Darcy Kuemper has been phenomenal this season he hasn't allowed more than 1 goal in 5 straight games, and has a top 3 save percentage in the league idk why they would get rid of him he's been one of the teams strengths, and he's been a very solid goalie outside of last season when he had injuries
Exactly. And if you get Gibson and keep on some of the salary, then what's the point? You're not getting out from under the PLD deal by doing that. TBH you're messing with chemistry also.
You’re missing their biggest weakness… the power play. It’s atrocious, and their biggest need is a right shot power play specialist and perhaps a new PP coach.
Without a workable PP, we will not succeed in the Playoffs. Teams can be more aggressive against us and less disciplined and take the risk of the penalty, knowing that they are doing more damage physically and mentally.
Kopitar is ABSLUTELY one of the most underrated players in the league, and always has been. If he played on a team in a traditional hockey market, he'd be talked about all the time. Once he retires, he WILL be the greatest Kings player of all time. No question about it.
Trading Keumper for Gibson would a downgrade tbh. Keumper has been solid this year and I think our tandem is actually fine but will be a question mark next season because Portillo is on the rise.
kings fan here, this team does feel different than previous years, but we need to make a splash at the deadline, however i think kuemper is the man that should be between the pipes. our powerplay is the real dark spot right now, i think its a bottom 5 in the league. the kings really need a great 2nd or 3rd liner that can score. if our defense keeps playing the way it is kuemper should be fine, as seen with his avs cup run in 2022
As a Kings fan, I understand why people question the goalie choices have been.....well, weird. But one thing people forget, is LA has been great on defense. And they help the goalie. No matter who is in net. And in return, the goalie helps the defense. I liked the pickup of Kuemper.I liked him, when he played the short time in LA in 18-19 season. I do think they keep picking up and dumping goalies is, they are waiting for Portillo to be NHL ready. This seasons team seems special. Now, if they could just learn to be better when playing on the road. That would be great.😂😂
honestly our biggest weakness is the lack of a superstar, and it really shows on our PP. yeah sure kuemper isn't the best goalie in the league but he's been playing fantastic, nothing to complain about
Kings fan since 1973. If the Kings play the dirty Oil again they will lose. The Oilers are 8-2 vs Los Angeles in the playoffs. The Dirty Oil have had our number since 1985. Not even trading for Gretzky helped the Kings.
I feel the refs favor the Oilers tho...😢. There was WAY too many dives from Oilers we got called for. I remember vividly when McDavid took a dive & was smiling on the way down. Im so.glad they lost last season just because they were the "fan favorite" thier dirty Oilers plays caught up with them.
All this assessment and no mention of the middle six forwards? And none of Alex Turcotte? Or how solid Mikey Anderson and Vladi Gavrikov have been and staying the course in Dewey's absence? There's just a bunch that you missed here. No, their number one issue has been, like many seasons before, is consistency. As a whole that is. Kopi will score a point a game until he retires. But the team has a knack for struggling against their one division, and having bad months, like...January. It seems to be a curse. They're just coming off a 2-3 road trip through Canada where they lost all three games to division opponents. In-division points are important, and they seem to somehow leave them on the table. But they'll beat top teams like Winnipeg, seemingly without issue. It's just so frustrating as a fan. Anyway, those are my issues with the synopsis. Otherwise, agreed.
KINGS!!!! Always love a Kings hockey video. As a die hard Kings fan I personally think their biggest need right now is a scoring winger. The Kings defense has been phenomenal and they're about to get Doughty back which will make the blue line pretty crowded. Mikey Anderson has been great, Gavrikov has looked amazing, Edmundson has fit in surprisingly well, and they finally decided to play Moverare who has been steady as hell as a 3rd pair LD. Kings biggest concern right now is their 29th ranked powerplay at just 16.5%. If they can add a decent sniper, that could be a really nice boost to team scoring and hopefully help the powerplay as well. Really hope they can get over the hurdle this year.
