And no food, no gas and no idea when it will come back! As Houstonian who dealt with one category this year, I hope more people evacuate

It doesn't matter if you have food for 2 weeks. Do you have enough sandbags for a 12 to 15-ft storm surge of water? I don't think so. I know the airports should not be shut down already and gas is already out at any gas stations. I don't think the governor knows what he's doing. He said there was gas. No there is not hotels trying to charge double the money. What's wrong with that?
The governor protects big corporations. Who owns a the hotels? Big corporations!

Just watched a video of a mother from the last one that went through, they decided to stay, after climbing the roof she decided to go on line and take videos for her followed. Then her house collapsed and she was able to save herself but not her nine year old he cried, was terrified then went under. No one saved him, he wasn't protected, he had no choice. I have a genuine question. Why dont they use half of the other side of road in times like this? there are very few people going that way you could get 2 or 3 more lanes which would help speed up things a lot. Why not?
They did for Katrina. Not even half. The entire other side of the interstate was outgoing.
Poor Government management systems in place.
SC does lane reversals so both east and west are all going west. Lesson learned when what was it Floyd can't recall at the moment, but people got stuck on our 2 lane highway (at the time) and it was the main way in and out.

DeSantis doesn't care
From the State of California Office of Emergency Services web site:
In total, California has deployed 284 highly specialized personnel to support hurricane response efforts in recent weeks
SACRAMENTO - With Hurricane Milton expected to make landfall in Florida this week as a Category 5 hurricane, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the deployment of 144 firefighters and ground support personnel from three California Urban Search and Rescue Task Force teams to assist with incident management, emergency operations and search and rescue efforts.
This incoming aid is in addition to California Urban Search and Rescue resources recently deployed to support the response to Hurricane Helene, including 140 firefighters and support personnel from California/FEMA US&R Task Forces.
This is what putting politics aside looks like.
Awesome, Ca!
See how wonderful we are out here in the land of 72 degrees and blue skies! You can knock our government, our expensive houses and our traffic but our weather is picture perfect! Even when it does rain, it's beautiful
Exactly what I'm afraid of. FEMA comes here and confiscates all the supplies that people are donating for the victims of this hurricane, we're going to look just like North Carolina and the surrounding states. Alejandro Maracas said that FEMA is bankrupt, then the White House sent 157 million to Lebanon for humanitarian aid. We know where the priorities are in the Jobama regime. Everyone knows that George Soros and Barack Hussein Obama or two of the most evil people on earth! They make Adolf Hitler look like a choirboy.
With how often Californians brag about their wealth and power, you'll have to pardon my not being terribly impressed with a light company of firemen and three SAR teams. Bragging about this is... well, it's like bragging about holding the door open for someone. You aren't getting applause for doing what's expected.
Better than nothing, I guess, but they'll be drops in the bucket compared to what neighboring states and private citizens will be sending.
Call your politicians and tell them to stand with France. Stop funding war crime!
How can you evacuate without gas. Ain't no way I would evacuate right now. Do you want to die in your car or at home

Plan ahead and buy gas days before like Monday?
@@vet137 yeah, those evacuating or planning to should have filled up at the latest yesterday. there were some stations that were out yesterday evening
Why wasn’t a surplus of gasoline available? Seems like a GOP governor should be able to tap his oil buddies for extra fuel? I love it when they order an evacuation and don’t think about beefing up the petroleum supplies.

The quality of most buildings is crappy. Look at the wooden debris, no solid structure there. Reconstruction makes sense only with massive outer walls of concrete or bricks. Some recycled materials also do. And : massive concrete foundation plus 3 meter stilts of metal or concrete. Alternative : rebuild same wooden house after every storm -> makes no sense. And : Large Hurricane-proof shelters on stilts for those who cannot leave. And : generous drainage floodplains to divert water from residential areas during flooding. And : Afforestation of every available square meter to regulate hydrology. Use renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. Vote for the party engaged in fighting climate change.
Nice knowing you FL, good bye, God bless.
Why people still live in Florida is crazy to me. Hurricanes make that place uninhabitable
Truth, a lot of Florida home manufacturers built residents homes in what was once Everglades. I’ve seen them literally drain swamps to try to fill land by making fake lakes to try to carry the load of runoff. Southern Tampa was once all Everglades. Mother Earth just reclaiming.
