I didn't get to see Dio until 1984, on the Last in Line tour (the first of close to 20 times I saw him, both solo and singing with Black Sabbath). Amazing show!

Dio canme to Nashville twice in the same year! I bought the Last in Line tape and blasted it out of my 79 Trans am !!!! 1985 was the year, and all the cool kids at my high school loved Dio ! And Sabbath with Dio ! Those two concerts we went to were amazing! The Giant Dragon, breathing Fire ! Too cool !!!!

Got to see Dio and Dokken in ‘86!!! Both were excellent!
Excellent that you have the two reviews that close in time. Well done!

I saw Dio on the tail end of the Holy Diver tour at the Santa Cruz Civic in January of 1984. It was my first concert experience, and at 13 years of age this was a show that changed my life forever. It was an astounding gig. If I recall correctly, the band played every song mentioned in both articles along with "Don't Talk To Strangers", "Mob Rules" and "Invisible". Dio sounded great as always and the band were on fire. I still have all the merch I bought as well...... Holy Diver button, tour book and baseball style t shirt. Later saw Black Sabbath on the Dehumanizer tour and Ronnie's voice was just as powerful as it was all those years before.

I saw Dio at the Santa Monica Civic Theater in 83, and he was phenomenal. He had a huge stage set, and the band was on fire. I remember it very well, it was extremely impressive!

Sadly, never seen him live. Had friends that did, and they said Dio live was the best concert they ever seen.

Saw Dio in Edinburgh, it was 84 I think, Queensrÿche were the support band promoting The Warning album, fantastic night. Saw Dio a few more times & was never disappointed. RJD had a classic “heavy metal” voice that suited the subject matter of the songs & the music. One of my favourite singers.

Bob ive always been a fan of Ronnie James Dio I saw him in 85 when last in line came out and every time he came to Cleveland after that. I had the privilege of meeting Vinnie appice at a drum clinic. There's not a day that goes by that I don't listen to Dio.(Trading places one of my favorite movies! Lol) back in the day a friend of mine made a huge Dio banner out of a queen size bed sheet which we honorably paraded around Richfield coliseum to the sounds of a huge ovation. I actually got Vinny to sign it when I saw him at the drum clinic 😊

Yea unbelievable records, HAH and MR. I remember seeing holy diver on the record store wall and thought … Dio? The same Dio from Rainbow and sabbath? Bought it, loved the record. Classic. I think I like heaven and hell and mob rules better as a work of Dio, put this one ranks right up there, exceptionally great

I thought Holy Diver kicked ass! I got to see the tour. I'd never heard of Vivian before, but I thought he was a Beast! Great gig!
I was familiar with the other 3 guys in the the band. I'd seen Vinny with Derringer a couple times, circa 76 and 77. I'd seen Ronnie and Jimmy with Rainbow 2 or 3 times. I think I'd mentioned this in one of your other vids, but cuz I'm a little older, I got to see Elf open for Deep Purple in 74. I'd never heard of them, but they were a cool warm up band. So in a 9 year span, I saw him with Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath, and the Holy Diver tour! All luck, because of my age 🤷‍♂️
Watching your channel brings me a whole lot of good memories, thanks 🤘

Yes my brother and I saw him in Dallas at the Bronco Bowl
Unfortunately we thought his voice was blown out. However I remember him doing a montage of songs including Man on the Silver Mountain and Children of the Sea

I remember being Blown Away by Dio in Rainbow and then when Dio joined Black Sabbath I Really became Fan of Sabbath because how Perfectly Dio fit with Sabbath and getting to see Mob Rules Tour Wow ! Randy Rhodes had become a Guitar Hero and got to see him couple months before he got killed and I remember we were all in shock now wandering who as guitar player will fill void and when Dip brought out Vivian Campbell and was Blown Away and couldn’t believe it was Vivian filling that void went to several Dio concerts Amazing

The First Time I heard Ronnie James Dio was on the 1st Blackmore's Rainbow Album/w the Man on the Silver Mountain in December 1975. Rainbow Rising was Much Better! Still one of my Favorites Today! Then thanks to FM Radio Chaum FM Montreal, I discovered Heaven & Hell & The Mob Rules! Finally made my way to: Holy Diver & Last in Line in 1985!

@@audiomover I believe I bought them both together? Man that was expensive in those days!! $8.99 each but totally worth It! As I used to transfer the music immediately to 90 Minute Cassettes to listen to on the Bus to Work! 1 Album per Side.

@@michaeloneill1360 I often did the same thing so the album would really only get played once, when I put it to tape. I put soooo much money into LPs, LOL. I still have almost all of them.

I didn't see RJD in concert I am not angst over it but I did like the hear n aid project. The D & D vibe was a bit much but i never got a slightest bit of a fun time in none of his songs.be that as it may much respect and God bless his memory.tape snob introduced me to Dio,a Christian song he did with Kerry livgren of Kansas,Living For the King.

Ahem... Electric Elves. Point of Fact: When Dio recorded his first record, Tony Iommi was 10 years old. btw, I saw Sabbath on the Dehumanizer tour, looking back, it was three Dads with their Dad, just chugging thru another set, but they were heavier than Testament.

amazing content .the shows were awesome at this period .the only thing that lacked was warner bros.push at the time . the band had to prove themselves again and again for some reason. to my understanding warner really lobbied for Ronald to lead FASTWAY after he left sabbath.

I saw Dio on the Last in Line tour in Hawaii with Yngwie Malmsteen opening the show and Dokken playing second. Great show by all three bands but speaking as a guitarist myself, i wouldve hated to be George Lynch and/or Vivian Campbell having to go on after Yngwie.

"Shamefully short:" that was how I felt seeing the UK leg of this tour a few weeks after these reviews. Quite honestly, it felt like a rip-off. I was a massive Dio fan at the time, this was a hugely anticipated concert for me, and for a headline band to be gone from the stage after little more than an hour, including encores, was just not good enough. The show was only just warming up, and suddenly it was over. Perhaps the biggest disappointment I have ever had at a live show. To be fair, the band came back a year later and played one of the best gigs I've ever seen, on the Last in Line tour. Two outstanding guitar players musically came of age in the UK in 1983: John Sykes with Thin Lizzy and Vivian Campbell with Dio. Both were heavily influenced by Gary Moore, so they were not quite as much of a revelation to British ears as they might have been in the USA. Dio gets a free pass from a lot of people, but, one way or another, he seems to have fallen out with most of the people he worked with along the way, and I doubt that the fault was always on the other side.

The Holy Diver show was good but the stage props looked like a high school theater play production that threw me off, thats when I discovered its a show, not really a concert. Music was tight tough.

You made me realize a thing, which I'm telling you ,no, I'm sharing with you that I glean much from the pod.the problems with reviews is they ought to be what the person saw and heard.not op/Ed. I was done with commercial appeal in Memphis when they began political endorsements. Partiality and bias.not straight news.
The second one,on a smaller scale, felt like it.
