    It's a good thing you rescued the poor little guy.I can't understand why people are scared of mice.They'r so cute and tiny.

    • @MattBlytheTheOne
      @MattBlytheTheOne  8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +Marinda Colsten They are also savagely territorial, have sharp teeth and carry diseases. If left in cage without food they will even kill and eat each other! Generally they are cute though especially when young, if you are lucky enough to find a tame one.

      MattBlytheTheOne we'll ever hear of the Donner party? Lol I think if desperate enough, even humans can do depraved things out of self preservation... Some people sacrifice their lives for others and some kill for selfish reasons. Animals can too but can show extreme kindness too...

    • @MattBlytheTheOne
      @MattBlytheTheOne  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +inthelight7771 What is a Donner party? Most animals kill for food. Some will kill in self defence if they are capable, like snakes and some species of spider. We are talking about a frightened little mouse here. It is rare that animals show extreme kindness in the wild except to their own young maybe. Nature for the most part is about survival and evolution of the species. All life is an expression of the unconscious mind becoming aware and evolving back to Christ Mind.

      Marinda Colsten Field mice also jump and bite and carry some diseases that can possibly kill you so you make sure to wear gloves and wash your hands after you touch them

    Ahhh. I found a baby field mouse today. I feel so bad I hope she makes it. A baby girl. Eyes just opened. I am experienced at rehabilitating wild animals but I've never had a mouse. So my I pray for this one. My 6 year old daughter is in love with her so I have to keep this baby girl going no matter what.

      Izzys Mom Tattoos did your little mouse survive? I found one in my house this morning. I have no idea of the gender. It was scared stiff. I have fed it and made a nursery for it on a glass bowl. It looks to be about 3-4 weeks old. As tiny as Peter mouse in the video. I cut the foot off an old sock and rolled it into a nest shape. The mouse seems very grateful as I have 3 cats and 2 small dogs and is snuggled in the sock. It was one of my cats who alerted me to the teeny tiny mouse in my house!

    I just saved one from a cat out in the yard. It is 5 am of course and freezing outside! I brought it in to relax and let it go with a warm t-shirt in the basement with some apples. Hopefully he will be alright. People like us are rare to care about every little critter around and I am thankful we exist.

    I love animals - even mice & rats. I've saved 3. Last one was in a small take-out restaurant. I was walking past when I heard the girls screaming. I went in to check out what was worth all the hysteria, & it was a little mouse. I grabbed a basket & crawled under the booth & spoke softly to the mouse, making kissing sounds. I slowly & gently coaxed the mouse into the basket. I carried it out to the long grass in back & lowered the basket. It jumped out, turned to look at me once as if to thank me for rescuing it, & disappeared into the grass.

    18 months ago we had a tiny little woodmouse living behind our fire, luckily not being used at the time. We baited a humane trap with peanut butter and caught him. We discovered he had an injured tail, so dug out the old gerbil cage and installed him in it along with toilet roll tubes, egg boxes tissue paper and of course food and water. Because of his injury we decided not to release him, also the weather was awful at the time and there are many cats in the area so decided to see how he did in the cage. Well, he's still with us, living the life of Riley, he sits on top of the egg box which he stuffed with bedding and now sleeps in, and waits for his selection of food every evening. Cheese and fruit are his favourites. He's so sweet, has great big ears and big black eyes and I can watch him for ages. I will miss him when he goes to the big mouse hole in the sky!

    I just found a baby field mouse with a broken back leg that I'm going to attempt to keep. I live across the street from a vet, and they told me they would just put him down. He doesn't seem to be in pain, just can't use one of his back legs. There's no way I can let him go now, he won't make it on his own. Wish me luck! Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    • @MattBlytheTheOne
      @MattBlytheTheOne  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Paige Stout Can you find a sanctuary or animal rescue centre where they could set the leg? Either way name him or her flipper and good luck

      From what I've seen on youtube taking care of mice can be expensive. Be patient with him, if you can get a cage or make-shift cage hold your hand in it and do nothing so he gets used to you. Sometimes have food in it like little bits of peanuts or almonds. A tiny of bit of peanut butter works too. This way he'll know he can count on you for food, and add another thing he can trust you for. Use some kind of soft fabric in his home, something that would be easy to clean (and clean it once a week). Like you saw Matt do, have toilet paper rolls he can run through and have a small box he can hide in, giving him shredded up toilet paper or something similar for him to make a nest out of. When you go to pick him up, hold your hand there and let him put all four paws on before lifting so you know he trusts you & that he wants it. I'll find a mouse care for beginners video for you. Good luck with your rescue.

