    The bar is called a Whammy Bar - this beat up 62 Stratocaster he called "Number 1" - maybe the single most famous guitar on the planet - was customized (I will hop back to that momentarily) - Jimi was one of SRV's obvious top 3 or 4 influences - have you seen his rendition of "Little Wing" Live from El Mocambo? Or heard his studio version? They are both instrumentals but are absolutely the most fitting tributes any human could ever give to Jimi. awe-inspiring - both. Back to the Whammy Bar - on a normal righty guitar it sits below the bridge - so like at the bottom of all the strings - but to pay homage to Jimi, Stevie had his customized to sit atop the bridge above all the strings like Jimi had his due to the whole lefty/righty guitar setup - just a fun fact. You will see what I mean if you see any other live Stratocaster players vs how Stevie's bar is set up. I have a custom SRV Fender Strat done the same way - Jimi's guitar of choice was also a Strat however he flipped and strung it thusly (this guitar was my High School grad present and is is now at age 28 and it sounds better every year since its birth - in - ugh - 1994 - yup I am Gen X - the best one of course :) I am kidding we are all children of the Earth together especially us music lovers - but then again I am sort of not? We were just lucky (now we are old so our luck SUCKS) and we quietly smile and sit out all the silly drama btw Boomers vs Gen Z and all that nonsense - but man we were lucky as we came up in one of the true the golden eras of music - the 90s - where Hip Hop came of age and was real music with banging hard and/or jazzy or melodic beats and insane lyricism with meaning behind it to boot; Grunge changed rock forever and made it relevant again; true Alt-Rock was filled with incredible bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Oasis and Portishead and Rage Against the Machine and a zillion more; Nine Inch Nails and others did industrial rock; and of course Electronica music came of age - I got to listen to Wu Tang Clan's debut on a cassette tape and immerse myself in Radiohead influence he next 35 years with "Ok Computer", and hit the black lights and psychedelic screen savers to Daft Punk, Underworld and the Prodigy - but before all of that I loved the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin - which at their core were blues bands which unknowingly sunk in - caused me to learn guitar, and fell in Love with Stevie (after he died in the saddest irony)as my idol above all. But - I mean - Jimi - nothing even needs to be said about him - a phantom demi-god sent down from another dimension. But lets not play around - Stevie had a free lifetime pass to that dimension himself. If you are not so sure I am correct, keep your journey going. A great vid to watch (I have to go back and see what your other reaction was - his all time legendary performance is "Texas Flood" at the El Mocambo) but it is just the start of an endless set of performances that blow you away literally every time - he never played the same song twice the same way, used .13 gage stings which is like getting rid of your thinner bottom two high strings then just moving the rest of them down 2 spots - part of how he got that tone - yet he could still bend 2 whole steps, hold the note, and shake the guitar to get perfect vibrato. And he played every note like the universe depended on it, and also had a smile and a good time at every show despite many years of rough personal struggles. He was - like Jimi - such a humble, quiet, respectful (always downplayed himself and said everyone was better than he was and not as a game - he meant it) - but he also knew he was meaner than a caged tiger with rabies and Ebola with that tone only a handful of people have ever dreamt of achieving - like a delicate freight train bursting into your living room but doing it so precisely while you might have no walls left all of your lamps and photos are still left exactly in place - that is SRV - you should get into as much as you can of his huge category of live vids -you will love every note of it. I recommend watching "Mary Had a Little Lamb: Live rom Austin City Limits." Thanks for the vid!

      Stevie’s first wife called Number One is a 1959 Fender Stratocaster, now worth almost $1 million dollars. Thank God for blessing us with that beautiful soul to share his brilliance with us for a few years before his tragic death. RIP❤️‍🩹 SRV🎸

    Stevie ask for and received permission from Jimi Hendrix's father to record this song.
    Many people tried to compare Jimi Hendrix and SRV during Stevie's lifetime. In all the clips that I have seen of this, Stevie would smile and say, "There is only one Jimi Hendrix."

    Whammy bar. Agreed, Jimi's Axis Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland are brilliant. Long version of Voodoo Chile is amazing. "If I don't see you no more in this world, see you in the next one and don't be late." SRV would make Jimi proud. R.I.P. Jimi and Stevie.

      Whammy bar just a little bit; there's more wah-wah pedal. Other reactors have mentioned it was given to SRV by Jimi Hendrix's family early in SRV's career, after Jimi's death. A "veteran" piece of rock 'n' roll history and recording. In a few spots in this performance, SRV almost echoes Jimi's "rockets' red glare" from his Woodstock version of the National Anthem!

    Thanks, K&O - SRV was the GOAT... (IMHO) - enough acronyms... he was just amazing... no matter how tough those strings were, he usually managed to break one.. and then make an amazing transition...(BTW, this one looks "easy" for him - there is another live version where he plays most of it behind his back) lol Look forward to more from you...

      Although Stevie did play on David Bowies album, he never toured with Bowie. Bowie asked him to but he said no so he could do his own thing.

    • @Trucker231610
      @Trucker231610 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since SRV never played on Bowie's tour I find this amazing!!
      He did play on the album but refused to bow to Bowies demands when it came to the tour. In essence Bowie wanted Stevie to forget about his band Double Trouble and play in the background for him. That wasn't his style and as history shows it was the right move for SRV.

    If you notice the whammy bar on Stevie's guitar was screwed in on the upper side of the bridge instead of the normal position at the bottom. That's because the bridge on his guitar is left-handed. That was one of the ways he tried to emulate Jimi.
