy overall. I felt like that risky res at 16:28 that caused the Mercy to die basically cost the team the game as well because that 2nd point could have been easily captured, but instead cost the team an extra few minutes just to get B. And that's just how OW goes sometimes. One huge mistake could be the difference between a win or loss. And if it wasn't done by Mercy, it's likely done by anyone else in any other situation.
Mercy is probably the hardest character to carry a team. She can do everything right in support duties, but she's very dependent on teammates' performances. That's when incorporating battle Mercy gameplay can be the difference maker.
Or you just pick a character that isnt entirely dependant on team performance. Battle mercy is never going to be better than just dealing damage on any other support who can heal without swapping weapons. The only advantage battle mercy has is flying which being gatekeeped by an ultimate, there are much better utility ultimates in the support lineup.
@@IllTakeThisNameMissing the point. We're talking about playing Mercy better and making her better. That's like telling Rein, Junk, or LW mains "Just swap" when they complain about how they're underperforming
if you play mercy you actually _can't_ "do everything right in support duties." support duties go beyond: heal my team and die as little as possible. a huge part of supports job is to help control the space; which is done by identifying opponents on off-angles, and dealing damage to them in order to get them to retreat/give up the space. you'd be surprised how much easier it is for your DPS team mates to frag out when they have help controlling the off-angles.
felt this so hard as a mercy main that dropped from dia to gold and is now stuck there.. i very rarely feel impactful as mercy nowadays and just feel helpless a lot of the time.. i know its time to pick up a new hero but shes the reason why i still enjoy playing this game
It's a great support line for a poke team comp, but the Mercy's team didn't run Sig or play safe on Mauga, so it doesn't work nearly as well as it could.
@@kommandantkillcode That relies on the team knowing what their team's weaknesses are even if they were playing sig. Which is impossible expectations for gold players. their dps combo was also not that great either as it screams we are going to focus the tank which would have work since they had muaga but the wrong support combo for that playstyle since there is not enough healing output neither can they push beyond the illari turret if the enemy tank disengages like he should. they either kill the tank with their cooldowns and snowball the rest of the enemy team or they lose. If illari was extremely flexible and trying to make this comp work (most cases you would switch the mercy but you know whatever all of this is hypothetical) you would play something like bap or kiriko to cleanse the team if the enemy team switches to ana. Edit: I know the tank pretty much insta swaps to zarya but that is actually much much worse with what they are running. Its legit a switch saying you're going to carry your team on the shoulders which is a fine decision if you were better than the enemy tank but as proof of the video it was not the case.
@@megayikes9716 Their DPS originally had a poke comp, and switched to Brawl because of what their tank was running. At that point, the Illari should've swapped off, but before that it was much more on their tank, who was also just getting diffed, to swap to a tank with better ranged pressure. Technically Orisa has that, but they were on Zarya for the majority of their first Defense round.
@@kommandantkillcode I did mention the zarya was a bad pick in post edit unless he was diffing their tank which we both know he wasn't. I still don't like muaga though for a illari poke comp because I don't think a gold muaga will ever play around the turret.
Too many people are saying to learn a new hero and that she sucks right now seems to forget that the thats the whole reason why she SHOULD be buffed a little. First people cry when you have a mercy on the enemy team that's good and then they cry because they have a mercy on their team and call it an immediate loss. I think its just an agreement that Mercy needs a buff right now regardless of players' feelings for her. I hated Junker for the longest time. Hell, I still do, but even I could see she needed buffs compared to the other tanks
Not sure if hot take but i think if your one tricking or similar and the meta changes to a great extent as it did in S9 then it makes sense if that same person drops down because the strat that was viable basically the entire previous seasons wont be as impacful. Even if the person might be very good at a certain hero or playstyle.
