She never told anyone that she was black. It was figured out within a week, but the marriage never recovered from what happened. It was a very sad thing to see, everyone in the office laughed behind his back, and that only fed his anger, he was the jock type, always insecure about his manhood. I’ve lost contact with him, that kid has to be in his mid twenties now. Life is stranger than fiction sometimes.

It happened in the USA. In Portugal a mother has 6 months to stay at home with the baby plus a bonus for giving birth to a baby. For 2 years a mother or parents have this bonus and if the single mother can't afford to giving proper care to the child /children, she receives money from the State. It's called Social Security.
Same in Canada. A year off for mom’s parental leave, then dad can take a year off. You get a monthly employment insurance cheque during this time. If you need additional help as a family, or as a single mom, social assistance gives you money monthly.
Not here in the US! I have known women that work in the USA till they give birth, take the week off as vacation leave, then go back to work. I never realized that the rest of the world did it differently until I met several people from other countries. I remember one of the boys I met from Brazil said that he did not realize how work obsessed Americans are. One of the girls I met from India was shocked by how few holidays we have. I knew a young woman in Glasgow in Scotland in the '60s who was a little darker than most but well within what any Scottish person might be. Years later I learnt her parents had moved from the West Indies to Glasgow (then an almost entirely white city) because although in the Islands they were known to be "black" in Glasgow they could pass as white. This was a carefully guarded secret. I heard from a mutual friend that she decided to contact her West Indian family, found out they were visibly and obviously black and that she got on well with them.

I once worked for an organization that helped mothers, babies and young children get food and formula. The parents were dark complected and had black hair and eyes. By contrast their baby had blond hair and blue eyes. Genetics can be tricky.

If it was one baby then yes, but how likely is it that there would be multiple triplets born the same day. Plus, the mother and father usually see and hold the baby prior to being put in a nursery. But there's so many stores of babies being born with different skin colors, it could skip generations but the most fair thing to do is get a paternity test before reacting for sure

She married 3 Rich White Men who were much older than she was but never had kids. All 3 of her husbands died and each left her money. At 50 she finally met and married a very dark skinned Black who had been a secret friend for years he knew she was Black and always kept her secret. He had a young son and his wife had died so my Aunt got to become his Mom. She really was a wonderful woman and did accomplish a lot of things in her own right.
