Like most other commenters, I saw one in my garden a few nights back.
It was night with the lights on. It made three little hops coming out of the rockery, I thought it may be a frog at first! then it grabbed, cautiously, a piece of toast off the lawn and retreated by pulling it backwards. It was so utterly adorable with it's big eyes and ears. Brought me so much joy!

Just caught one that my cat brought home. She rarely hurts them, just drops them in the lounge and let's them run under the furniture. 48 hours later , I caught it an returned it to the grass. Beautiful little creature.

I've caught 3 in my house and they lived with us in a big aquarium for the duration of winter. Now that spring has arrived I was preparing to set them free..
But they just birthed babies lol! So they'll stay with us till the babies are grown.😊

The wood mouse is adorable. So adorable that my calico kitty brings 300+ live wood mice into my home each and every year as "pets."
I get to catch and release them, and with their abilities to leap like mini-kangaroos and run like cheetahs, this is not always an easy task.
We're not in the UK, but across the Channel in the Netherlands, where all the "bosmuizen" speak fluent Dutch. 🐭 🇳🇱

      Please keep your cat indoors.

    • @beadbop
      @beadbop 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@jethrogauld7437 Thanks for the sentiment, but considering that our house abuts a forest and a church garden, our cats are perfectly safe venturing outside and bringing home the occasional wood mouse.

    • @jethrogauld7437

@@beadbop it isn't safe for the local wildlife population, they may be brought home alive but most will die of sepsis as cat saliva is full of bacteria. We keep our cars indoors for that reason and they seem perfectly happy.

Whilst I don't think keeping cats indoors is in the cats interests, it is most certainly in wildlife best interests, and now I am of the opinion its not good enough and actually keeping cats and taking no responsibility for there actions...explained away as that's what cats do isn't good enough...you could argue they are an invasive species...I'm not anti cat, I had a couple a long time ago🤔

@@jethrogauld7437 It isn’t safe for the cat. If the cat eats a mouse that was killed by poison, it can poison the cat.

I’ve got one of these little gems residing in my compost heap right outside the French windows. Needles to say the compost will not be touched and the mouse shall be made even fatter in the hope that baby mice wage war with the slugs.

I was playing a game on the laptop last night, and I look down, and theres a mouse just sitting there near the bedroom door on the carpet. It took me a few seconds to figure out what I was looking at. Then I just said the word "mouse" and it ran, lightning fast, so fast I had to question which way it went. Right or left? I stood up, looked down, and checked behind the desk next to the door. There it was. A mouse. Behind the desk.
I have two really bad knees, been going on years now. If I lay down on the floor, it ain't easy to even get up. I also cant move fast anymore. So this was gonna be an operation. Required planning. I got a bowl the size of a dinnerplate, and set it down. Then, like in that film The Green Mile, I realized that if I just lifted the desk, it would run off and get under any other of the 20 or so things in the room. So I started emptying everything little by little. Took two fucking hours!
Finally, I was like "OK mouse! Everythings moved! I'm coming!". I'd set up two escapes with towels, a natural place for the mouse to run if I missed it with the bowl. I also opened the front door and jammed it open. Then I lifted the desk.....
....no fucking mouse. Little bastard obviously gave me the slip while I was working. Hopefully it ran out the front door. Not seen it since. But the room is now very clean and organized.

Hi Steve, I have a family of mice living at the bottom of my garden but one of the mice is hairless and tiny. (Videos on my channel - th-cam.com/channels/AQwexOTIyz-dc6DlXTO-Yg.htmlvideos) I think these mice are field mice but they are all different sizes and I cant seem to find out if they are all the same type of mouse. Anyway, I don't know who to ask about these mice and came across your videos so was hoping you would be able to help. Thanks