I've had this same problem. I was high plat/low Diamond range on supp on PC and I got dropped to gold and kind of stuck now. Constantly win a game lose a game everytime I play. I do play Mercy, Ana, Moira, Lucio, and Kiriko though so I can swap when needed. This video is exactly how I play Mercy too. People I get on teams with always say I'm good and why am I in gold. It sucks.
that little purple downwards arrow that's by your own profile in the corner should be to the side of an ally's health bar when the dps passive is active, though a bit bigger would be nice; more noticeable. as a supp main i think that'd help a lot, as suggested
This was actually super reassuring that maybe I don't suck as much as I thought as I too peaked master 4 in season 8 as Mercy (tho same season I fell back to diamond, but I was solid dia 1 for many seasons and hit masters the first time season 7) and now I've again been stuck in plat couple seasons. I thought for a long time it must be just me because I didn't see alot of discussion on the fact that Mercy indeed is super weak currently, and now seeing that I'm not the only one is nice 😭
I'd personally love to see some variation of the more healing under x percentage of hp, but now with the tank changes coming im bit unsure. Reverting GA nerfs would be like... everything tho....
I treat Venture like a Tracer/Sombra hybrid when I'm Mercy. If they need heals and come to me, yes 100%, but they have their own abilities to avoid damage when crit. I avoid being next to them as much as possible in case they teleport out and I can't follow (Venture's underground ability, Tracer recall out of LOS, etc). If they really allowed Mercy to fly to targets like Mei in iceblock or Venture underground or a slightly shorter cooldown on GA to match the disconnect of beam, then those 2 QoL fixes alone would help this hero for players like this.
It is VERY hard to play as a support who has a much higher awareness than your teammates. I love playing Mercy but Blizzard has deliberately made her bottom of the barrel and it's frustrating as a player who just wants to play the game with her/his favorite character. It has actually pushed me away from comp and I stepped back from playing Overwatch (like I used to) because of the support/dps changes. It just hasn't made the game fun from a supports pov. IMO
@@Foldgishnot true, i main kiriko who is arguably one of the most busted characters in game rn if not THE most busted and i play in gold, if your teammates suck you can't even get a few shots in because they'll literally get shredded and then blame you for not healing. i always try to go for damage as often as i possibly can especially because the insane headshots kiriko has, but sometimes my teammates actively hinder me trying to support my team because they expect all supports to healbot so they can make stupid plays and their mistakes can be forgiven in metal ranks. i guess it's the opposite in higher ranks, but playing support is so shit when your teammates don't/can't/won't understand that you're not a walking healthpack but a Support
@@lime9985 it is true i main kiriko i was masters before rank reset and im masters again on kiriko. You’re stuck in gold for a multitude of reasons not just because of your teammates.
@@lime9985you can fit two kunai in between heals without sacrificing your healing per second- you're likely over-committing to either damage or healing, considering you should be able to damage at least once, if not twice, between every burst of heals at peak efficiency. i recommend practicing the technique and watching higher rank kiris at play to see the way they utilize it!! there are times as kiri where you can throw your full clip of kunai at once no problem, but you need to be able to recognize that not every time you damage has to be a full commital, and you dont need to just hold left click while wasting potential dps time in between each burst.
@@Foldgish i am not blaming my teammates for my rank. i deserve gold. what i'm saying is that you can't say supports just "healbot", sometimes the situation requires you to hard focus on keeping your team alive because they are not playing in optimal conditions, so even if you want to do damage you're not able to. mercy (which is what the original comment was talking about) is a character i know a lot of people play and she doesn't only "healbot", but you can't damage boost while your team is getting shredded. healbotting is most of the time not caused by the person not knowing the character has other abilities as you insinuated lol. congrats on ur rank i guess
As a Mercy main who also went from Diamond to Gold in the past couple of seasons, I've been forced to change my playstyle a lot and at this point I've been playing more Lucio than Mercy, I also do scrims with a 3.3k team (I'm lucky they haven't kicked me for not climbing back to diamond yet XD) and we never run Mercy cause she's just not good enough compared to other supports and is considered a troll pick, at this point I would just be happy if they could revert the effing GA nerfs, specially when mobility is so important in OW2. But if there's something I know it's that the balance team doesn't want Mercy to be meta ever again as they're too afraid of community backlash if another moth meta happens, so I've just resigned myself to being in Lucio jail permanently XD.
