No one died when Lillee, Thomson et al were cracking skulls. The fast balls became a problem when the Windies applied the heat.

One racist SA in form of England captain had to open his mouth and made llyod unleash his battery of fiery fast ballers . Andy ,holding, garner and croft were in full flow and we're not giving an inch . Add the king Richards and grenidge and ruthless llyod in mix of things and Tony was to keep his trap shut for good. 5-0 blackwash. The caribean crowd loved every moment of it. Beginning of the greatest cricket team ever on cricket field , unbeaten for a mind numbing 15 years (1980-1995). Thrashed teams like England, aus India and Pakistan home and away .in the end Tony was to grovel in every test he played against the mighty windies. Probably the prick that he was, served him right. . He had a deep hatred for windies and only when he was a commentator did he actually regret he had unleashed a brute single minded merciless battery of fast bowlers never ever seen before or since and the legend of legends that is the king Richards.

A lot of the problems in international test cricket from a popularity perspective can be attributed to the fall of WI cricket. In the 80s and early 90s, teams were chasing the WI. Chasing their standard of cricket. It is not a coincidence that Pakistan placed such an emphasis on pace bowling when before 1975, they were content with playing medium pacers. And really and truly Lillee and Thommo were the fathers of modern pace bowling but who became their greatest disciples, one of at least three 80s pace quartets from the WI. The WI were so potent that they changed the sport. Australia of the 2000s and late 90s were champions, a truly great team, but to say they changed the way the game is played... nah. SA became the no1 team by applying WI principles from the 80s

This was the era of extreme racism in cricket where countries like England, Australia and South Africa could play the game the way they liked but the other commonwealth realms would be warned by the umpires if they did so.

which proved nothing. Sir Viv never wore a helmet. Close: 22 test matches, 884 runs. Sir Viv: 121 test matches, 8540 runs. Close wasn't tough he was stupid, letting a ball hit you proves nothing except you are too old and too slow to get out of the way. A British Dunkirk spirit does not hide the fact you lost!

Can there be this bowling line up again ? NEVER EVER INDEED ! Imagine you have to face the very dangerous Andy Roberts Joel Garner next change is Michael Holding and Malcolm Marshall...all four very different and styles strategies . What an era that was and many have missed this era and will never ever understand what these 4 names were in bowling for oppositions and batsmen world over. Absolute terror its like getting slaughtered murdered killed going into bat & facing them. As if entering a cage of vicious wild animals full of Lions Tigers Cheetahs Panthers . These bowlers gave forced and gave birth to one bouncer per over rule from England. Patterson Walsh Bishop Ambrose were the last recognized dangerous famous 4 from West Indies after the Fab4 Never even in cricket history Man of the Match semifinal and the finals 1983 World Cup Hero Super Star Mohinder Amarnath is the most highly underrated player in the world. 1982 Imran Khan said he is the best in the world for playing fast bowling especially Bouncers short deliveries highest scorer in that 1982 series in Pakistan , 1982 1983 West Indies tours Viv Richards said Jimmy Amarnath plays west indian bowlers and all global quick genuine fast bowlers the best. I have seen him play since 1980s he got hit on head jaws face nose got injured the most like no other player ever in cricket history you can check about him and you will be shocked to know how brave and courageously Mohinder Amarnath hit the hook shots attacked them with ease to the worlds fastest bowlers Lillie thomson hadlee imran roberts marshall garner holding etc Also note that current Williamson root kohli babar Smith AB Devilliers Maxwell Chris Gayle Rohit Sharma etc can't bat against these quality bowlers and that too with bigger larger sophisticated bats state of the art protections ⛑helmets guards equipment gadgets fielding rules shorter boundaries restrictions on bouncers. Boycott vs Holding Richards vs Lillie Gavaskar vs Marshall Srikanth vs Imran Khan Mark Waugh vs Alan Donald Kohli vs Anderson Waugh vs Ambrose Any other encounters you know please add them here.