    • @nifflinNiffler
      @nifflinNiffler 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I called a vet clinic that I was familiar with and they told me all they would do is euthanize him because he is so small! I was so disgusted! I had to put him in a bigger box because he kept escaping, I don't know how to feel about that! One on hand i'm glad he can move around on his own but on the other hand I don't think he can take care of himself. When he escaped he didn't go very far and i always found him in the morning. Should I let him go or force him to stay??

    • @gilbertberger7234
      @gilbertberger7234 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Paige Stout Well, therein lies a conundrum. Mice are injured and die in nature all the time I'm sure. Though, if you can manage to take care of the lil guy and give him a good life, then I see no harm in that.

    Just three days ago, my cat, Arthur, deposited at my feet, minute baby mouse, wet, frightened but undamaged. Guided by TH-cam videos like yours, I made him/her comfortable is a shoebox and donated a pair of woollen socks as a snuggle bed, kitchen roll tubes one leading into a small hiding box and prepared a small dish of porridge oatmeal, breakfast cereal, crumbled small and softened with milk! Today I went into town in a warm car, taking Mousey with me and when parked, Mousey was lifted out, sat in my hands, sat up and commenced relaxed grooming and washing!! Now I only have to put my hand into the box and Mousey climbs straight onto my hand, washes, groom's and goes to sleep, making no attempt to jump down but seems happy just to sit there, also enjoying gentle stroking!! Very happy Mousey and so am I !!

    I do catch and release myself, but there was this one little guy caught my attention. Mainly because he just wouldn't stay released, The second time I tried, he crossed a four lane city boulevard and a dozen streets to get back “home.” There the poor, bedraggled little guy sits beside my frig saying, “can I please come home now?” Either that or “see, I'm way smarter than you.” Anyway, that was it. He's been my precious little Stuart for a year now, and I'm told he could be with me another year or two. It's never recommended to keep a wild animal as a pet, but there are exceptions.

    You are a very kind person to do this. I am trying to save a tiny mouse, about this size, that my cat captured this morning. Mine has a swollen eye so I am checking for infection. I wanted to read up and watch some videos on how to take care of the situation. Cucumber is a good idea. Hopefully the little guy feels better in a day or so. I love animals. Breaks my heart when my cat brings home anything, even though it's just his instinct.

    When I got off me school bus today I was walk and I herd squeaking I went closer to the sound and there was a chipmunk attacking the mouse I shooed it away and the mouse started to bleed out of a bit on the top of its nose I used a paper bag to move it to the woods it was just sitting there I got my sister and she tried to massage him and he was slowly getting better. I used a ten gallon cage and I put dirt/eco earth in with some grass, stones, and a bamboo hide we placed him in there he went in the blanket that we also place for food we put in apple slices and some lettuce like this if you want a update

    Thank you. I rescued one of these from my cat last night. I think he’s even smaller, only 3 cm long. I looked after him overnight as he kept dropping to sleep so I thought he was in shock but now realised he’s just so young. In the morning he had perked up so I put him outside somewhere safe and an hour later two cats were fighting over him. I brought him in again as just not safe for him in his current age/state and been trying to feed him. It’s possible he’s not even weaned yet. He’s the cutest little thing.. just like that and so friendly, loves being in my hands. I’ve ended up buying him a little mouse/hamster house with a wheel and am thinking of names.. as long as he eats that is!