I totally sympathise with you and also don't want to ever see moth meta again as every mercy became a F-21 fighter jet zipping around that was impossible to hit. I also believe mercy should not be this bad since she is a very much beloved hero in the game by many players. I think the only thing that could save her while not ruining the dps passive because I think that will be very bad given that everyone has higher health pools now and we may go back to step 1 of there are too many get out of jail free cards in game. I think making small changes that should be implemented right now like mercy should receive faster ult charge from damage boosting (this will help all the solo que mercy players and lean more into the better aspects in her kit) and slightly more range for rezing (I don't play mercy so I don't know if this isn't a thing already but she should be able to cancel a rez too if she realises she has made a mistake). Very small changes that allows mercy to have more moth time while not making every mercy at ever tier level into a fighter jet again. I think they have to do small changes throughout this season for her to feel more viable than one massive buff like reverting the guardian angel nerfs, or the return of the insane double rez / insta rez of og ow.
Exactly! The movement and decisions when you retreat were ok, but the amount of times she yellow beamed full health target is very jarring. Also, she could definitely follow her dps more.
5:45 i totally agree and i think mercy players need to hear that more. ive seen mercys rez a tank when the team fight is over with no overtime just for them to die again which is can be free ult charge for the other team. and since the rez animation takes so long, ur team will have 1 less support for a couple of seconds which can be a lot.
I was at silver 1 and then hit a huge loss streak and have fallen to silver 4 almost silver 5 .-. It’s so frustrating. Sometimes I want to blame everyone else but I’m just going to try harder on my positioning. I appreciate videos like this because it really helps everyone who watches them.
Hey this Mercy gameplay was good, you can definitely see that they were a master player before, I just think that you should try and learn another support for times where Mercy doesn't work or is too weak in the current game's state
I went from Plat 5 to Silver 4. I know I'm not that good, but I also feel incredibly frustrated when I have a solid 25 second duel with another DPS and finally take them down but have to dip out for a health pack because I'm out of cooldowns... and the other 4 guys on my team can't kill the mercy who goes in for the rez.
I’m noticing a lot of unnecessary slingshot/super jump usage, that extra .5s on GA’s cooldown could be the difference between life or death in a sticky situation
I feel the pain. I was Plat most my Overwatch life, even touched Diamond for a min. Now I’m Silver in all roles and literally a few losses away from bronze on a couple roles. I get the highest stats most games. I actively try to assess and address the problems of why we’re losing. I’m aware of counter picks and I’m 99% of the time the only one on comms making call outs (enemy flanking, enemy 1hp, etc etc). And I’ve still lost around 25 of my last 30 games. My team constantly gets super “diffed”. Seemingly the enemy team always has good synergy and team work, more often than not my team seems to be actively trying to lose. Never, ever, ever tell me ELO hell doesn’t exist. I will find you.
Mercy's issue is that she doesn't bring hardly any value to the table anymore, especially in gold. Her value comes from being able to pocket the dps that is popping off, and you're just going to get really inconsistent dps players in that rank. You can heal for 20k+ and still easily lose because while the enemy supports are only healing for 12-13k, they are on Ana, Bap, Kiriko, etc. and contributing 10+ kills in addition to their support and other value like Ana denying healing etc. If you can't secure kills/get picks as a support player now, you are actually hurting your team in most cases and picking Mercy essentially makes it a 5v4 unless you have an insanely good DPS you can pocket on your team where they will 1v5 with the damage boost.
Its really cool to see a controller player play mercy. If you are not aware you cant turn your camera and glide at the same time as any flying character (exception pharah because she has a trigger thats her flying ability) so a lot of this game you can see them on the ground where on PC like i normally see a mercy nearly 90% of the game flying and this game is more 70% flying. I am a support main and mercy is the only one I cant even feel like i do well so this helps me feel better about giving her a try 💜 this person seemed to do very well
left trigger for all flying characters will have you float for mercy that's her rez ability so it doesn't matter if you hold it while in the air for pharah that is her jetpack ability and for echo it's her sticky bombs outside of that holding jump allows you to float and it doesn't stop you from looking around you just have to use both the stick and button at the same time it may be harder but not impossible
I haven't watched the video yet, I just listened to what was reading Emongg and I feel that Mercy so hard. As a Lúcio player I peaked GM5 on season 8, before that I was comfortable in mid/high Master, but since season 9 I fell to Diamond 5 (before that I got placed to Diamond 1, then I climbed back to Master 3, then I had my biggest losing streak ever that made me fall back to Diamond and now I'm just losing over and over) and I'm struggling to climb. I don't even know what I should do, I tried various play styles but I just keep losing
Don’t worry it’s most likely not ur fault, the community most unanimously the matchmaking is bad. It’s either stomp or get stomped which sucks bc there are a ton of good players who can’t rank up because of it!
even before dps passive got added, sometimes id not heal a tank cuz theyre about to die in a good rez spot. like if i heal them it just buys them seconds to wander into the open to die where they cant get rezed. or its more time for enemy to push in on rest of the team while tank is getting finished
I feel this so much. After this new season I got back up to diamond, and then lost a little over 20 games in a row. I had no clue what I was doing wrong, but after I took about a week break (school trip) I started winning again. It’s just kinda a weird time for mercy rn I think.