The reason why the Kings are so successful is cause they all believe in the program and don't tend to veer from it. The forwards coming back to help out the D has been a huge factor. Foegle has been an absolute god send with his play night in and night out. The one area I'd like to see the Kings improve is on the PP. These missed opportunities are the difference factor in lost games. And this is where I think the one piece the Kings need is true scoring forward. Wouldnt touch the goalies, their numbers are currently amazing.
Big kings fan and time will tell. One thing many are not considering has been the teams schedule. We have had A LOT of roadtrips and our home record is one of the best in the league. Our second half schedule is largely at home, so hopefully like 2012 that carries us into the playoffs hot
The Kings as they are constructed are one of the most "dangerous" teams to play in the playoffs. They won't win many games 5-2 or 6-1, but they are likely to win 4 out of 7 games 2-1 or 3-2. What could certainly take them to another level is better production from the power play. Hopefully a Doughty return or addition of another player will help. Go Kings Go!!!
Life long Kings fan here… I can say that we are all shocked at how well the team is playing, especially Turcotte, Laferriere, and Clarke, everyone has stepped up. Also QB is also extremely young still, he’s a stud, that’ll become more prominent when kopitar starts to take a lesser role. I’m excited to see how we match up (with Doughty) against Mcjesus.
One thing was addition by subtraction getting rid of PLD. The dude almost never played hard like he was afraid to get injured. I'm so glad he is gone. The addition of Foegele was phenomenal. He is a honey badger out there, taking no shift off. Edmunson and even Jeannot were good additions, although a bit costly as they brought some ruggedness and compete that the Kinga did not have enough of and Kuemper playing well after a trash start. As far as the left shot d, it could be helpful, but the way the Kings have been utilizing the left side is at a shut down role while the RD was more the jump in the play sort so I don't know if they will make that move. The biggest potential flaw is the play of Fiala. Although a tremendous talent, he does so much stuff where you just face palm. He has a no movement clause, so I doubt he gets traded, but they need to get him the right linemates. He is always having to be switched. Also, they are looking for a left wing for the top line. Right now, Turcotte has that slot, but they may make a move there and get a proper left winger. Who knows? It will likely be something nobody expected. To add: the LD could be a need. Moverare has become more trusted but I don't know how they feel about him holding the 3LD spot going forward. I'm curios if they let him be the guy.
@m4t67u I'm not sure. Anderson - Matheson - and Edmunson on the left side does have a ring to it. Matheson is a good player and all and brings more offense than other guys, but maybe they will stick with Moverare on the 3rd pairing. They seem to trust him more and more, but yeah, I could see how that could be a potential trade.

We have 2 Kings teams and we just don't know which of these 2 has shown up to play. . Some nights we give up 5 other nights we can beat the defending cup champs. . We are way too unconsistant. I heard a lot about Pittsburgh wanting to get their hands on Gibson after accepting they made an error, a not too costly one, but still, an error to think Jarry would ever come back to his pre 2023 injury. Nedejlkovic and Blomquist aren't enough, I've heard the name "John Gibson" a whole lot since Jarry was moved to the AHL because for Sid's sake, they need to make the playoffs this year after being tossed out by 1 point twice in a row. But maybe Gibson would prefer going to LA, which implies not having to move him and if he has a family, all over the continent to PIT where he would have a lot of pressure to be the Gibson from 2018 and immediately so.
Our Power Play is absolutely dreadful and the biggest thing holding us back. We also need guys like Fiala, Byfield, and Moore to produce more. Bill Ranford is in charge of goaltending here and he always does a great job getting goalies in who play well. Even bargain bin Talbot wasn’t bad for us last year. As for our defense, I don’t think we need a left sided d-man since Gavrikov will move back to left probably and then we have Anderson and Edmundson who have been good. I feel bad for Moverare who has been so solid on our 3rd pair but just due to how good we are he will get pushed out.

As soon as DD comes back Gavi will slide back to the left. .Kuemper has been a .900 SV% in 6 of the last 7 seasons. How well have the oilers done with their "superstars"?
I’d say coming within 1 game of the cup is pretty good not only that they will win a cup with in the next 5 years