    • @MattBlytheTheOne
      @MattBlytheTheOne  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh well done! If it isn’t weaned try a dropper or syringe with a milk and bread mixture. Make sure the bread is whole meal and is not lumpy in the milk. Good luck. Also leave a small amount of chopped cucumber, nuts and cooked rice in a tray next to some water. It will not eat much to begin with but might if it gets hungry enough. Keep it warm and send it loads of love but try not to overwhelm it too much xox

    • @heartOfGold2222
      @heartOfGold2222 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MattBlytheTheOne thank you very much for replying. The way you cared for the mouse really warmed my heart. Unfortunately my mouse died. I bought it a mouse house and some fur to sleep in but I think it died of loneliness as it was used to being close to the warm body of its mum. It purred ( little clicking sounds) when I held it and licked my hands but died after one night in its new home cuddling in its fur bed. It didn’t like me putting it down, wanted to stay in my hands. A few days later I found what I suspect was it’s mum and sibling squashed in a footpath so I believe it probably was just a bit too young to be away from it’s mum and it may have lost its mum before my cats brought it to me and there are probably other orphaned siblings who also were fending for themselves. Sad but it’s nature. I really grieved though. Little thing won my heart 😔

    • @MattBlytheTheOne
      @MattBlytheTheOne  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So diificult to raise orphaned like that, they need warmth, contact constantly and feeding every few hours... maybe it was injured? At least you tried and it died happy and feeling the love

      He came from the wild, his three siblings were killed by my dog in my kitchen at night, he must have hid so I made a trap to catch him, checked online to find out about them, they said throw them back as they are a vital food sauce and they only live a max 20 mths in captivity, I wasn't gonna let this one be killed by anything so I bought a cage and now he is part of the family :) cheers.

    I just found one this size... I assume it's about 8 to 10 weeks old. Still small. it was on the cement path leaning up against the curb. It was cold and windy and about to rain... it could barely walk. Shaky and wobbly... I figured it was dehydrated and exhausted. I put my hand down and it crawled right into my palm. I held it for 10 minutes to warm it up.. set it down then it came right back to me. I put my hand down and it crawled into my palm. So I took it home.
    Gave it a little wooden box with some tissue and some plants I grabbed where I found him. Also put tiny bit of fresh apple and lettuce and went to pet store and gave him a small block of mouse food. he nibbled the apple for sure and also the little bit of block of mouse food. I added cap of water with tiny bit of salt which he drank from. Also added another cap of water with a tiny bit of sugar which he drank from later. Added tiny bit of walnut.... he's already doing a little better.

    This is the cutest video ever! We saved a little field mouse yesterday from our two evil cats! The poor little creature was bitten on the head and had a floppy left leg:( I rescued it asap and because I have a hamster anyway, I have a small little cage to carry around rodents in- so I put the field mouse in there to let it calm down and recover. Fed it, gave it water, then waited until the cats were in for the night, then let the poor mouse back out as it's not right to keep a wild creature.

    I rescued a baby field mouse about 3 days ago from my cat. He was about the size of my thumb. Sadly he died today, unsure of the cause, but I think it was mainly the shock. I named him Totoro, he was so adorable. He did seem so lively but today he slowly seemed to become ill and very unbalanced. I held him for the last time knowing he may not be awake when I come back to see him. It's such a shame, he was such a beautiful mouse. Shame he had to go. :c

      Are you ok with that? I would be concerned about hygiene. Have you thought about catching them humanely and letting them go in the spring? Only problem with that is they breed very quickly so you would need to separate the males from the females, which might not be easy.

    Hi, I think you have to leave them alone for the most part until they have recovered from the shock/any injury they may have sustained. It is about giving love and healing the fear. And then gently encourage them to eat... if you can get them eating and drinking then you are in with a good chance. I let mine go as soon as He was trying to escape! I figured he would be happier free in the wild but Who Knows? We become attached so easily, thanks for sharing :' )

    I am taking care of an injured mouse right now, one of his legs is paralyzed and I dont think he can see out of his other eye. And I refuse to let him back in the wild because he won't be able to survive. I named him Jerry, I know I'll get attached to him. He is the sweetest thing he will climb up on my hand out of his box and I clean him (wipe his bad eye off of all the gunk) and try to help him drink and eat. I really hope he survives hes a sweet boy.