3:45 is hilarious because on the off chance i’m playing mercy (only with friends when i know my other support can carry heals because she’s god awful right now) i’ll tell my tank to “die safe” if they’re low so i can rez to full hp sometimes 😂
I climbed to GM5 a few seasons ago. But then I took a big break from the game and are now in Plat1/Diamond5. But I luckily have friends in this rank that I can vibe with, and hope one day we can climb together
Same thing happened with me. I peaked diamond 2 (had 6 wins in a row, match put me in masters 5-3 lobbies and I won them all solo Que), then lost a bunch and fell. After that I’ve been focusing on classes and now hard stuck gold.
After struggling for the last 2 seasons on mercy solo queue, I’ve finally clawed my way up to diamond 3 on console. The best dps to pocket right now is sojourn I think. Definitely the most consistent railgun kills if they’re pretty decent with her.
I feel like if they give Mercy a secondary effect with the different beams would be pretty cool. Like healing beam gives a little bit of a speed boost and dmg beam gives a slight damage reduction
I just dealt with this myself. Fell from Plat to silver. Had to ask myself if it was me. I think a lot of it was me. I made some changes to my play and it's helped but yeah... still having support who refuse to heal and only try to attack and flank and still have tanks that try to 1v5 die, then spam "i need healing" "Group up!"... console advancement is all luck bases. Most people have inflated ranks and the game is full of KBM users with Aim Assist. Blizzard needs to address this. There's needs to be criteria for separating people who obviously have no idea how to actually play and banning these hackers/cheaters. But still the changes I've made have increased my skill and made me realize my own faults. Glad they finally made it so console players can review games.
Yeah I just... haven't played ow or mercy as a mercy main due to the dumps. I even try to play MH or QP and get into DPS but I just... can't the heal side of support is just... rough right now I feel very similar to this mercy and am also currently diamond -> gold. The decisions this mercy made is very similiar to what I'd make. I can even bet this person would be so bad ass on kb&m. can see the awkward deadzone movement from console but it's not the players fault. I feel you fellow mercy main. It's rough right now q_q
i have 100+ hours on mercy and the first thing i realized and disliked is the lack of using ga and the slow sens, ik ga is 2 seconds so maybe she was saving it for special occasions but if u double click ga (end it early) it will only have a 1sec cooldown and u can do a lot w that. Also fast sensitivity makes it easier and faster for you to switch your beams (ex. multiple teammates are low and you need to quickly switch ur beam back and forth) and just good overall because you can ga and do a turn around (easier to do w high sens) to fly back, since doing a backwards ga is slower
I relate with this Mercy player alot! I peaked master 5 with mercy in season 3 when she had such a carry potential with all her buffs!Honestly I'm sad that they revoked them instead of just nerfing them Valk felt honestly impactful but I gotta admit it boosted alot of mediocre mercy players into high ranks just by healbotting. But to be fair after season 9 alot of really high ranked players fell down by 1-2 ranks due to the really hard grind fest they introduced with new SR-system that reminds me strongly of ow1's rank system. I general it made me feel like rank doesn't matter anymore especially with the rewards revamp. I have a bunch of top500 player friends that are stuck now in low master to high diamond and I think this tells enough about what bs the rank system now is. To be fair tho the ranks were inflated by a mile and now kinda sorted those players back into their respective ranks while in the meanwhile still feeling really unbalanced by the way how you as a higher ranked player are now stuck in lower ranks until you find the sheer willpower to grind your self out.
I don’t play mercy on attack unless there is a smurf that I dedicate to pocket. Kiriko and Lucio have more impact on attack, you can lose teammates but as long you kill more the cart will keep moving, especially on the last meters , all you need is to win one team fight no matter how many times you lost already.
