I had the good fortune to work with Bob Sands in the Glenn Miller Orchestra years ago; the guy is a BAD ASS! Forget the video quality; listen to the cats play..... These cats are swingin'........especially Bob....... Excellent!
So cool to find this! I met Bob back in high school on Long Island and he was terrific back then (I think he was 16 when I met him). So much better than I could have thought! Awesome band; such musicianship!
Really nice performance! Great sax and bone solos, and sax soli too. The video editing is very distracting though! Like someone was trying to put in every editing transition in the book into the first 3 minutes of the video. Still, the band is GREAT so i will rate it 4.
That was my brother, Norman Frederick Hogue, 1959-2021, may he R.I.P. The band's founder and leader, Bob Sands, passed away only weeks before Norm. Two great musicians, colleagues, and friends. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
Maybe it's just personal taste, but I thought the saxophone solo was too be-bopish. Maybe back off the scales a bit and play some more simple and accesible rhythms. I think the reed he used hurt his tone too much as well. Great everything with this band though.

Hello, from USA Mississippi, thanks for this classical piece love it. good suff. Happy to know this musical form is yet cool and kicking
i just played it with a group and freakin loved playing that sax soli!!!!!
Great band. Nice groove. And I really loved the sax solo. Exciting drummer too. Made my day.
The video editor should be fired.
Bob - Miles Osland here - what are doing on alto? I always had you pegged as a straight-ahead 4/4 tenor guy! Great band!
that is one HELL of a way to use what appears to be the end of a plunger-awsome trumbone is awsome.
That was the late Norman Hogue, playing that awesome trombone with the business end of an always new, never used, plunger. 😉
amazing band, amazing sax solo, everything amazing
rhythm section v. good also
Bob sands amazing solo. I loved your article in downbeat about your award! wish i could jam with you one day. peace
Sounds great Bob !
Os descubrí en el programa que echaron en la 1 de Bertín Osborne durante las navidades
Sois geniales!
You guys really swing big time!!
The video editor was fired from the Mike Douglas Show in the 1970s.
Excellent alto solo. Beautiful sound. Kind of "Paul Desmondish".
my school played this, we had 4 days to practice and got an excellent a mpa's. not bad

Much jazzier than my band, that's for sure.
Where are the saxes on the "and" of 2 in the beginning?! The drummer was even hitting it with his kick.

I like the Buddy Rich version.
my band sight read this at a performance... went like crap but we made it
Such a good group, such terrible/overdone video editing....
but then again there are two versions of the menza arrangement too so hmmm
Dat sax soli.
Awesome hair on that Drummer. You'd think it'd get hot under there....
to Much"
goos stuff. the groove feels ( to me ) a lil forced.. but technically great
the band sounds great - the video sucks. Trying too many effects and cuts.
The editing on this makes it unwatchable.
The effects are giving me a headache

Great everything with this band though.
Awesome sound and performance! Terrible video...it kept distracting me from the music