    We found 2 little field mice in a box in our shed earlier today, so small, probably only a bit bigger than your thumb :3 ever so cute, were going to find a nice big open area away from the roads and houses to put them back, until then, they're still in the box outside all cuddled up in a shredded towel :3

    Had one like this around some size or smaller, eyes still shut. I took care of it for months, then one day caught a bigger one running around the house. Thought it was a good idea to put them together so she wasnt lonely, the new one ended up making mine very aggressive and I had to drop them off miles away. Felt freedom was better. I miss my first mouse 😢

    As with most of the comments, I wil start with ''I found a temporarily played with wee field mouse today..." By cat, of course..(have never lived in a house without a cat...and this time, it weren't my cats...) I have also rescued rats, bats, and even a raccoon or two, all left to go out and explore their healthy devices, so to speak. But this wee girl I have is happily exploring a cage given to me and I swear, in all of my years having rodents as pets, I've never seen such a colorful array of tubes, secret hiding spots, and everything an active wee rodent would want. She settled in, through a series of blue and red tubes to a 'stash' area, where she has already sucked down a few seeds, and half a cherry tomato. It is now Fall here in Vancouver, BC, and my hubby and I agree that she came about through obvious abundance of luck, so we named her Moxie.
    Not that I have forgotten about keeping rescued creatures, but you never know what is now up that wasn't before..A lovey document to reassure that indeed, if you want to find a friend, feed any animal...Hope he is sti good as gold. Cheers.

  • @MattBlytheTheOne
    @MattBlytheTheOne  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sure it would, as long as they are friendly and not petrified. This one was a baby so it was easy to build trust. Older, wilder ones might be better off in the wild where they already know what to do to survive :))

    Aww! Give them some food and water, and some love. If you are quiet and gentle they soon get used to being around you especially if they are young. When you release them make sure they have shelter. If they are babies their mother might still be around. They climb really well btw and will escape any box you put them in without a lid LOL :)

    I’ve actually saved one yesterday. Ants were crawling on the poor thing but it was still breathing so I preformed CPR (breathing into its nose and rubbing it) and then I kept him in a old hamster cage and fed him hamster food, dandelion leaves, and milk. I provided him with warmth and the little guy was sleeping on my hand and completely calm. Grooming himself and eating food. The next morning he was all better and scurrying around the cage so I decided to Release but the bad thing was: it wasn’t scared of me at all, or any movements or my hand. Just happily grazing so he could easily get eaten. He wasn’t happy in the cage either so I let him go. The next morning I found him dead. Bitten on the neck but not eaten by a cat. Now I feel like a killer. Everything reminds me of him.

    If he's been older he would not have been as tame and trusting. I looked after 6 adult field mice for a few weeks and they just stay scared of me all that time. They'd been driven from their homes by the building of a hospital and took refuge in nearby houses for the winter.Let them out in a wood when the cold weather had passed. I have some vids featuring one of them.
    Hope Peter made out ok.

    I rescued another from my cat yesterday! He was mental! He was jumping all over the place. I released him a few hours ago, and he just jumped from elbow height out of a box into our garden. It was cute watching him go, but every time I went to put food in his cage, he tried to jump out. My mum reckons my cat has found a little nest of them. :s

    Please help .. my cat caught a baby field mouse maybe 2 weeks old still with eyes closed. I plan to keep it since it's healthy and too young to survive in the wild, however I just need to know how to remove any bugs it has? I've a phobia of bugs and it seems the poor thing is covered. I've previously had domesticated mice so i'm familiar with what to do in terms of care but anything to remove these bugs once and for all would be lovely!!!

    • @MattBlytheTheOne

      What kind of bugs are they? Ticks or fleas? You will need to google the natural remedy but I believe both are removable fairly easily. Good luck. 😊

    Did you trap it and bred them in captivity? I`m thinking about trapping some in the house... How do you go about testing them for HPS, lyme disease etc... (not all mice are infected) but its good to be on the safe side. Thanks in advance.

    • @MattBlytheTheOne
      @MattBlytheTheOne  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Brenda Vasquez Hi, I didn't trap it I rescued it from the cat. It didn't look diseased. It is a mouse. If you don't like handling rodents it's probably best not to keep them. If you are ok with them make sure you change their bedding frequently and wash your hands well with soap and water after handling them. :)

Been feedin him kittening formula 2× the water as suggested and done our best 2 keep him warm. Went 2 the pet store and picked up a whole 'starter kit' type deal and pine shavings as I dont feel good about releasing this lil one as we have the last 4 victims of the cat.... If this happens again it would be a good idea to buy a hamster cage in preparation or an aquarium with a ventilated lid. if using a shoe box line it with tpoilet paper & pierce holes in the lid. its the closed shoe box that would have frightened him. he was extremely tame & IO think it would have been better to keep him. I do hope he made it too but definitely in future give them more holes in the lid as they get claustrophic.