As someone who started to play OW2 more and more now, I love to see how friendly Mercy mains are to one another lol. But I do agree, she feels tough currently.
This is my plays style as well as a mercy main. The struggle to go past plat 4 is painful. I don’t blame myself because I know I’m decent but then again we all have those derp moments.
The same thing happened to me, I was high plat and fell to low gold and silver. I will never blame anyone but myself. If I was plat once I can do it again. We can all get better it just takes patience and time! We got this!
as a mercy player: climbing as her is pretty much impossible. the last time i did any placements as her i landed in bronze. i play a few other supports anyway, thankfully, but i've had to pick up some others just to stay afloat in situations where mercy would be my go-to.
These past few seasons have been so rough for Mercy. I solo queue only and was masters in OW1. Demoted in OW2 but that felt fair since it took a while to get used to new heroes and balance changes. Nowadays, I can barely stay in plat and my gameplay doesn't look too different from this. I watch my replays a lot and see much worse play from others often, which leaves me wondering how we are at the same skill level? I don't necessarily think i deserve a higher rank, moreso that the criteria for deciding rank is very unclear and even unfair when it seems like some players in the match are on a completely different level. It really sucks for Mercy because you don't get a lot of reward for skillful play unless your team can outplay theirs.
It has been such a rough meta for both mercy and lw, (I have a lw only account which I got to masters 2 could get it to gm but its very difficult and my mmr sucks). The dps debuff really affects their gameplay even more so on mercy as it also makes damage boost kinda useless when your tank takes a billion hitpoints right now.
"Let them die and ressing them is better" ay that reminds me of Dirty Bomb, where it's easier to defib your teammate to death and then charge revive them with full health 😅
When they said that would be an indicator for who has been hit by the passive I thought they were going to have that indicator FOR the supports but they only added individual ones
Informative. Made me feel better about my own Mercy. I completed my placement matches not long ago as support, mostly with Mercy (Ana, Brig, Moira, and Weaver too) and it dropped me in Silver 3. Looks like I'll be able to climb some. Hope this Mercy gets to where the player wants to go. This Mercy looks pretty good.
As someone who’s trying to get back in the game, for me it’s the changes to the super jump, it just completely messes up the way I used to play, and I always forget to do them now..I really think they shouldn’t have changed that aspect of her character but then again I feel like they’re simplifying everything?..😓
pc and console are completely different beasts, to the point that t500 on console is like high dia on pc. makes sense you fell into gold after being t500 on console.
That's the prob when you can play only one character, if they're not really in the meta for a while your rank will suffer, no matter how good you are. Plus they're no other character who depend as much on their team mates as Mercy does. In the current state of ranked around gold/plat where I feel >80% of people just play OW casually and have no idea about team comps, counters, or even abilities... Games might feel like a coin flip most of the times :(
Diamond Mercy player here. There was nothing new to learn from this. I find it odd though, that the enemy team didn’t focus the Mercy at all. Usually being number one target in most of my games.
Gold 2 to plat 4 is elo hell for sure. The difficulty climbing out as support feels so hopeless. The inconsistency of the people who play at the rank is pretty crazy.
2:30 I guess playing mercy, you kinda get used to where the beam goes, and its up to your decision making on who to prioritise your beam to. Good idea, but as one mercy main, I dont really think its necessary (for me that is)
i peaked masters 3 before they put the passive in the game as a mercy main now im d5/p1, i simply do not enjoy playing other supports THAT much but i do because im forced to. i cannot grasp how you can make a character so useless, if you dont have a dps that absolutely wrecks the enemy dps, mercy is just a throw pick at this point.
I would recommend that this Mercy learn another hero for seasons like this. Even though aiming doesn't seem to be their strong suit I'd recommend Kiri. She is almost always relevant and it seems like every Kiri always lucks into some random lucky headshots. Suzu and Fox alone are worth it even if you're not putting out Masters/GM Kiri level of damage. LW may be closer to this person's play style but LW is not a safe pick for future metas. I would say Moira but it feels like Moira is getting too much value for the skill required so I wouldn't doubt it if Moira gets nerfed soon. But if they can play Moira then Moira should easily get them out of metal ranks. If this player is hard stuck playing Mercy only then they are going to be very reliant on the meta in addition to their teammates. You can't fix your teammates and if you rely on blaming them you won't realize what you need to fix.
its crazy how in lower ranks, its the opposite rn. the matchmaking has been so wack this season. Its like my dps just cant do dmg anymore. even in unranked, we just get lockin in at spawn its so wild XD like even our tanks. even when i play tank with a moira on me, if there is an orisa with a mercy on the opp team? we are dying hard LMAOOOOo i also seem to get brand spanking new players on my team where as the people i get put up against all have like mythics and golden guns its insane.
the only time i feel like i do some impact with mercy is when we have an ana who's willing to healbot. mercy, my main, is the one i try to avoid playing because i know that nobody is perfect and we need all the help we can get. they made her unplayable sigh
The problem Mercy falls into since season 9 is she really needs to up her blue beam usage, but depending on your other support you can easily fall behind on heals and never catch back up. Mercy's effective healing is down to around 48 hps which is just too low to be useful. Really UW has the same problem. Once you fall behind on heaus you just can't catch back up. It's funny how they upped beam/auto aim damage numbers but not beam/auto aim heal numbers. Healing and damage should have been buffed the same way, especially since most heals are not hitscan/projectile. Even the ones that are hitscan/projectile weren't really helped by the buffs since they were already easier to land than damage equivalents.
Mercy main here, I remember this time where I damaged boosted a mei during cop they got so mad that I damaged boosted them, they ended up not playing for the rest of the game and just sold it all because I damaged boosted them
As a tank player i feel this decline, i was a gold and plat tank before OW2 now I'm just stuck in silver just feel terrible cause of how often i just explode for getting stunned to death
I left ow1 high diamond/20 points away from masters...I'm now hard stuck plat 3-1 just coming back and feel hopeless lol. I'm learning more champs but I miss being able to mercy her movement and positioning to me is so whimsical
hi mercy here!! thank you all so much for the nice comments 🥺i learn a lot from your VODs emongg so this meant a lot to me! I can definitely see my mistakes on the big screen here lol and hopefully I can climb back up. tysm again omg
You played great! Definitely do not seem anywhere in the gold-plat rank
Unfortunatelt the biggest advice is... switch characters. In a world where you can never catch up in heals supports that can do DPS reign king.
Kinda like Rein before his ult buff made him ever so slightly marginally less terrible to play.
yeah her skill ceiling is just too low
its not that mercy is bad, she didnt get any straight nerfs, anything she does now she would also do prior. creatros put her in lower tiers (which is where you got your info from) is based on the meta, which no one plays below masters, and the dps passive

TRUE they started running in one by one 😭😭
I feel the same way. I absolutely love to play her, but it's such a struggle.
Mercy is the worst character in the game and has been a throw pick for a while now. I also used to play mercy a lot but when you have literally any other support to choose from that would be better, i cant justify it in a competitive match
@@GoldenDeer_Actually I play her perfectly fine, I get more than 33 assists, Really good healing and so on, Maybe she’s just bad in high rank?

It seems like most of the comments are either complaining about Mercy’s state or doging on mercy as a character - neither which are helpful to this player.
Here are some things that this Mercy player can do to improve their gameplay (from a fellow Mercy enjoyer):
- Consider swapping Mouse 1 and Mouse 2 buttons to make your DMG boost your primary fire. This is by far the best change I did when I first started learning Mercy. There were quite a few moments where they held heal at full HP targets - and they’re effectively doing nothing during this time. By swapping M1 and M2, youll be DMG boosting as a default even when you’re focusing on something else (enemies, movement etc)
- Avoid healing your team if they’re already using a heal ability, damage boost instead (unless they’re under a lot of pressure and will die without your aid). This is great for 3 reasons: 1. They’re getting ult charge from doing extra damage with your DMG boost 2. They’re getting ult charge from healing themselves (soldier/hog/mauga/etc get a bit of ult charge) 3. Enemies will have to back up to heal up to offset extra damage from DPS passive and DMG boost, which means you’re not putting pressure on your team
- Polish up your movement.
Overall Mercy is in a rough spot right now but that just means we should DMG boost as much as possible to burn down the enemies as much as we can.
thank you!! i actually do have dmg boost as my primary but i completely forget to let go of heal sometimes 😢 i appreciate the tips so much
The rank reset was so frustrating - I was in Diamond 1 on Support about to break into Masters, Diamond 2 Tank, Diamond 2 DPS, after the reset I ended up in Gold 3. You'll be having a great game and be winning, then your teammate will leave and its so demoralizing.
.

People actually taking accountability is so rare in life lol let alone OW.
HOWEVER
Your teammates do suck sometimes in certain ranks and it really does hold people back.
The teammates are so hit and miss.
elo hell isnt real, its pure copium. if youre good enough you will climb
@@axophoria if u cant solo carry out of gold then thats your level bruh
elo hell doesn't exist, you're right where you should be. it's been proven multiple times elo hell isn't a thing, y'all are just bad and using the game/teammates being bad as an excuse. it's exceptionally more noticeable with people who enjoy playing glorified spectator mode heros like mercy & lw. i mean like you have people like bogur riding lw into higher ranks BEFORE he was changed. it's literally copium that anyone thinks they're 'stuck'
Emongg has fostered some excellent teaching skills through these VOD reviews
Zenyatta once said "Even the teacher can learn from his student."
being able to see the dps passive would be so sickkkk
until the tank never gets healed because supports will see the passive will constantly be on the tank. then when the tank asks for heals the supports will say they had the passive on them so they healed the dps instead.
@idnerfthat unfortunately it goes for everything else in the game, so it comes with better judgement.
So I’m a GM Mercy and this Mercy is better than Gold but they’re not Masters level. High Diamond probably. Things they can work on are faster decision making and flicking to Damage Boost faster. They heal and then hold healing on a full target for a solid two seconds before switching back to DB. It’s also little things like knowing Illari Pylon is healing your target so you can focus DB instead.

i swear they changed it. been playing for years and since last season you have to be literally on top of the cart to contest in OT
Yes but what led up to the mercy dying on that cart was because her teammates had bad positioning and died early, creating that situation!

They definitely need to add a ring on the ground to show the range of the cart, something similar to the ring lucio has around him
Too many people are saying to learn a new hero and that she sucks right now seems to forget that the thats the whole reason why she SHOULD be buffed a little.
It would be pretty cool to see the dps passive as a healer it would help me out a lot
Was Master 2, deranked to plat 2 so I feel the pain. Now I only farm comp point and don't care about my rank anymore lmao
I’ve never related so hard to a comment before. 😅
IMO
It’s very hard for supports who just heal bot. Supports who dps often are eating well
@@Foldgishnot true, i main kiriko who is arguably one of the most busted characters in game rn if not THE most busted and i play in gold, if your teammates suck you can't even get a few shots in because they'll literally get shredded and then blame you for not healing. i always try to go for damage as often as i possibly can especially because the insane headshots kiriko has, but sometimes my teammates actively hinder me trying to support my team because they expect all supports to healbot so they can make stupid plays and their mistakes can be forgiven in metal ranks. i guess it's the opposite in higher ranks, but playing support is so shit when your teammates don't/can't/won't understand that you're not a walking healthpack but a Support
7:30 the sandstorm wasnt the only thing raging after that accidental read
I’m in the same position. Was masters 5 and got knocked down to plat 2. It’s been a horrendous climb back upward. Only at diamond 5
i'm seeing a lot of missed blue opportunity
Hey this Mercy gameplay was good, you can definitely see that they were a master player before, I just think that you should try and learn another support for times where Mercy doesn't work or is too weak in the current game's state
Unironically; Learn to play a different support. It helps for when Mercy isn’t very useful or needed in the team comp.
Yup...we all dropping this season...I mean as players...I'm almost in silver...
We? I'm chilling in masters
@@GO-sz1nv Cool one of many that didn't drop. But if youre in masters you should know your buddies struggled this season.
@@GO-sz1nv lucky. I was in high plat and fell down to low gold cause of the new ranked system
I was diamond 6 seasons ago and I'm still diamond 😂 probably that my place right now forever
I’m noticing a lot of unnecessary slingshot/super jump usage, that extra .5s on GA’s cooldown could be the difference between life or death in a sticky situation
"letting them die and then ressing may have been the play" Oh god, Mercy's gone full circle...
I am a support main and mercy is the only one I cant even feel like i do well so this helps me feel better about giving her a try 💜 this person seemed to do very well
um as a controller player you absolutely can?
left trigger for all flying characters will have you float for mercy that's her rez ability so it doesn't matter if you hold it while in the air for pharah that is her jetpack ability and for echo it's her sticky bombs outside of that holding jump allows you to float and it doesn't stop you from looking around you just have to use both the stick and button at the same time it may be harder but not impossible
Currently struggling in silver as support but your videos have definitely helped
That dps passive idea is amazing
Same thing happened with me. I peaked diamond 2 (had 6 wins in a row, match put me in masters 5-3 lobbies and I won them all solo Que), then lost a bunch and fell. After that I’ve been focusing on classes and now hard stuck gold.
After struggling for the last 2 seasons on mercy solo queue, I’ve finally clawed my way up to diamond 3 on console. The best dps to pocket right now is sojourn I think. Definitely the most consistent railgun kills if they’re pretty decent with her.
This is the mercy I always get on the enemy team
😭😭😭
Everything about this looks nearly identical to my Mercy gameplay. No wonder I'm fucked this season.
It's rough right now q_q
if you pay very close attention you can see the passive on each person. it is hard to see sometimes though.
i have 100+ hours on mercy and the first thing i realized and disliked is the lack of using ga and the slow sens, ik ga is 2 seconds so maybe she was saving it for special occasions but if u double click ga (end it early) it will only have a 1sec cooldown and u can do a lot w that.
I peaked master 5 with mercy in season 3 when she had such a carry potential with all her buffs!Honestly I'm sad that they revoked them instead of just nerfing them
Valk felt honestly impactful but I gotta admit it boosted alot of mediocre mercy players into high ranks just by healbotting.
I would do anything to have a visual indicator for when my teammates have the passive on 😭 as a support main it’s so rough
Thanks for this tip! I’ve always wondered what the goal was overall for attack
Went from Bronze 1 to Gold 2 due to these helpful educational video reviews! These give so much insight on what a player is doing wrong, etc..
I want to thx this vods because it also helps people like me that are stuck on low diamond lol it helps to notice your own mistakes also
As someone who’s trying to get back in the game, for me it’s the changes to the super jump, it just completely messes up the way I used to play, and I always forget to do them now..I really think they shouldn’t have changed that aspect of her character but then again I feel like they’re simplifying everything?..😓
…its been 2 years. her sj is now a simple button
2:17 it should be a slanted purple tick at the leftmost edge of their healthbar.
Nice seeing some mercy gameplay!
def felt this. used to be t500 on console but when i switched to pc i fell to gold mmr n i can 100% accept the blame lmao i fell OFF
it's not u girl it's mercy this season being useless
pc and console are completely different beasts, to the point that t500 on console is like high dia on pc. makes sense you fell into gold after being t500 on console.
I like this content, it's nice to see high rank mercy getting attention.
Bro same. I was GM5 during the inflated season and hovered around there ever until the DPS passive. Now I'm in plat4 and still falling :(
Played since beta and have NEVER heard of an interact key to change spawn or whatever.
Mercy main here... this play is great. Its so good to see even despite her current difficulties she can still be played well. Good job
I mean to be fair, Mercy is literally the character that relies on being carried by a teammate instead of doing the carrying themselves.
Good idea, but as one mercy main, I dont really think its necessary (for me that is)
i peaked masters 3 before they put the passive in the game as a mercy main
now im d5/p1, i simply do not enjoy playing other supports THAT much but i do because im forced to. i cannot grasp how you can make a character so useless, if you dont have a dps that absolutely wrecks the enemy dps, mercy is just a throw pick at this point.
i am tired of trying to make Mercy work this season
I can relate, I used to stay in low diamond high plat n now I’ve been stuck in low gold high silver 😭
2:42 paladins had that indicator for years 😅
Paladins has a dps passive that reduces healing? And the game puts a mark to let supports know?
@@stumbling_no, anyone can get the healing reduction passive and yes, there is an indicator for it
about dps passive - huge yes! I thought they will add it after they added it to everyones screens but supports need to see it!
I think if they keep with the way it is atm, they should try bringing back the mercy passive where there is more healing for targets under half health
its crazy how in lower ranks, its the opposite rn. the matchmaking has been so wack this season.
